Comments on ESPN about the Rose Bowl and the selection process. If anyone ever thought it was about anything but the money, read this.

"The strong presumption is that we're going to go with the highest-ranked team that's available to us. Only in extraordinary situations will we deviate from that presumption."

When asked what those extraordinary situations might be, Jenkins used the example of Wisconsin going to the Rose Bowl for three straight years.

"Let's say Wisconsin was the next-highest-ranked team, but right next to Wisconsin was Minnesota," Jenkins said. "That would be a situation where everybody agreed we could jump Wisconsin to take Minnesota. We use that as an example of an extraordinary circumstance. What we found is when schools come in multiple years, the first year they come, people are really excited and come out in droves and have a wonderful time. The second year, people are excited but fewer people come out, they buy less merchandise, and by the third year, there's a substantial drop-off.

By this logic, they should take the loser of the B10CG. O$U fans were spoiled last year with the national championship, so the Rose Bowl would be a huge letdown this year. But Iowa and MSU fans would be thrilled to go to Pasadena.

If we end up playing Temple, someone has a sense of humor without knowing it.

While it makes complete sense for a MAC team to compete at Ford Field in the event of the Big Ten or Atlantic Coast Conference not having enough bowl eligible teams, it is easy to see why MAC schools would give a hard no to Ford Field and the Quick Lane bowl organizers.

Great article up until the part where he wanted to move the MACC over to Indy as a prelude to the Big TwEleveN game :-(

Real nice kid. He wasn't limping at all and said he'd be playing in the bowl...

That goes along with what I suspect will happen. If BG wins tonight, they go to Mobile, NIU will probably go to Boise and Toledo to San Diego. If NIU wins, they go to Mobile, Toledo goes to Boise and BG to San Diego. I think Ohio goes to Boca, Akron to the Camellia in Montgomery (vs App St), and CMU to Detroit as a replacement for either the B10 or the ACC in the Quick Lane.

Tulsa finished 6-6. It won games it was 'supposed' to win and lost to stronger teams.

Here is how the Golden Hurricane season went:

47-44 over FAU (3-9)
40-21 over New Mexico (that surprised many by going 7-5)
38-52 at Oklahoma
24-38 to Houston
34-24 over Louisiana Monroe (1-10 going into its game today against New Mx St)
17-30 at East Carolina (5-7)
42-66 to Memphis
40-31 over SMU (2-10)
45-30 over UCF (0-12)
38-49 to Cincy (7-5)
21-44 to Navy
45-34 over Tulane (3-9)

Just one win over a team with a winning record.

If Ohio is pared with Tulsa, plays its 'A' game on D and Sprague/Vick runs effectively (meaning no fumbles), the Bobcats prevail.

Tulsa, 2-10 in 2014, new coach and their players will be overjoyed to be bowling. An Ohio advantage is Coach Solich and his staff have done this bowl thing many times and know how to keep the team focused. It would be great if the injured seniors could be healthy and play. I can think of; Vick, Bass, Carpenter, Patterson and Macer who have been hurt who I hope can play. I saw Sprague's injury reported as "neck." Has anyone seen anything about the severity?

Good point on the injuries. I wonder what the status of the injured players currently is. Fingers crossed; I have to think in 2 weeks Ohio should be a fairly healthy team.

I would much rather see us versus an AAC team in Boca as opposed to any Sun Belt team anywhere. Facing a MWC team would be great as well. Please, no SBC team in Camellia.

I'd take Utah State in Idaho again. That worked well for us in 2011. I'd just hate to play Boise State on their own Smurf Turf in a Bowl Game.

Ga St routed Ga Southern 34-7 to become bowl eligible. Smacks of the Sun Belt making sure it fills all its slots.

K-State officially became bowl eligible with a win over WVU.

There are now 77 bowl-eligible teams, meaning that no more than three 5-7 teams will go bowling this year. Nebraska's already in. If SBama loses to App St, both Minn and San Jose St will get in. If SBama wins, the B10 and MWC will duke it out for the final slot.

Maybe I'm a sucker for name brands, but what takes the fun out of mid-major football for me is that your reward for winning the MAC Championship is potentially playing Georgia Southern? Honestly, I haven't looked up their resume and I'm sure they're an outstanding team. But blah.... it's why the hoops tournament is 1,000% more fun for me, even if you get waxed in the first round as you get to see a matchup who might not normally get to see on your schedule.

As for OHIO, Appy State or really any Sun Belt team = don't we already have plenty of those types of names on our current schedules? Our tie-in's are probably appropriate, but not appealing. Even if they're super clubs, theyre just blah matchups to me. I'd much rather spend my money on @Penn State, @Minnesota, or next year @Tennessee. For some reason, if I'm going to spend a buck travelling to see OHIO play, the generic bowl match-ups is not where I personally get excited to go.

Well said Chicken George. That was kind of my point where I posted above about getting either an AAC or MWC team rather than ANY Sun Belt team anywhere. Sorry, but if I am BG I would not be thrilled after winning the MACC to get what they are getting.

Years ago I started to appreciate things differently. Texas vs Penn State in Austin was cool, Nebraska vs Oklahoma in Lincoln was cool. However, there was this game in Shreveport, La, cold but the pregame chili indoors right next to the stadium, a battle of the bands, surrounded by the families and friends of the players, Cochran, Futrell, Blankenship and Tre Scott playing cat and mouse with the ULM QB, the team taking the trophy to to the band after the game. Most fun I have had at game period.

What I like is Ohio winning bowl games and being able to buy bowl championship t-shirts. It didn't matter that Ohio State fans were going to laugh at me. It didn't matter if we beat a Sun Belt team or a Power 5 school. I enjoyed it back in 2011 and 2012 when Ohio won and I could celebrate and buy a champions t-shirt. With that said, I don't want them to go to the Camellia Bowl. It falls at a time when I will not be able to watch. Almost anything else I can think of can be scheduled around the Ohio bowl game.

Bobcats heading for Montgomery, Ala. to play App State is my call. If you like to combine a winter golf trip with your football, there are 3 R.T.J Golf Trail courses within 45 minutes of Montgomery, including Capitol Hill, 9 miles north in Prattville. (home of LPGA event every year) Prattville exit is loaded with very good places to stay and places to eat, better than downtown Montgomery imo. Many Bobcats packed their clubs when we went to the Go Daddy in Mobile and a good time was had by all on another RTJ Trail location. Book your tee times on line!

I know I'd like to see more P5-G5 games in the bowls, on neutral turf. All too often the bowls are more of the same kind of game you might have gotten during the regular season.

I can't disagree with playing a "brand" school. It's the new overused term in 2015 but I'll go with it as the NCAA has succeeded in creating a delta (that will continue to grow) with the P5 distinction. They are silently getting what they wanted.

App State isn't a brand but my buddy here in Cinci is a grad so we would enjoy the trip.

Playing UC would also make for some good fun with friends locally as well.

Temple and/or the Idaho Potato Bowl = out for me. I tried to make the Boise trip and it was crazy money to get there and not easy. Temple has always been a clown school to me and does nothing for me as a fan to watch.

BANG! Oh baby they should stick to being the brunt of Cosby jokes!
