My guesses:

RB: Hunt/Quinn share the carries, but someone else might get a carry or two (McCormick/Hunter/Wilson)
QB: Navarro is the obvious starter, followed by Winters/Wither.
WR: Starting Hendricks, Wilburn, and Wiglusz, followed by R. Harris/Debrow

Isn’t Wiglusz out of eligibility after this season? I thought he came to Ohio with two years of eligibility.

I believe he is out of eligibilty, but the whole covid thing has muddied the water, and I don't understand who has eligibility and who doesn't. I didn't expect Allison to have any, for example, but apparently he does. The question was what the depth chart would look like for the bowl game, not for Spring. I can't think of any reason Wiglusz wouldn't play in the bowl.

LC, I may be wrong, but I think Allison had the ability to file for a medical waiver for one of his past injuries.

Below is Wiglusz's timeline. He redshirted in 2018 and the Covid year was in 2020, so those don't count. Unless he was injured and out for the year in 2019 or 2021 at OSU, I haven't seen any indication of a possible medical hardship ruling from back then. In September of 2022 there was an article on him in The Post that said, "Despite Ohio being in the back of his head, Wiglusz didn’t always know he wanted to transfer there for his final two years of eligibility." From all of this info, it looks like his college career is over.

23 11 game at OU
22 11 games at OU
21 5 games at OSU
20 1 game at OSU (Covid year)
19 3 games at OSU
18 Redshirt at OSU

I just noticed this was in reference to the bowl game, not next season. My bad.

Interestingly enough, the coaches mentioned back in the preseason that one of the major reasons Ohio was able to sign Ricky Hunt was BECAUSE of the transfer portal. They talked about how a kid this highly rated would have been otherwise scooped up by a P5 school, but because of the amount of activity in the portal, guys like Hunt actually tricked down into the G5. They also said the same thing about WR Chase Hendricks. They said that both guys had P5 offers but the playing field to sign them was leveled out because of the activity/uncertainty of the P5 schools offering them. That said, when you land a kid that you may have overstretched yourself to get like these guys, you also run the risk of losing them down the road to the portal for the same reasons you were able to get them in the first place. Basically, when a kid signs with a school nowadays, it's like a placeholder. About half of them will use it as a stepping stone, the other half will stay put. You can almost bet that about half the guys that sign in a class on signing day won't be around at the school that signed them 4-5 years later.

That is very true. Nationwide, many HS coaches are very unhappy with the Portal, because it is taking opportunities from some players. College coaches in today's world would rather have someone ready to play today and that someone else has already developed.

I sat with a DII baseball coach two summers ago at one of my son's travel tournaments. I asked him if he was there recruiting any of the high school-age players. He told me he there only because the games were being played at his college but he was leaving as soon as possible to go to college summer showcases and look at college players. He said he had little interest any more in high school players and was spending his time and energy on college players in the portal.

Interesting. This may be it, exactly. A school like Ohio may get better recruits than in the past due to the portal, but then lose the best of them to the P5 via the portal. Similarly, the FCS schools may also be getting better recruits, but losing the best of them to the G5 via the portal. It's just a new world, and it will take awhile to sort itself out. It will be interesting to see what the new world ends up looking like when it is all done.

It's not the end of the world. It's the start of something new. We may like it. We may not. The danger for the sport in general is that, in a world where players have no loyalty to a team, will fans continue to have loyalty to a team? Will fans all pony up funds to support NIL? Or will they turn away and find some other pastime? College football has changed a lot over the last 150 years, and will continue to change. I have no predictions about it's future, but I do personally wonder why what are essentially professional sports teams are tied to purportedly non-profit institutions of learning? Other than historical origin, it makes no real sense to me.

This has been my take on this from the beginning. There's something to be said for familiarity as a fan. It's easier to make a loyalty investment in a college team when the roster makes a total overhaul every 4/5 years, not practically every 1/2 years.

If the team is competitive, the fans will show up.

In basketball, the blue bloods have had 1 and done guys cycling on and off the roster for 15 years now. Doesn't seem to have put a dent in fan interest.

You know this is true for all fans? Or as you like to post, I'm not clear what you're trying to say.

I feel the same way. There's been so many changes with football in the past five years. The transfer portal, the NIL, conference realignment, the redshirt rule, etc. The bottom line is - this is NOT the sport I feel in love with. Not even close.

I’m not sure that a team which has historically been at the bottom of a 16-18 team conference is ever going to be competitive year in and year out. Think Vanderbilt or Indiana, etc. I don’t know how you keep their fan base energized.

OhioBobcat, amen, I agree, 100%! should I continue to buy season tickets and drive three hours each way on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in the fall to watch this kind of stuff?

Vanderbilt football no longer has a fanbase to speak of. When they lost that close bowl game to Baylor in Houston (2018) was the beginning of the end of having a decent fan base. People were very crushed at that loss, especially on the heels of them destroying Tennessee 38-13 which brought a big contingent of their fans to Houston.

I think his numbers, this year, in the MAC, may be a clue. Unless he wants to transfer down.

So you think because his numbers are down that he somehow has become a worse runner? I really don’t think his numbers tell the whole story. Still some time to see where he ends up.

We'll see. Huge number of RBs in the portal. I started counting, then decided to move on with my life (there are that many). I agree that much of his reduced production is due to lack of OL run blocking production. Question is, does a "transfer up" school take a chance on him given his numbers and the sheer number of choices available.

11 carries for 82 yards and 3 TD. (6 min left)

He might've gotten 200 with 20 carries. :)
