Injuries are never ever an excuse; however, if we fire frank and hire a new coach, I'll let the new guy use that excuse for up to three years. Then if no MACC, can his ass.

Just picked up my copy of Steele's College Preview.
He basically made mention numerous times about our injury bug and that could have been the cause for our not getting to the MACC. I definitely agree with this assessment. We have incurred this issue for at least the last 3 years. I am convinced that if our line backers were not out for those 3 mid season games last year our record would have been better and we could have possibly gotten to the MACC.
Let's hope that the injury bug does not hit us as hard.

Can anyone confirm that Sonny Sano no longer oversess strength and conditioning for the football program? I heard that was the case.

We can blame injuries for a lot of things, but you can't blame injuries entirely on losses like this:

2015
WMU 14-49
Buffalo 17-41
BG 24-62

2014
BG 13-31
WMU 21-42

2013
Buffalo 3-30
BG 0-49
Kent State 13-44

These are BAD losses. No way one or two players makes up for 30+ points. I'm sorry I'm just not willing to put the majority of these losses on one specific thing like injuries. It's a whole bunch of factors. Why are people so afraid to admit that those teams were probably just better than Ohio?

I've always differentiated between the late season games of 2012, and the down seasons in 2013-14. In 2012, what should have been a very, very good season was crushed by 19 season ending injuries. The team tried to hold on, and keep winning, but with most of the starters gone, or playing hurt, they just didn't have the firepower left. As for 2013-14, the main cause was the poor recruiting classes of 2010, and to a lesser extent, 2011. Injuries played a factor, too, as did the switch to a new defense.

The thing with recruiting is that there is about a three year lag between the problem, and when the fans see it, so the problem in 2010-2011 wasn't really visible to fans until 2013-2014. Similarly, when recruiting improved, there is also a lag of the same amount. Thus the strong recruiting classes of 2013-2016 will mean better teams from 2016-2019. Ohio is now beginning to ride the crest of those strong recruiting classes. The next three years should be a lot of fun.

I was born in 1989

Pre-Solich Ohio Football in my lifetime (16 seasons)
2 winning seasons
13 losing seasons
1 .500 season
0 MAC East Championships
0 MAC Championships
0 bowl appearances
0 bowl wins

Solich-era Ohio Football in my lifetime (11 seasons)
7 winning seasons
2 losing seasons
2 .500 seasons
3 MAC Championships
0 MAC Championships
7 bowl appearances
2 bowl wins

How many weeks did we spend in the Top 25 before Solich?

I've seen crazier things happen.

Once again L.C. is very straight and to the point. During his time on this football page his insights are articulated very well and he is right on with this issue.

In the past four seasons, the Bobcats have had 31 Academic All-MAC selections. He has also had two seasons where an Ohio player has been named a semifinalist for the Draddy Trophy, one of the most prestigious academic honors in college football. Academic success is nothing new for Solich’s teams. While head coach at Nebraska, almost 90 percent of his student-athletes earned their degree. Seven times Huskers earned first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors and on four other occasions, second-team honors were bestowed.

Some of those stats (# of wins at school) are merely a function of longevity.

How about this:

1) # of people and % of living OHIO alumni who were alive and remember the last time that OHIO won a MACC and

2) % of those years since we last won a MACC coached by Solich?

Fake me agrees with me.

I was born in 1989

Pre-Solich Ohio Football in my lifetime (16 seasons)
2 winning seasons
13 losing seasons
1 .500 season
0 MAC East Championships
0 MAC Championships
0 bowl appearances
0 bowl wins

Solich-era Ohio Football in my lifetime (11 seasons)
7 winning seasons
2 losing seasons
2 .500 seasons
3 MAC Championships
0 MAC Championships
7 bowl appearances
2 bowl wins

How many weeks did we spend in the Top 25 before Solich?

Improvement from THE WORST FOOTBALL EVER is not much of a standard. First, Grobe got us a fair amount back on track. Grobe. Then, Solich has been here 11 years. Okay, maybe give him 2-3 or so to right the ship. Then, where's the MACC over the long years since then. Why, instead, do we have recent years of stunning losses? Why?

Do not have minimal standards of quality.

That can cause fake me to go spastic with hashtagging.

Where's the band?!
