Wow...Can we EVER catch a break?

As hard as it is for someone who despises A&M as much as I do to admit, Monroe hit the nail on the head.  The priority must be getting healthy for MAC play even if it means bowing to the red and pewter as well as the Thundering Terd.

They'll have to chain Noah to the bench but it's gotta be done.  The tailgate hasn't even begun and already the day's successes will be counted by pulling for a healthy outcome; beating the spread by double digits; getting under A&M fan's skins with the UUUUUUUUUUUUUU chant addition and hoping for a pic or two off of those crisp intermediate throws Pryor's quickly becoming so famous for.

Help me Obi 9...Help me...You're our only hope...

You know, that's all I really want, to get under the skin of osu fans. I've got a confession: I spent three years going to school there (only because OU doesn't have a law school, and as soon as the press release for the Art Marinelli College of Law is put out there, I will send in my donation check). I went to football games there, primarily because I am a fan of college football, and that's what Saturdays in the fall are for. Nothing irritated me more than their damn alma mater, refering to "O-HI-O" at the end, with their stupid hand signals. Everytime I heard that, including at my graduation, I said loud enough so that everyone around me could hear, "This isn't Ohio. That's an hour and a half to the southeast."

Even the suggestion that osu is not the best at any particular thing will drive them crazy. In 2008, I almost got into a fight with a 12 year old and his drunken toothless hillbilly father just for cheering for OU. The 12 year old taps on the shoulder and says, "Well if OU is so good, how many national championships have you won?" "None, but we've never been embarrased by an SEC team in a national championship game either." Then the dad chips in, "There you go. No national championships." My reply: "Well, we've won multiple national championships in having fun. How many of those have you guys won?" Then Beokman fumbled in the endzone and they were quiet until 14 to go in the 4th.

The U is perfect, because they have no answer. It confuses them. "Wait, they changed our chant! That's not right! Let's try it again and see if they do it again! OH MAN THEY DID!!!!" They can't help themselves, they have to say "OH-IO". They can't bring themselves to say "State" at the end, even though that's who they are. But we make them change. Because WE are OHIO.

God, I was completely despondent after Saturday. I'm ready to go again now, though. Thank you for reminding me how much I love to hate those people, and how my goal isn't necessarily to win this game, but to just make them shut up for a while. About anything.

Also, we need to take away the middle of the field on Pryor's passes. Make him throw short and out. IMO, Julian Posey has been the best looking player on our team. Make Pryor throw the out route, and he will get a pick 6. And if this happens in the first quarter, we will get our desired silence from the red crowd.

Not that I don't enjoy the O-H-I-O-U... but what if instead we just countered in a moment of silence with "18-04" after "OH-IO"

Yeah, probably sticking w/ 'U' after O-H-I-O. Back to the drawing board with your idea.

Holy Hell...If Keller is out (and others on defense)...This could get ugly.  The offense just looked SOOO terrible last week, and if we're missing our defensive leader it could get ugly on that side of the ball too.  I hate OSU, but I'd put money on OSU covering.

I'm kind of the opposite of several on this board.  I graduated from Ohio State, but hold little loyalty to the university itself.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed my years there, but I've seen the school dramatically raise tuition while they spend money like a drunken sailor.  I've also had a lot of classes where I thought the professors were biased as could be.  In the end, I support the sports programs completely though.  It's not because of any love for the university itself, but because, to me, state pride is a really important and Ohio State football is a great outlet for it.  Theoretically any Ohio university could do (and I do route for most, most of the time), but practically speaking, Ohio State, with it's emphasis on Ohio and it's success, was the easiest to turn my attention to.

I think one thing that is interesting in all routing discussions (whether they be college, pro, etc) is the ultimate reasons people choose to route for certain teams.  A bit for just about everyone is bandwagonness.  Almost no one would choose to route for a team that literally went a decade without winning a single game (there has to be some hope), but the higher profile, the bigger effect by a considerable degree.  With that said, there are a lot of bandwagons to jump onto and why some teams are more successful at it than others is also interesting (Miami of Florida for instance has very limited fan following in the city when they aren't successful while Nebraska would be selling out game 12 even if they were 0-11) and reveal different underlying reasons people route for teams.

I think college football is really interesting (and better than the NFL) because people choose their favorite team for a ton of reasons.  Routing for my alma mater, because it's my alma mater, means little to me, but it means everything to a lot of people and I can appreciate that's special.  Rooting for a Catholic university means little to me (even though I'm a dedicated Catholic), but I can appreciate it means everything to some people.  Similarly others choose the nearest big program, others choose to follow a program which isn't getting enough attention or the most local one period.  When we get down to it, none of the reasons are better than worse than any others, but they do make college football a sport like no other.

On to the game:  Good luck guys.  While I can't say I'll be routing for you in the Shoe, I hope I can hear the U added to the end of O-H-I-O (I was there last time and did even though I was on the other end from most Bobcat fans).  I loved your upset of Georgetown in the NCAA tournament last year, loved your campus the one time I was down there (for the OU American History Test back in high school) and hope you guys have a great year.

OK, I'll bite: Why does Ohio State football emphasize "Ohio" more than Ohio, Cincinnati, BG, Toledo, Kent, Akron, Miami, Denison, Ohio Wesleyan, Ohio Northern, etc?

Not saying your wrong from your perspective, but empirically speaking, I just don't see it.

I wish I had read this before my last post.  TS, thanks so much for posting this, as I think is does an amazing job of explaining this old timer's, and other's here, perspective on the issue that has dominated this board for the last ten days.  It probably deserves it's own thread.

