Not a lot of talent out there in green and white that can compete in this league. This has been well established. Everyone knows this isn't going to be a quick fix. The new coach is walking into a dumpster fire and he's probably going to have I guess discussions with 5 players minimum about transferring out. Too many bodies in uniform that aren't MAC talent caliber. Recruiting has gone sideways and new coach has a total rebuild on his hands thanks to this five year mess left behind.

Give it a rest! Geez. Bad year this year, yes!! But we lost Dartis and Gollon, no small loss. You can hate Saul all you want. He was without Campbell a year, Carter a year and yet had a 23 win season followed by 20 wins. Go on hating ....

Better yet go drool over Groce some more.

The only years we were good were the 2 when Jaaron was here.

You are correct sir. Indelible in the hippocampus is Scott Tedder gouging us with 50 points (!).

Nothing against Dartis ... but would this team really be that much better?

He's a nice player, but Ohio is 3-8 in the MAC and could very well end up 3-15.

With Dartis ... what are they ... 6-12?

Ohio has 3 wins vs two of the worst teams in the league.

Their 8 losses are by an average of 14+ points per game.

I'm sorry. This is just not a very talented team. Period.

Mid70sbobcat------Please remember that Solich experienced many years with injury issues and still managed to have winning seasons.

A potential issue is that most of the guys on the roster have already used their redshirt years and/or spent time in JUCO, so that's going to weigh in on a lot of the decision making. Do they leave Ohio and lose another year to play elsewhere? Or are they shown the door...since scholarships are basically year-to-year renewals? I can't see that happening though.

And then a lot of that depends on if there is any new NCAA reform allowing players to leave and be immediately eligible after a coaching change.

I know people don't want to hear this, but the roster probably isn't going to change that much.

I honestly think a full year of a 100% healthy Dartis and Gollon changes this team a lot. As GoCats said elsewhere, not competing with UB or Toledo good, but absolutely better than what we're seeing now, and probably closer to the .500 mark. The two of them are guards that can actually make shots, which is very clearly the A-number one thing that is lacking right now - shot makers.

The continued statements, not just by you, of a "five year mess", are ignorant, and ridiculous. The whole five years haven't been a mess. Your saying it twice a week doesn't make it so.

The quick fix-ability of the situation is obviously largely dependent on who stays, and who goes, and if the new staff could convince McDay to stay. There are pieces there that are decent to good, but they don't fit with what they're trying to do now. More than anything else, this team direly needs a couple guards (like Dartis and Gollon) that can knock down open shots.

A new staff may not want McDay and Wight has no other options. In most cases, new coaches are able to retain recruits and players. If we stick with Saul it should be because we believe that he can win.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

Wait just a darn minute. There were people on here who double-dog guaranteed that Saul doesn't recruit scrubs. They insisted the lightly recruited players he had signed were highly qualified major d-1 talented athletes. A few even posted what amounted to hissy-fits to show they really meant it.

Based on that, a person might doubt your analysis of another MAC team having better athletes and hoops talent on their roster. Other than Buffalo.

Another strawman punched out. Did anyone actually say he was a Dave Jamerson? So what? He's a darn good player. Perhaps, next to the dearly departed Dartis, our best three-point shooter. Also, the best foul shooter on our team. To imply that the team wouldn't be remarkable better with him in the lineup is disingenuous.

In 58 games he is a career 4.6ppg scorer. Not sure where the love affair is, or the belief in production is. Most of his points were as a set shooter off of reversals and kick outs. If he was a scoring threat, could he get his shot off? At the end of the day, he's not even Rick Scarberry, who was a great CAT, but a limited player.

Yeah his PPG is low because he wasn't shooting that much earlier in his career. Towards the end of 2018 once he was finally fully in the rotation he was averaging almost 10ppg, which is a pretty solid contribution off the bench.

But his shooting percentages (almost 40% from 3 and 80+% from the FT line) would be the difference maker and that's the point. We don't have any nearly as prolific as Jimmy G...and not even within shout of Jordy.

And in reality, I think we need about 4ppg off the bench. At this point we need all the help we can get right?

So, we would be battling for an at-large bid or a serious MAC contender? Again, the 4-5th option often has good shooting percentages, but if given attention can he create his own shot? Can he get the shots the team needs? he's also a negative in the Assist:Turnover ratio. Bottom line, he has 185 FGA in his career. How anyone can take that as a sign that he's the savior of anything is beyond me. Now, does he play hard? sure does, but so does all the other young men on this roster. Effort is NOT our problem. Heck, this is a decent defensive team, but the offense is a real issue, and saying a 4.6ppg scorer is the missing link is just puzzling.

Remember his production is such a small sample size this year, 7 games, 10mpg, and so few shots, and he missed a dozen games before he even hit the floor with fresh legs. to think that production would carry on through an entire season and rest of his career would put in the category of an NCAA leader. Sorry, not happening.

I mean I guess it can't get much worse than where we are right? Nobody is saying Jimmy G is the ultimate answer. But having your two best shooters (percentage wise) on the bench in street clothes makes Ohio a lot worse than they could be.

I blame it all on Roar til 1804. All of it.

At least we're not standing for defense any longer.

We were chuckling about that last night in a giddy mood with the 12-0 start, those who might have chosen to actually stand for defense would have been up for 15-20 minutes. Last night it coulda been a Brazilian Roar for 1404. Imagine standing for that portion of the game and then sitting down and enduring the rest . . . maybe standing back up for the last 1:04?

Now we need to answer 2 questions: who will leave when Saul leaves? And do would it truly hurt us for any specific guy to leave?

Period.

Love Jimmy G, but I think people are overestimating this a bit. Yes, he's an improvement to what we have from the outside right now...but come on...he's not Dave Jamerson.

Do you consciously try to make an ass of yourself with every post?
