Success in 2015 to me will be after the season is over and you look back on the MAC games; that OHIO loses to no team with a losing record. No sheeting the bed with foul turkey against a crappy Kent team that dismantles OHIO and allows FIAMI to represent the East and win the MACC.

No Bonehead Brain Fart by a seasoned QB and a crappy Maimi team sends you home with a loss. And no Homecoming Muffed punts that allows a really lousy Central team to steal one in front of the large crowd of faithful.

No, to me it is time to totally destroy the dregs of the conference. No a win is a win bullshit or any road win is a good win. Knock the crap out of those everyone else beats up upon--do not let the lousy ones remain close enough that a single play can impact the outcome.

If you don't win the conference but you beat the bums than it simply meant another team was more talented, tip your hat to them and wait till next year.

I think that after a coach has been with a team 10-12 years in a weak conference and hasn't won that conference's championship, well, that coach should pretty much get to stay forever so long as he has some years in which he comes close to competing for a division title, maybe getting to the conference title very occasionally.

Winning the conference championship clearly is not a criteria.

We need to check the security for this site, because someone has obviously hacked into Monroe's account. Or maybe it's just sarcasm, which is more likely.

I have concerns with how Bobcat teams have finished in recent seasons. Over the past three seasons, the Bobcats have a .384 winning percentage from November on. In 2013, the team was outscored by more than 100 points in its final five games.

That's exactly the period of time when I feel like the 2014 team played it's best football.

2014 in November Ohio was 2-1, outscored opponents 75-56. Most recent season does not fit your supposed trend.

And I get criticized for pointing to the last 30 games?

Way to pick the last three of last year. Great opposition then. Beefs and redhawk were scintillating last year. Those last two drives in the NIU (theirs, ours) really showed us doing the do when it mattered.

redhawk, after going winless in 2013, couldn't stop us from a 3 point win even if their coach was in his first year!

Q. When was the last time Ohio defeated a conference opponent who ended the season with a winning record?

getting back to the original topic..

anyone know what happened to Paul Meyerberg's countdown? A few years ago he moved it from presnapread.com to USA Today but I haven't seen anything from him or USA Today this year. imo he is the most thorough and accurate reviewer.

THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY

WHEN, WHETHER SOONER OR LATER, WE LOOK AT HIRING A NEW COACH, HOW WILL YOU FEEL IF WE HIRE A COACH FROM THE MAC EAST WHO HAS THAT RECORD AGAINST CONFERENCE OPPONENTS: NONE IN THE LAST THREE YEARS--AND BEFORE THAT 9 IN 6 YEARS?

for those of you who see hallowed grounds, the above appears to state facts

As I recall, The Situation showed that Solich's record against teams with winning records was among the best in the MAC. I also recall a team that had no wins at all against MAC teams with winning records, and their coach moved up to Miami (Fl).

Monroe, I think you're in for a disappointment this fall, because I think that the Bobcats will play well.

First, can you give details on that coach and what Situation proved. I'm not being cynical; I'm curious on the actual details.

Second, how we perform this year--and I hope we do very well--is a different issue from the issue of how we'd feel about our next coach having the record achieved by Solich against MAC teams which finished with winning records.

Here's a link to the good work that The Situation did: http://www.bobcatattack.com/messageboard/topic.asp?FromPa...

My point is not to bash Coach Solich. I think Ohio was fortunate to get him and he really turned this program around. Even without a MACC, his overall body of work stands up as The Situation outlined with his research.

However, my point is that as of late, I don't think the program is where it should be record-wise. Ohio is just a mediocre team in the conference. 12-12 in the MAC with no wins over any winning MAC teams for four seasons is not that good.

With this campus, this administration, the experience of this coaching staff, a couple of high-profile national TV wins and the best fans in the MAC, this team should've been better over the last three years vs. conference competition.

My hope is that we buck the recent trend and have a breakout season this year. If not, do we continue with the status quo of going .500 in the conference for the fourth or fifth straight year? Is it wrong to want to be better than average?

The Situation had several very good and interesting thread. This thread listed the records against winning teams of several high profile MAC coaches:
http://tinyurl.com/q394ex9

Thinking about Solich's record at Ohio another way, he's had ten years at Ohio. Of those ten, I thought I'd sort them into three groups:
Building/Rebuilding years
2005 - 4-7
2007 - 6-6
2014 - 6-6

Years with freaky numbers of injuries
2008 - 4-8 (13 players lost for season)
2012 - 9-4 bowl (19 players lost for season)

"Normal" years
2006 - 9-5, MAC East Champ, Bowl
2009 - 9-5, MAC East Champ, Bowl
2010 - 8-5, Bowl
2011 - 10-4, MAC East Champ, Bowl
2013 - 7-6, Bowl

I anticipate at lease three more "normal" years in 2015-2017, barring another year with freaky levels of injuries. Sorted this way, the year that stands out as disappointing is 2013. I'd like to see at least 8 wins this fall.

Good stuff. For me, the season that stands out as disappointing is 2012. Started off with an Earth-shattering win at Penn St., a tough fight vs. Marshall that devastated their fans and a 7-0 record before going 1-4 at the end of MAC play. Somewhat salvaged by the bowl win, but that season was shaping up to be really special...

2008 was also disappointing in a similar way. Preseason we had high expectations, then they lost a close one to Wyoming, and then another close one to Ohio State, which included the loss of T3. As the injuries mounted, they never got untracked.

As I said before, the season that looks out of place in that table is 2013. It was a "normal" year, no unusual amount of rebuilding, and no unusual injuries, but they had some internal issues, and won less games than the other "normal" years. That was the year that bothered a lot of fans, without a doubt, including me. It also bothered Solich - he was not a happy camper that year, and he made a number of changes after that year, and they seem to have fixed those problems.

When I made the table, it was also interesting to note that there was a 7 year gap between rebuilding years. At that rate, there will not be another one under Solich as I doubt he'll coach for too many more years.
