OUr biggest issue so far this year. Tone is a major offender - CONCENTRATE/FOCUS! Simmons also many instances - but also gets himself in the air before he knows what he's gonna do next.......

Once again I'm impressed that we can really not look very good for almost a full half and end up scoring 80+ points and winning handily. Jarron is the real deal, if he can lesson the turnovers he's going to be something really special. But it's the contributions from all over that really makes this team fun to watch, and dangerous. And it starts with sharing the ball. Kenny looked out of sorts tonight, and I think he ended up with 15 and getting the ball to him in his spots was key.

+1

I think this is spot on. Our guys play team ball and pick each other up very well. We are young and have many folks who have not played that much with each other and are learning as they go along. I think they only get better as the season rolls on. Tonight I saw a side of Kenny's play that I hadn't seen before, at least to this extent. In addition to his spot up shots, he drove to the basket several times and either pulled up for a shorter jumper or took it to the rack. And, Wadly, WOW -- he's a new man this year. Aggressive moves to the hoop off the dribble and sealing inside. Lot's of upside that you got to love.

SWATLEY!

Having seen every game this year except Tulsa, I'd say that Simmons played his worst half of basketball this year and his best half of basketball this year v. Marshall. Too many turnovers first half (like someone said above, got in the air too many times before knowing what he was going to do with the ball). Took over the second half.

Is Ellis Dozier getting a redshirt this year? I've noticed he hasn't logged any minutes even in garbage time in the past couple of games.

So frustrating when they turn the ball over like they did in the first half last night. 12 missed free throws was pretty brutal, too. Take care of the ball a little better and sink some more free throws and this is a 30 point blowout.

I think overall we've seen fairly pleasing results while simultaneously seeing a lot of room for improvement. Improvement that is more than feasible with good experience and proper coaching. All that together has me excited.

Two toss-up games due up next, if we win both it is time to get very excited. With all due to respect to Captain Caution McKinney, we have 4 tuneups in the Convo after this road trip before MAC play starts. 10-2 with close respectable losses to Tulsa and FSU? Yeah, I'd take that. Even if we drop both the upcoming road games, as long as we hang close I think this team will be in a good spot.

I think the turnovers are the sign of a young team. Marshall was trapping the ball handler and overplaying the passing lanes. This left the drive wide open most times. It also left them susceptible to the ball fake and back door cut. We didn't do any of that in the first half and didn't seem to have much recognition of what they were doing. We kept trying to make the obvious next pass which made it easy to defend. That and for the first 15 minutes they had a much higher energy level than we did. Simmons' penetration in the 2nd half changed all that. In addition, the Herd started to get fatigued because the way they play expends a ton of energy.

Marshall might be interesting in a couple of years. If D'Antoni can get some really good shooters in there they could become tough to play because the system creates a lot of open shots.

I agree. At this point, with the small sample size we have, (6-games) this team is better than I anticipated. Cut out 3-5 turns a game, and get 2-3 more stops a game, while continuing to be this efficient on offense....well the prospect of what this group could develop into is exciting.

I'm very excited with what this group is capable of doing. I could nit pick on Kaminski's o-le defense, Treg being...Treg, Tony's lazy fouls, turnovers, etc...but bottom line, this group is playing hard, together, and finding ways to win. That's promising! I fully expect this team to have a few clunkers and probably lose to a team or two they have no business losing to, and I honestly thought one of them was going to be last night. Especially after the first 15 or so minutes. Honestly, at halftime, it felt like we should have been down 10 as opposed to tied.

It certainly felt like Marshall should have been leading at the half based on how things were going.

I thought Marshall looked defensively energetic and pretty athletic...moreso than my look ins on previous games. They have a disjointed approach to offense....half assed dribble drive system that gets their athletes good looks in the lane ...and having the shooter stretch the floor was helping them last night. I think he is on the right track for now and having Duhon and the assistant there with some recruiting cred does not hurt. I am not a fan of the U or their fanbase ....which is saying a lot as I usually am pretty understanding and accepting of most but if there is anyone I enjoy seeing down.....it is them. Hope we can build our program up and stay on top of them no matter how good they get....Good thing they left the MAC because of the inferior comp.;)

never argue with idiots, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Tony with 15 boards? He will be a monster to handle in the league this year. Jaaron's turns need to decrease if we are to compete for a MAC title. We forget he missed a whole year and is averaging 36 minutes a game -- so physically tough. Kenny will be Kenny this year. Great shooter, smart player but lacking defensively. Love that guys like Treg, Dartis, Block and even Wadly can step up with huge stat lines on any given night. Block can go off like he showed earlier in season and Dartis will be in Khari's spot VERY SOON. Love Laster's energy off the bench and I have seen Gollon hit a couple shots and show some energy when he plays his 3 to 6 minutes. Overall, so pleased with this group. Last year I went into every game thinking we would could easily lose. This year I go into every game thinking we could easily win.

I actually thought it was a decent crowd. Maybe the best since the exhibition.

Did not look that way on tv, not for a rival in so many people's mind. A few friends went and were surprised by the low turn out.

The Convo looks empty on TV even if 9K actual butts are there.

Some of that is also that the shots that show the seats show the upper parts behind the baskets typically.

I can speak for four empty seats. I really wanted to make this one, but had just finished driving 720 miles the day before. The prospect of another 178 miles roundtrip the next night after work wasn't in the cards for me.

Paper had under 6800. The empty parts I noticed were the lower ring. That surprised me. Lots of empty seats behind the buckets.

Decent crowd for a Tues night during holidays. Agree that tv shots don't flatter the Convo crowds. I'm guessing 5500 actual butts in seats. Also keep in mind Marshall basketball fan base is traveling less than normal right now.

Simmons attacks the rim and gets to line. That is huge as he gets us into the double bonus early. Overall we are a good free throw shooting team. We get lots of attempts and make a large percentage of them. Bobcats also a good three point shooting team so far. 40% as a team. We keep these numbers up we will be pretty tough especially if we take better care of the basketball.
