How important or exciting is Homecoming weekend for yOU? Myself, it's up there pretty darn high, and gets marked on the calendar the very moment I know the exact dates. (yes, I know, it's often this second Saturday anymore, but it wasn't always that way)

I've missed but two Homecoming's since graduation, and hosted a psuedo-Homecoming in 2020 at my home since there wasn't one in Athens.

Happy Homecoming week y'all!

I absolutely love it and hate that my kids' activities have ruined probably about 7 of the last 10 for me. This year it falls right on my daughter's birthday, and she very lamely doesn't want to spend it in Athens.

The forecast is about 7 degrees cooler than it was first projected when it first showed up in a 10 day forecast. Rain is looking more likely in the morning. It literally might rain on OUr parade. Rain is still not that likely in the later afternoon for the game.

Damn 3:30 kick time. Everybody loves to get soaked while watching a homecoming game...can't we lobby for 2pm.

And for the record, I hate tOSU, and Ricordati and Torgerson are DB's.

not that forecasts are law, and still a few days for things to change, but the rain should be mostly gone by the afternoon.

I have a love-hate relationship with homecoming. The events and energy are fun but the subsequent crowds and difficulty and expense of enjoying in are not. Paying Four Seasons prices to stay at the Super 8 in Athens - if you're lucky enough to find any room in any hotel - is simply not worth it. I've done it a few times and can't see ever doing it again.

Voted it third, but with 1 and 2 being Christmas and Thanksgiving (my birthday doesn’t really rank in my top 5)

Same. I haven't been back for Homecoming since 2009. I'm usually good for one game in town a year and find that there's usually a conference game with no added fanfare (no homecoming, parents weekend, band day) that is pretty easy going and even then, like the Kent game in 2019 I went to, the bars and restaurants uptown were still pretty slammed afterwards.

The Jackie O's in Columbus is opening up early in the morning and showing the OU homecoming festivities, parade, game, etc. Should be a pretty awesome alternative to Athens.

Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving and the 4th of July get the nod over Homecoming in Athens in my book but only because they have longer histories.

But really, is there a Homecoming anywhere in the USA that can top OUr’s when the leaves are turning the weather is clear and young and old 110 members come funking down the bricks?

I have seen grown men along the sidewalks with misty eyes as the alumni band puts on their moves. With my two now in their early 30’s marching and dancing it truly is a sight that I wish every person I know could witness at least once...

***For those who mostly left after halftime stay till after the game and hear the combined 110 and Alumni 110 play the standards of Ain't Been Good, Cheer, Light Up and Long Train Runnin.

Special note for jazz music lovers, there is an Alumni Jazz Jam in Glidden Recital Hall starting at 8PM on Saturday. The grads will be playing tunes like Buddy Rich's Norwegian Wood, Oye Como Va, and Moondance to name a few. Hope to see you there after a long day!

Homecoming is honestly pretty low, as I have yet to make it back to Athens for homecoming. But that's about to change this Saturday!

I never bitched about being at my kids activities. You will never regret the time spent. There will always be OU football but your kids will grow up and you will have awesome memories.

The parade is a good time with the 110 and the alumni band doing a bang up job. Look forward to that every year.

Rain is now not as likely in the morning as projected a few days. It is projected to be possible more toward the end of the game.

I've always taken them to homecoming when the schedule allows and love doing so. I wasn't saying I wanted to bail on their activities, just wish the schedule broke so we could do it all.

Last year or the year before they had a full show like the thanksgiving parade, it was a lot of fun.

Met an OU alum here in Seattle who said they hadn't been back to campus since graduating in 2005. They were originally from Indiana, so maybe the vibe is a little different for someone born and raised in Ohio that went to OU, but still I'm in the boat of wishing I could be around for more. The early-mid 20s right after graduating were my favorite homecomings. It's more about the atmosphere than anything, and I think about contacting my old housemates and neighbors about doing a homecoming rendezvous one of these years, but we'll see if that happens. I think the last one I went to was like 2016ish?

I wish I had attended more homecomings while I was still in Columbus. now that i'm out in eastern PA it's much more difficult to make travel arrangements than just a 90 minute drive down 33.

I think the last one I went to was 2016 or 17. I keep telling myself "next year" but life keeps happening and the vacation days are prioritized elsewhere.

Most of the time, I complain about how "married" Ohio Athletics is to 2pm, especially for Homecoming and other big games. This time around, it would have been nice to have that 2pm with how the weather turned out.

Your comment highlights why I've change my thoughts on how I spend OU football games on Homecoming Saturday. My new move will be to arrive in the middle of 2Q and stay through the end. Homecoming weekend, at least for me, the football game is secondary to all of the other socialization and festivities, particularly the 110 Alumni's performances.

(Note, I'm a guy who is no longer willing to sit in Peden or any other football stadium for 4-5 hours)

There are several reasons for college football games lasting too long.

Here are a couple of ways to cut minutes off the game time: cutting the 20-minute halftime used in CFB to 12 minutes used in NFL; don't automatically call an official timeout every time a player goes down. Too many times a player is hurt on the ground after a play and the official(s) call a media timeout. Only to have that player up and on the sideline within seconds. No need to go to a commercial break.

Seeing the success of the pitch clock in baseball got me thinking is there something comparable to be done in Football. The down time is out of hand.

The one idea I had was basically mandate no huddle / no substitution unless there is a 1st down. Something like a 20 second play clock and keep the game clock running (even after incompletions) until there is a 1st down or change of possession. Change the game to make a set of downs be sort of like an at bat, and the 1st down or change of possession is when teams take a breath and come up with their approach and lineup for the next set.

I know it is crazy, I know it will never happen. All I know is the slow nonchalant moseying around talking after every single play is boring.

aside from an incomplete pass the clock doesn't stop outside 2 min of each half. And it's :40 from snap to snap basically, unless there is an administrative stoppage and then it's :25. The average team runs 66.7 plays per game right now, down from 68.7 last year.
