Anybody worried about the fact that we have forced 0 fumbles in the first 4 games and have just 4 INT with 3 of them being by one guy in one game? I know we got the first blocked punt in 4 years today but it seems to me we need to force a lot more turnovers now that MAC play is beginning. Could it be the emphasis this year is on tackling rather than stripping the ball? Just looking for thoughts...

I'm more concerned about the turnovers we're giving up than the turnovers we're not creating.

Casper, I think you nailed it. I think that the emphasis is on tackling, which I think is much better than in prior years. Personally, I like it. I hate seeing a guy going for a strip, and then missing a tackle in the process. Think about the silly effort the EIU guy made, trying to strip AJ at the end of his long run. I'll take more stops and a few less turnovers. I still think that we'll see some balls on the ground before the year is over. Part of it is luck, too.

B-I-N-G-O! Couldn't agree more. For Ohio to have any shot of winning the MAC East this year Ohio must be on the plus side of the turnover margin. Of course, with this team's youth/inexperience on offense that will be hard to do.

So far the D has responded well when we turn it over. EIU scored a TD off the first INT, which makes 14 points that we've given up off nine turnovers this season. That's a VERY good result. You're going to have turnovers with a young team, so it's up to the D to make sure they don't hurt much. As for takeaways, Solich mentioned a couple weeks ago that he'd like to see the D go for the ball more. Not necessarily the first guy in, but certainly the second and third.

The bottom line is this is a young team. I just hope they continue to improve down the line.
