So, no scrimmage? Anyone know why?

Isn't that far and away the best way to get guy's experience outside of an actual game?....espec at qb.

I heard lack of bodies that are healthy in certain position groups. I'm eager to see a roster. Hopefully that is up soon.

I'd be interested to see how many other programs don't hold spring games because of that issue or other reasons.

I'm guessing around zero scrap spring games but I have no idea I basically only follow one program.

in previous years the spring game has been nothing more than a scrimmage due to injuries or other precautions. Are they saying it simply won't be a game, or are they saying that the event simply won't exist? I assume there will be an open scrimmage on equipment sale day (?)

I'm assuming the practice could feature some scrimmage elements. I'm looking forward to braking down the roster.

My understanding is their will be scrimmage sessions in various practices, but they will be even less formal than in past years.

It's been two months since our last game so why would injuries be a factor?

Injuries are always a factor with this program. In season, off-season, spring game, etc. . .

I think this is part of the overall trend in football towards less contact. I have no idea how many schools are scrapping the traditional Spring game, but I'd be very surprised if Ohio is the only one. I think most that don't have a Spring game do still have a scrimmage like what Ohio has had in recent years.

Probably none of the "P" schools will scrap their spring game because (A) they get 50,000+ to show up for it and (B) they have a contract with ESPN.

There basically no freshmen on hand for spring practices, so that leaves teams with 15 or so less guys to begin with. Plus a lot of guys have surgeries that have been putting off during the season as they play through an injury.

Nebraska scrapped it entirely in 2012 under Bo Pelini due to weather, and didn't bother to reschedule it.

Miami thought about scrapping it in 2016, but in the end had one.

Vanderbilt won't be having one this year.

While it varies from year to year, I think you are spot on. I think the staff has been so snake bitten by injuries that they are doing as much as they can to eliminate the possibility of them. I'm not so sure that having a "real game" helps the players or staff all that much, but we'll never know.

Hmm...This smacks a bit of cancelling Casual Friday because one or two people are abusing it...instead of getting the abusers to dress a bit better.

We're giving up the most game equivalent experience we can get for a team that lost a lot and is young (secondary) on defense and is seriously unproven at qb and receiver?

I'm not saying that injuries aren't a concern. But isn't there some better solution that cancelling the whole thing?

What is our injury history during the spring scrimmage? Have many guys actually been injured? How seriously?

aside to OCF...the latter questions are aimed at eliciting facts. pm me and i'll explain what facts are.

What worries me is not your gathering of facts. You can be pretty good at that. It's your interpretation of those facts and your selective use of facts to support whatever preconceived notion you have on a particular topic.

I believe that you've often stated that I ignore facts...so your recognition that I'm all about the facts is progress.

I do try to fit facts to theories. That seems a good way for anyone to proceed.

But I disagree that I have 'preconceived notions.' Instead, I aim to draw the logical conclusions from the most salient facts.

Plus the conce$$ion $tand$, $pirit wear $tand and numerous other$. In all seriousness though I do know of many P5 fans who simply don't have the dough to pay to get tickets for any of the meaningful games (let alone bring along a family of 3-5 people who are also big fans) so this gives them a chance for a gameday experience without breaking the bank. A lot of programs offer some nice opportunities for young fans to get onto the field, meet players, get autographs etc. that they don't have during the regular season. I know smaller programs do this too.

Sano doesn't do anything with the football team anymore, does he? I thought I read that Dak Notestine was in charge of exercise and conditioning for football.

This team needs to practice tackling and blocking, so they need to have some full contact practices.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes
