The head coach at N. Ky makes about $300,000 according to his last salary and Pedon as an asst. in Columbus is making at least $400,000. Some Bobcat attackers think that Ohio's AD will not pay more than $400,000 for the next coach.

All I know is this ...
When this season is over, whomever OHIO hires to be the next head coach of the men's basketball team better be able to recruit in-state / in-region VERY WELL.

There obviously are various mid-major conferences, but I don't know of any that has six of its schools located in a state as small geographically as Ohio. When you factor in Ohio St., Xavier, UC, Dayton, Wright St., etc., there are lots of options for high school players who want to stay in Ohio. Ohio and it's surrounding area have lots of schools, and the Bobcats' next coach has got to find a way to succeed in out-recruiting most of them.

Saul had no ties to the state, no recruiting history in the state, and the talent level on the team shows he has not been as successful recruiting as he needed to be to compete in the MAC. RECRUITING is the key to winning in the MAC consistently!

I think we all agree with need a quick influx of MAC level talent, because we can't afford to wait three years for someone to build a program. Therefore, wouldn't it make sense to get a coach who coaches Div I but also has a JUCO stint or stints on his resume, or has shown the ability to get good transfers who might be eligible immediately? Someone like Steve Forbes at East Tennessee State? Not sure what his salary is there. But we also need someone who can work within the academic admissions constraints.

While I would be cool with Geno, some rumor mills are saying it's this guy:

Ryan Pedon

2017 – Ohio State, Assistant Coach
2015-17 – Butler University, Assistant Coach
2013-15 – Illinois, Assistant to the Head Coach
2010-13 – Toledo, Assistant Coach
2005-10 – Miami (Ohio), Assistant Coach
2002-05 – Kent State, Director of Basketball Operations
2000-02 – Miami (Ohio), Graduate Assistant

I think Buckeye to Bobcat is on to this possible hire. As you said, he will need every bit of $600K to come to Athens.

I'm just not sold on Pedon. Yes we had success with Groce as an assistant from OSU. But when he was lead assistant OSU was coming off of back-to-back seasons as a 2 seed then a 1 seed. OSU is on track to be a 10 seed this year. That doesn't impress me as much.

If we are going the assistant direction I'd rather go with Dane Fife from MSU or Luke Murray from Louisville.

Bobcat Love giving it to Arkley on Twitter right now. Love not liking the sass being delivered. Arkley doing everything he can to defend.. refuses to talk realities.

I used to have a digital subscription to the Mess just to read Arkley. No more. He's done a horrible job on this beat.

Disagree, I think that Pitino is a brilliant idea to help bring some instant life into a program that is now at the bottom of the MAC.

I would like to win ethically, thank you very much.

Brannen and Otzelberger recently received extensions at their current schools. Not sure if there would need to be a buyout.

I'd be cool with Murray or Fife.

Last I read from you, OCF, was that you felt Saul deserved a contract renewal.

Right?

I wanted to put Fife on my list. The problem I had with him is his time at IPFW (excuse me, PFW) that was a real gradual build. Took him 6 years to get to 18 wins a year. But that's just me. Has a lot of regional contacts and could definitely be a play if they go after him.

No, I didn't say that. I did say awhile back that I wasn't sure if there might have been a silent extension of the contract. That was before the Post did an FOIA request.

Maybe Vern Alden will pony up the money to buy a high-profile coach? You are a good personal friend, right? Why not ask him. We'd all be in your debt!

No, I agree with Shabammon on Pitno, thought that was pretty clear since I was replying to his post. But I guess I needed an age disclaimer on my post.

I think the depth of his sleaze has been documented over...and over...and over again. The sleaze and his basketball acumen are the two known commodities in this discussion. However, what do you think college basketball and the fable of amateurism is built on these days?

You sir, are the idiot.

I take pride in knowing we are one of like 15 schools in the country to never have been hit with a major NCAA violation. I hope we can keep that going

Wow!!!! How the hell do you get out of that that I would want Pitno. Let’s walk through this, it’s really not tough.

BLove going at it with Arkley on Twitter, in this BLove mentions Pitino. Shabmon states he was with BLove up until he mentioned Pitino. I agreed with Shabmon that Pitino was a no go to us. However, that simple story line is too hard for you to handle since I’ve had to explain this now 3 times.
