First is Kenny Kaminski, second is Doug McDermott. I'm not inferring anything. I'm just feeling cheeky.

Kaminski will come closer than anyone has to scaring Jamerson's single game 3 record - 14 I believe it was. If have never seen him shoot - you have no clue how good and pure a shooter we have here.

With all due respect . . . You are smoking the August green kool-aid big time.

Roles are established and players know who should be taking shots. First, to compare a guy who hasn't even laced it up for us yet to Dave Jamerson is silly. Our all time leading scorer and NBA first round draft pick. For a guy to make 14 three point shots he has to take at least 25 shots. Please tell me how many of our players SINCE Jamerson have taken that many shots in a game. Your simple breakdown of " he's open and he just shoots it" is not reality. If anybody starts to consistently make shots they gradually get more looks. Nobody gets the green light right out of the gate. Maybe he will, but it's too soon to say.

I don't disagree that the comparisons to Jamerson are silly, but to say this guy is going to have to earn shots is silly. He obviously can shoot from what others have seen and the coach has said. If his teammates know he can shoot the rock, they're going to let him shoot it, regardless of how long he's played for the team. I didn't see anyone stopping Bubba Walther from bombing away first time out when he transferred from Akron.

And how many times did Bubba take 14 three pointers in a game much less come close to making that many? No doubt Kaminski will have the green light but to make the leap from a career high 5 to 14 seems a little optimistic to me. For one thing to get that many three point shots in a game you have to a) play against a very bad defensive team or b) be able to put on the floor and beat you man in addition to being a great outside shooter. You also have to have teammates that can get you the ball when you are open.

"you have to a) play against a very bad defensive team"

We do play Marshall this year, correct?

One of my buddies earned the privilege of playing on Team Ohio with Jerome Lane (he of the epic backboard shattering dunk as a Pitt Panther)and Dave Jamerson.

He says that the only guy he played with or against that could come off a screen and release the ball close to as quickly as Dave was Steve Alford of Indiana. He had the privilege of guarding Alford in a game vs. the Hoosiers -- apparently helped hold him under 20. But, he said he had the longest postgame ice bath in his career due to all the screens, shoves, elbows and grabs designed to free up the sharpshooter.

It does take help from teammates screening and passing, but the best need less time to get their shots up and are more consistent with their mechanics. A lot of guys can score against bad defensive teams. The best do it against good defensive teams.

400 Khari Harley
378 Kenny Kaminski
360 Jaaron Simmons

The numbers by their names are the total career minutes played in college. I too am very optimistic about Simmons and Kaminski but we need to remember that they don't have a lot of college experience and have sat out for an entire year. They will be playing starters minutes having only played more than 20 minutes in a game 4 times each. It's ok to be optimistic but we also need to be realistic and understand that the players we hope they are won't be the players they actually are in the beginning. There will be a learning curve.

Wow, if you've got that right and I assume you do, that's some good perspective. This is why I'm more than OK with our non-con schedule. Our guys need basic collegiate experience.

What a day at the Convo.....Wow!

With Simmons I just feel like the chatter around him sounds like that which surrounded Walt when he transferred. "Guy who only averaged two points per game at a BCS school" but can totally play. I know Kron has some solid PG's and Central is going to be tough but I see Jaaron averaging 15 points per game and eight assists. And as far as Kaminski goes, the dude was a 50 percent shooter from distance and averaged 5 ppg in the Big 10. Trust me, he's going to be tough. And Tony, Block, Gollon, Laster, Dartis...they're all going to benefit! We WILL make the NCAA this year, mark it down.

Wow I hope Simmons has the court vision and passing talent you see. DJ never averaged 8 assists per game in any season. 7.5 was as close as he got, in 2010-11.

Career high 5, in how many minutes, in what league?

Teamates who can get you the ball - can you say Simmons?

BTW - I said "scare" Jamerson's record 14. I'll bet a case of Green Kool-Aid he comes closer than anyone has before his 2 years are up.

He hit 5 3's in 21 minutes against Penn State and 5 3's in 23 minutes against Minnesota.

I like his chances to hit double digits this year in 30+ minutes against a team like Arkansas Pine-Bluff or UC Riverside.

+1 Same player, same reason. I think he fits into Saul's system very well. He'll be a real key cog in the gears.