Like the Love, my greatest disappointment that fuels my frustration is the pipeline of cash that flows out of "OHIO-ans" pockets into the coffers up state, perpetuating the legislated competitive disadvantage that Ohio has experienced.

It just makes me sad that more student's and alums don't feel the sense of unity and connection to the University that I do, as they choose not to do something that is compeltely in their power to give back and support our alma mater.

Many of the dual campers have said that they owe nothing to the University; that their choice of University is nothing more than a contract that once completed, provides mutual benefit, and after completion of your degree you are free to wash your hands.  And you know what, you're right.

That is 100% your choice, but don't ask those of us that feel differently to respect that.  Doesn't mean we dislike you as a person, just means we don't respect your position on this matter.

I find it hilarious how tight some people's (plural of an anatomically correct word that I'm sure Wes would have a problem with, so use your imagination) tense up when OSU is the subject. We act like being a green and white fan is a secret club that you need to be initiated into and follow all of the intricate rules or you risk expulsion.

Going through this and the previous threads on the matter, I don't even understand what Ozcat said that drew so much wrath... That he went to OU, is rooting for OU, but also lives in Columbus, likes Ohio State too, and thinks they'll win, even though he's rooting for OU next weekend, though he does admittedly attend OSU games and root for OSU on other weekends? Good god, blasphemy!

They're the #2 team in the country people. It would be an upset of epic proportions if they lost to any MAC school, especially at home. Sure we all know this, but the race to identify and slap a scarlet letter (see what I did there?) on the OSU sympathizer is just too urgent.

So thanks for playing Ozcat. You can turn in your OU fandom at the end of this thread, because even though we're constantly trying to figure out how to get more students to games, or alums to come back to Peden regularly, you're not allowed in any more if you root for OSU... or if you like them at all, even just a little bit... or if just once you were watching ESPN highlights, an OSU player did something and you said that it was a good play... or even if you *thought* it was a good play. Oh, but please don't forget to make your annual donation to the Ohio Bobcat Club. Can someone shoot him a link for that please?

Uh oh...rationale thinking on the topic. Revolt!

People cheer for Ohio State. I live in friggin' Chicago where it's every man, woman, and Big Ten fan for him/herself. You guys talk about Columbus as some center of urban demoralization. Come to Chicago...it's a Michigan State, Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin (not to mention ND) love fest.

I'm so sick of Iowa fans around here!

What I'm saying is that your complaints are universal. Big deal...people like Ohio State and Ohio. Ohio hasn't realyl done much to make themselves a viable first option to a lot of people and the people on this board sure haven't made it a real great place to be because you chew off their heads before they walk in the door.

I think Mayor Quimby said it best; "Is this mob getting louder or dumber?"

Oh...and someone remembers their High School Junior English class!

Just curious, are Iowa fans posting the superior virtues of Iowa football weekly on the ND/Michigan/Michigan State/Wisconsin/Iowa State blogs?  Are Michiganders weekly posting the virtues of Wolverine football on Bucknuts?  Are they starting threads that are obviously related to their preferred school on other schools boards?

I lived in Chicago for 7 years right after OU...Wrigleyville, Lincoln Park, and the Gold Coast...so I'm qualified to comment here...

The Big 10 mish-mash that makes up Chicago is not 1/100th as annoying as the animals in Columbus that get behind Ohio State. Unless you stumble into Jack Sullivans on a Fall Saturday, you can pretty much turn off anything related to college athletics that you don't want to deal with. The annoying Cubs and Bears are a different story, but the Big 10 is completely harmless there.

Random Bullets:

1. Most annoying while living in Chicago = Ohio State fans (some things never change)
2. 2nd Most annoying = Iowa Fans...but they are about 1/10 as annoying
3. Mich State, Wisco, NWU, Purdue, PSU, etc = all good people. Never have a bad word to say about any of those people.
4. Illinois people might be slightly annoying, but only b/c they are homers there.

Trust me Medler...you don't have it that bad. Try living in Columbus for 1 day in the fall and you'll want to blow your brains out. It's the most nauseating, disgusting phenomenon to co-exist with these idiots.

No one said I have it bad...in fact, I have it pretty good.

However, I don't need Autumn Saturdays in Columbus to remind me that Columbus is (to borrow someone else's description) "basically a giant Hoolihan's with the roof cut off."

There are a lot of reasons why I don't live in Columbus and most of them have NOTHING to do with Ohio State football. And the reasons that do are based loosely on the idea that 50 year old men should not be wearing the jersey of an 19 year old.

My rankings 2010 for Chicago's annoying fan base:
1. Iowa. Clearly the winner this fall. Those bastards have 25 "Official Bars".
2. Michigan State. Some thing never get old. ND is next on the schedule and they're starting to make noise.
3. Notre Dame: Trust me, if they hadn't been embarrassed last weekend by Meeechigan, they'd be annoying as all heck this week.
4. Ohio State. Honestly, it's not as bad as it could be. Ohio Staters are basically from another planet and most people accept this. Plus, I don't think it's that big of a deal because...well...most of us kinda accept that we'd be a big d!ck if we won all the time, too. (This phrase does not apply to Chicago professional sports' fans...we're d!cks no matter the season.)
5. Nebraska. Really? Nebraska football is life? I wouldn't have guessed it with the foot long Nebraska ear rings you got there.

Just as surely as 27 is NOT 30 (a fact I'm far more convinced of now than I was at graduation in 2005), 44 is NOT 50, therefore Brazil jersey is OK (for the record, if its in hunter green, its almost always age appropriate)
