Gentlemen...I was made aware of your comments by a friend who frequents this site, and went back and listened to the area(s) of concerns:

First: I am well aware of the history of Ohio and the MAC. The comments surrounding the First Four were not made to say that Ohio or a MAC team would play there. But if you've done your homework, you will see teams from leagues such as the SEC & Big 10 HAVE played in those games...so really all bets are off when it comes to what teams get sent there. We were simply making the point these teams (and these type of games) get you ready for a situation LIKE the First Four.

Second: On the "home and home" remark re: the schedule. My broadcast partner Bob Spears made the remark in jest. If you would check ahead and look at the teams mentioned, they are all playing each other in the non-conference, and most in close proximity on their schedules....so it does seem as if there was some sort of unofficial type scheduling deal set up. That was our point.

Third: on Campbell and Carter. Simple slip on my part, and I am sorry. If you noticed I did correct it immediately.

I appreciate the passion you all have for the Bobcats and Ohio basketball. As we are in the first year of this package, know there are bugs still being worked out. I am fortunate to be a part of this, and please understand my past in Columbus is just that. I do not mind at all your comments or critique, and know the best effort is being put forth to make this something all Ohio fans can be proud of.

Applaud the stones to come on here and even dip your toes into these waters. Message boards are a dangerous place for back-n-forth for someone in your position.

I must have just taken your First Four comment out of context. To me, it seemed like you were alluding that Ohio...if they won the MAC...could play Sam Houston again in the First Four. My mistake. Thanks for clarifying.

The Campbell/Carter slip-up happens...no harm, no foul. Everyone has slips of the tongue.

I know this is all a work in progress.....and it will have it's bumps along the way, especially when you're trying to blend students in with professionals, such as yourself.

Bottom line is, we are fortunate to finally have an actual broadcast rather than just a coaches cam at the top of the arena panning back-n-forth with radio pumped over it.

Good luck the rest of season.....hoping you'll get to call some great games and meaningful games as we approach March.

Marty,

Your partner mentioned during the game last night that he played against Jeff Quackenbush in high school. Can you share with us what team your partner played for? Just curious as I'm a Newark/OCC fan.

As I mentioned elsewhere on BA, I appreciate the two of you calling us "Ohio" and not "Ohio U" or "OU".

Big respect for Marty Bannister. Not many would go on a board like this and answer our questions and concerns. As I said in an earlier post, he's good and his knowledge of the program will get better with each game. I feel bad for Russ and Rob, but as long as OHIO hoops is on ESPN3, Marty is the voice of the Bobcats. And he knows that. I'll listen to R & R when they aren't on ESPN3.

Thanks again Marty. For you to come on here does show how much you care. Not many would even think to do it.

PS And I did catch them really emphasizing OHIO and not OHIO "U". Good stuff.

First off, tons of respect for coming on here and interacting with us. You are brave man, although you'll find this is one of the less confrontational forums out there. Now on to your point. There are two groups of teams that play in the Tuesday games. The first group is the last four teams as ranked by the committee. The second group is the last four at-large teams. For a MAC team to be considered for the first four it would have to be a pretty bad team that just got hot in Cleveland. Seriously doubt that would be us. The second group wouldn't work either because the MAC just isn't going to get one of the last four at-large bids. If a MAC team is going to get an at-large it would have to be a 9 or 10 seed because we just aren't going to get a 12 seed as an at-large. You hit the nail on the head with the comment about the SEC and Big 10. That's who typically gets those bids. The MAC has not received an at-large big in about 18 years. And then for both Ohio and Sam Houston State to receive at-large bids is a huge stretch.

But as I said in my original post I thought you call a good game and enjoyed both your broadcasts so far. Keep up the good work. Particularly impressed that you haven't called us the Buckeyes yet because I'm sure it's on the tip of your tongue. That's the one sin that will catch you some heat around here. ;)

not a problem for me interacting with viewers or listeners on boards like these. Lots of guys/gals in our business will tell you they ignore these, but I think we all know more check them out than let on.

We are doing these games for Ohio fans everywhere, for those can't tune in to the excellent radio work done by Russ Eisenstein and Rob Cornelius, or those who simply want to "see" their team and can't make it to Athens. The Athletic administration has been great in their support, and the student effort on the production end has been very impressive.

Thanks for all of your comments, I do appreciate them.

by the way for the poster who asked about Bob Spears, he played at Columbus Bishop Ready.

+1^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Welcome Marty and would love to hear more insight into the team from you on this board as the season goes on. It would bring a unique perspective.

Russ mentioned during the Bryant game that he and Rob were supposed to be making their ESPN3 debut, but thinking they would be too tired from all the traveling leading up to the game, decided to wait. It sounded like they soon will be calling the games on ESPN3. I don't know if this is a permanent switch or not.

The reason that all 5 of these teams were playing each other in close proximity is that it was for a round-robin tournament, the "Global Sports Shootout". Hopefully that fact was noted on the Media Notes for the game...

I thought the feed was really solid yesterday, including the broadcasters.

Are they locals? I think they've done every Ohio game, so they're familiar with the players and have a real working knowledge of team history and the players. Unlike some of the ESPN mid-week MACtion people who probably are doing the game from a studio in Charlotte or Florida.

My son had a swim meet so I caught the replay. Had a little trouble with the video and the audio in the opening, but reloaded it and it came out fine. It's not mothership ESPN technical quality -- at one point the score ribbon went from Ohio leading 52-35 to leading 52-12 -- but it's a vast improvement over what we had before.

I agree. Zero complaints here. I also think the female analyst is extremely knowledgeable and enjoy listening to her.

She was really good, and Marty tightened everything up, as he said he would in this very thread.

the color analyst who worked over the weekend is Toni Roesch (pr: Resch) We have worked together on radio and TV for about 20 years. She runs her own basketball skills training center. I will pass along all of your comments to her!

Very enjoyable listen and you can tell that you guys have worked together for more two decades. Excellent on-air chemistry. That game was a snoozer on Saturday, but you guys didn't let us fall asleep.

I was in the exact same boat although I tried watching it live through a bad wifi connection at the University of Maryland pool. If this duo calls our ESPN3 games the rest of the year I'll be happy.

Great to be able to view the next two road games, Iona and Milwaukee, both of which are also on the ESPN3 plan.

MIlwaukee is in Athens next Wednesday...not on the road.

Next roadie after Iona is at WKU. That will most likely be on FCS (Fox College Sports)....it's available on DirecTV....a lot of WKU games (if not all of their home games) are on there. Hilltopper Sports Network does a TV broadcast with radio pumped over...been doing it for years....not a bad product. So if you have DirecTV, keep an eye out. I'm guessing it'll be on.

And as I suspected....it is
