The look of dejection on the kids' faces left an impression on me. It was rainy and gross outside and they walked all the way to the Convo to the game only to be told "no, you have to walk back down the ramp, around, then back up." They don't get to use the sidewalk that encircles the Convo doors.

While a small thing, I've seen that look before. The "are you serious with this crap?" look. And that's the kind of stuff that hurts this fan base. Those kids might never come back to a game again. It may not be because of that one thing, but that and other things added together? We're only hurting ourselves.

Then after the game, the ramps are barricaded (at least the one we walked down) so there is only one small opening on the ramp once you get out of the Convo? WHAT IS THAT? I'm pretty sure I learned that in Risk Management 101 taught by Dr. Higgins. You leave as many exits as wide open as possible for egress in case of an emergency.

Maybe they have legitimate reasons for these things and maybe they can explain them to me in a way that makes sense. But I don't see it.

Every time I complain about "Game Day Experience", and it has been often in the last 12-24 months, this is the A-number-1 thing that pisses me off. It's not customer friendly. AT. ALL. Seems to me there are plenty of ways to deploy security without barricading off the whole damn building except for those two doorways.

Perhaps we as fans should make an initiative to email, simultaneously, Schaus, President Nellis, and OUPD Chief Powers - to simply suggest they try alternatives.

For example, why not just deploy those yellow shirts outside the building at the ramps, and to keep people from "sneaking" in doors, including the Convo residence hall entry's? If this is a safety initiative, as I've complained before, why isn't this done for stand alone women's games, volleyball, or wrestling? And for those who often attend, is this nonsense done during high school tournament basketball?

Seconded. This is a great idea. It would be outstanding if someone could find some old video to include up on the shiny new board that shows the O Zone with Dan in it leading the cheers as well. Kind of a "show the current students" how great it once was, and how they could make it that way again in their own way.

But on the topic at hand, I agree with other's that it's definitely worth a shot, and it's good to see Dan's legacy back out there. I sure hope it resonates with this group, since there's been a decent gap that has developed since they last really talked about Dan, and anyone that ever knew him or really appreciated what he meant to the program has been gone for a solid 7-8 years now.

SBH hasn't done anything fast since running to the Jeff dining hall his freshman year. I'm thinking he meant Athens police.

Very glad they are remembering Dan in this way.

Can someone explain why the powers that be moved the band into the Ozone? I'm behind the times, but I never heard the rationale behind this decision.

IMO the added floor seating in front of the Ozone has diminished the enthusiasm in the student section... One of the many potential inhibitors.

Ultimately, if we win games, the Ozone will come back. It is tough to grow it organically without wins.

You don't have to outrun the bear...just the other guy.

Story was that Groce went on the road somewhere (can't remember the location), and they struggled with communication on the bench as the home band was blaring right at them. He then came back with the idea of placing the 110 across from the visiting bench, and the rest is history.

The 110 move coincided with the beginnings of the end of the Ozone. It was starting to thin out and impress much less...much like my hair these days. I personally thought they did it to give it a boost and fill in some bare spots.

If you have a good student crowd and a rocking 110, the atmosphere is outstanding. Problem is, the last couple years the students have been non-existent for most games. I feel like that hurts the general energy of the 110 too.
