Not to mention our friends in Huntington who would play 6-6 Zippy in the Bahamas.

The B12 commish wants to cut off bowl participation at six-win teams, which would mean some bowls would not be played. Of course, he might change his tune if he can put a 5-7 K-State team (if they lose to WVU this week) or a 5-7 Texas team (if they beat Baylor) in the last slot available for B12's bowls. He says it probably won't happen this year, but something will be done for next year -- which probably includes nixing the five proposed new bowl games. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/writer/jon-solom...

Per the NCAA Twitter account bowls will be filled by 5-7 teams with the highest Academic Progress Rate.

So 5 and 7 and a high apr becomes the new "bowl eligible." Sad, sad, sad.

Hoping no MAC team gets paired with a 5-7 team.

Hmmm...5-7s should be paired with other 5-7s. Loser finishes 5-8.

Contracts will prevent this from happening.

I don't see how this lowers the standard any more than 5 wins over 100+ ranked teams and a FCS team. Once we got past about 15 bowls this whole prestige argument became moot. If we have 2 or 3 6-6 teams staying home which ones stay has nothing to do with merit but only to how close you are to the bowl that happens to have a opening. Is using APR any worse? If we have 35 bowls we might as well have 40 or even 64 to let everyone play.

They would have to officially rename it the Toilet Bowl. I bet Clorox would sponsor it. The humor of it all would stir up a good bit of interest.

Roto rooter would fight to sponsor that bucket of slop.

5-7 Missouri will not accept a bowl bid. They were the #2 APR team (tied with K-State, actually). So K-State is in (assuming they accept) regardless of the outcome of their game Saturday.

One thing that I'm not clear on is whether 5-7 teams will be able to fill a conference's bid as though they were 6-6. Specifically, in the B1G, there aren't enough teams to fill all their slots, so the Quick Lane should open to the MAC. But if Nebraska, Minnesota, and Illinois all qualify due to APR, can the B1G fill the Quick Lane bowl with one of them, or does the MAC keep the spot?

(My guess is the B1G will get it's way, whatever works best for them, because that's how the sport is run.)

A hunch tells me just answered your own question. I bet in every scenario the G5's get screwed.

I don't think they'll be allowed to backfill with 5-7 teams as if they were 6-6. One option I've heard is that conferences would be allowed to backfill with 5-7 teams after all bowl eligible teams have gotten a spot. So if there are five openings left and two of them are B10 slots, B10 teams could be named to fill them. I'm not sure how it would work with individual bowls; B10 has its bowls in three tiers, with the bottom tier this year being Quick Lane and Armed Forces.
