I'm pretty sure it's the wild west when it comes to attendance and has been for a long time.

I know Bob Knight INSISTED that Texas Tech count actual butts in seats for his men's games. He didn't like inflated attendance figures.

I think every school does it their own way. If the NCAA actually policed the attendance in the MAC...you'd have a lot of teams that fail to reach the minimum average. I'm confident to say Miami probably hasn't had a TRUE 10k crowd in years. Same with EMU before this season.

It's a joke how some of these schools claim 15-20k averages when it's pretty damn obvious when you flip on TV that it looks like a JV girls soccer crowd

I just don't get why it's worth getting upset about, unless they're just manufacturing numbers. If they're counting tickets sold, so be it.

Not upset. It's honestly just another FAIL by the NCAA when it comes to enforcing their rules. Why institute a minimum attendance requirement and then allow schools to fudge numbers. Don't even make the rule then. It's just dumb....like most of what the NCAA does with college football.

I would actually be disappointed if WMU doesn't beat us in attendance this year. If you have a top 25 ranked team you best be selling out your games or you are never gonna get the fan support you need or want.

No way in H-E double hockey sticks are Miami and EMU averaging 18.5 and 17K.

Weekday MACtion? What do you want, national visibility, or visibility only from inside Peden? Are the 10k butts worth more than the 100k eyes? No.

This day in age, MAC doesn't need to play on weeknights to get exposure....especially the better teams.

Ohio was on national TV vs. Texas State.

There are at least two national TV MAC games every Saturday.

So yes....selfishly, as a season-ticket holder, I'd rather have a Saturday game.

If Ohio is good....they'll be on national TV (CBSN, ASN, etc.)

Miami, Kent, EMU all are not good....so no national TV for you unless you want to play midweek....which shouldn't matter cause their attendance is awful no matter what.

The only reason MAC plays midweek games is cause ESPN back up a Brinks truck and dumps a ton of cash at them.

MAC should stand up and demand that some of their marquee teams in November play on Saturday....and on national TV.

No reason CBSN or ASN wouldn't televise nationally ranked WMU or Toledo or NIU or even Ohio on a Saturday in November.

I understand ESPN won't because of their other conference affiliations.

One home game in November on a weeknight is fine. But for both of them to be selfishly sucks.

For the 5,000 or so people whose attendance would be swayed by playing on a weeknight, it does stink. For the 25,000 Bobcat fans who can't make games no matter when they are played its great! For the university, trading the butts in seats for eyes on screen is great.

It is not only more loot, but a method of making the product more accessible to the younger alum/fan. I wish they would have done this when I was there. Out of the stadium at 9:30? Perfect time to hit Court St.

Estimates on the live audience last night? Was there an exodus after the halftime show?

What ton of cash? Has anyone seen the concrete bottom line dollars the conference or member schools get for this? (Resisting the urge to use show me the money.)

Paid number showed 17,113. My guess would be somewhere around 3/4 of that number as reality. Regardless, it was a solid turnout for what started as a rainy evening. By kickoff, it was a perfect night though.

Here's a link:

The deal is worth $670k a year to each school, significantly better than the money that goes to CUSA or the Sunbelt.

The benefit of the mid-week games on TV goes beyond the money, though. MAC recruiting dramatically improved immediately after the mid-week deal was announced, and we're seeing the effects now, with more MAC wins over P5 teams, and more MAC teams getting ranked.

That's where the focus on season ticket sales has paid off. Even your estimate of people actually in the seats of about 13,000 is good for a mid-week game, about twice what most of the other mid-week MACtion games have drawn.

I think the problem is that the Brink's truck analogy is that it's not a huge sum of money in terms of what it costs to run an FBS football program. Even in the MAC, the TV revenue pays about the average salary for one head coach.

I'm going to guess actual people there about 10000. Not a bad crowd all things considered. Student side: about two thirds left after halftime.

Crowd was decently engaged in the game at times.

How does playing a TV game on a Tuesday night make it better than playing a TV game on a Saturday night?

How does a Tuesday night make it more accessible than a Saturday night for an alum/fan?

You lost me on that analogy. I agree the TV aspect is great. I just think it's 2016 and there are many more outlets to be televised on weekends than there were 10 years ago.

I am all for getting as many eyes on OUr product...for fans/alum and recruits alike. But I just don't see how a TV game on a Tuesday night in in a half-empty stadium is more beneficial than a TV game on a Saturday in a 3/4-full stadium.

I wasn't there, so I can't comment on engagement of crowd or what it looked like first hand. But on TV, the crowd was pretty paltry. Wasn't a very good representation....

While it was certainly better than most midweek MAC crowds....it's still sad to think a 7-3 team on the brink of playing for a league title will NOT play in front of a packed stadium the rest of the year.......because the MAC forces their schools to play all mid-week games in November.

Because as it is now, the MAC will NEVER get on a major sports outlet on a Saturday night.

Simple, the MAC is NOT going to rate air time on a Saturday night.

Correction:

Student Side: about two thirds left after hat giveaway started with 10:00 left in Q3.
