Tony looks like he's aged about 15 years since he stepped foot on campus.

Here's a 17pg thread on a GaTech message board discussing their relationship with Russell-

That's a good thread. Lots of opines, hot air, wishful thinking and some good info. Best thing I found in there should rock the foundations of Vedder's house http://www.forbes.com/sites/carlybenjamin/2016/07/12/the-... Big money and long terms..... A and M is number 2 with a deal through 2033. Stunning.

Wonder if WKU is as enamoured of Russell as Ga Tech.....

Yeah, as Van eluded to, Under Armour is absolutely trying to turn Maryland into a athletic powerhouse. Facilities, uniforms, you name it.

That and the move to the Big 10 has really improved their situation financially.

I'm going to go out on a limb that Oregon gets its money from Nike is so many different ways that it's impossible to track it all. Like I bet Brady Hoke gets a black metallic membership card to La Perla Pizzeria.

That is funny considering his BSU roots and fellow coach Majerus' penchant for not having an abode, choosing to live in a hotel and have Greek's Pizza here in Muncie on Speed Dial and retainer.....

IN the GT thread I see some concern for Russell and the relationship....
"We have less than 24 months until the switch over to something. There's no indication out there that we're staying with Russell. I don't think the GT connections are as strong as they were (given Russell is now owned by Berkshire Hathaway), I don't think they'd pay us as much as Nike, UA, etc. (payment in $$$ & gear combined), I also read somewhere that maybe they don't want to deal with college athletics any longer."

We are Russell's premier school. Recruits are tied, in many cases, to the the AAU club they play for... If you follow recruiting boards (I don't expect that you would ALan) you will see rrecruits and their coaches steering them, to gravitate toward schools that have the same logo as the team they play AAU for....

Adidas and Nike and now Under Armour (the one I said on here after giving a lecture at Auburn and seeing what they were doing with UA in 2008 that we should be courting before they blew up), have been influencing the decisions of recruits for a looooooooong time. I am not sure Saul's recruiting philosophy has anything to do with it as he is a different kind of cat but it would not hurt us to land an Under Armour contract. If you follow folks in the know in Summer Ball you would see in the undercurrent that the state of Ohio is a major target for UA sponsorship at the lower grade of AAU levels.

Long convoluted answer which I am sure will make your blood boil as it reeks of influence and unfairness but it is reality and you can tilt at that windmill all you want but it ain't changing Don Quixote.

Fascinating stuff. I had never heard that. My son's team became an Under Armour team prior to last season. Here in Maryland they are huge but I didn't realize there was any relation to recruiting. I guess it all makes sense though.

So to further underscore what borna was saying, I took my oldest up to Worcester, MA on a recruiting trip this past weekend. After I dropped him off I had a couple of days to kill and yesterday morning decided to drive an hour west to Springfield, MA and visit the Basketball Hall of Fame. In the Kentucky display was a game ball from the 1998 championship presented to Phil Knight. It has the inscription "Balls and Uniforms JUST DO make a difference."
