if you think about it the school that should be aggressively adding the state of Ohio outline to their branding is Fiami.

Toledo has state outline in some of its uniform combinations now.

Maybe it should go in parentheses. :)

I read that NIU is trying to position themselves for the next B1G expansion. Interesting idea, but the B1g doesn't have any directional schools, and I can't see them going that direction. Secondly, the B1G has no more than two schools in any state. From west to east:
Nebraska - 1
Minnesota - 1
Iowa - 1
Wisconsin - 1
Illinois - 2
Michigan - 2
Indiana - 2
Ohio - 1
Pennsylvania - 1
Maryland - 1
New Jersey - 1

It's actually very symmetrical, with 1 from each of 4 states on the edges, and 2 each from 3 states in the middle. If the B1G were to look to the MAC for another member, the most logical choice would be Buffalo, adding another state, and I don't think that's likely at all.

Northwestern is nothing but a direction. ;)

I assume the argument is that they enhance the B1G's presence in the Chicago market? If so, that's a laughably poor argument. North Dakota State would have a better argument than NIU. That's at least a new market for the B1G.

Other than maybe UConn or MAAAAAAYBE one of the Virginia or North Carolina schools (which is pretty unlikely) I don't see the B1G expanding any further in the foreseeable future. It would take something major, like the Big 12 melting down and Oklahoma or Texas needing a new home, I think.

The P5 has moved on from the conference re-shuffling and onto spending all this new playoff money.

I don't think we have any designs on the B1G. We aren't AAU like the rest of the schools (except Nebraska but they were AAU when they joined). It's possible we're dreaming (or the AD at least) about an eventual Big 12 invite since we would expand the Big 12 into a new state and maybe capture the Chicago market, if we are able to get the program up to that level.

I don't see us ever getting to that point but it doesn't hurt to dream I guess. Maybe an AAC invite at some point if the stadium is upgraded and we're able to dredge up some fans from between the cornfields here.

Big 12 makes a more logical goal, I agree. I don't know how much more expansion we'll see, but good luck. I think you're right that the key is boosting the fan base if you want to get an invitation to the P5.

The Big 12 seems to be a few teams short in more ways than one. I would think BYU, CSU, Cincy, or Boise State would all make better new teams than NIU, but who knows for sure.

The Big 12 problem is that when they added WV, they added a team not remotely close to anyone else. Adding western teams like Boise State or BYU would only compound the problem. With WV in the league, it seems more likely they would add UC and Memphis to fill in the gap.

Now, if they lost WV, I could easily see them adding, say, BYU, Boise State, and Colorado State. Alternately they could add Houston, Tulsa, and SMU, and become a very concentrated regional league, much like the old SW conference.
