Like I said, it seems like a long shot as we sit today, but in December 2011 who would have thought we were in danger of losing Groce to Illinois 4 months later? Probably nothing to worry about, but you never know.

Gary Parish (CBS Sports) weighs in on possible replacements...

Quote:
Saul Phillips (Ohio head coach)

To be clear, I don't think the Wisconsin job would or will fall past the above candidates. But, if it did, for whatever reason, Phillips has obvious ties to Ryan and the program. He's a Wisconsin native who played for Ryan at Wisconsin-Platteville, then worked for him at Wisconsin. He's a two-time Summit League Coach of the Year.

The five he mentioned before SP were Greg Gard, Tony Bennett (UVA), Ben Jacobson (Northern Iowa), Wayne Tinkle (Oregon State) and Bryce Drew (Valpo).

Let's hope we are worried in April.

Yes and no. I don't want to be worried, but if we are for the reason I think you're inferring, I could maybe handle that.

Here's a DeCourcy list of candidates. Saul was on the bottom of the list. I can't see Saul as a top-3 candidate if the interim doesn't stick. (can't remember his name)

It won't happen, but it dawns on me-wouldn't it be wild if Phillips got the Wisconsin job, Groce's struggles at Illinois continues to the point that he and the Illini AD decide to come to a mutual parting of the ways and Groce comes back to Ohio?

It won't happen, but if it ever does, remember, you heard it here first. ;)

Bo was a few rows back in Dekalb watching the game last night for those that didn't see the game.

Too bad Bo had to witness that game. Hopefully, he'll catch a game in Athens this season and we can give him an impressive Bobcat welcome!

I have to think Will Ryan (our assistant, Bo's son) had to have known about the issues his parent's marriage is facing long before any of us did, but that has to be tough on him...
