By my count this incoming group of Freshmen chose Ohio over an average of 2.7 other FBS offers, a new high (prior peak was 2.3 from last year). Three chose Ohio over P5 offers: Harris over Iowa, Evans over Minnesota, and Xavior Motley over Illinois, which is below the last couple years where 5 did. I haven't viewed all the film of all the players, but on the whole it looks like a very solid class.

So, NO QB at all (HS or JC)? I hope the coaches know something about somebody that we don't. I believe the most important position in FB nowadays is the QB. You need a good one to be really successful...

According to Ohiobobcats.com, there are two more signees that BA hasn't listed yet:

12:25 a.m. - Another southern addition. Welcome to Ohio! Bryan Long Jr. (Marietta, Ga./Hillgrove)
12:15 a.m. - Another linebacker for the Bobcats. Welcome to Ohio! Robbie Fusner (Grove, Ohio/Central Crossing)

Edit: oops, never mind-didn't scroll all the way to the bottom of the BA page!

plus the kicker, Aiden O'Neill. Some of these may be preferred walkons or grayshirts, though.

Houchins, I believe is enrolled and already on the roster.

37 Houchins Jr., Kevin S 5-11/195 RS SR South Euclid, Ohio/University of Louisville

Strobel, I believe, will not join the team until after this term.

An Arkley tweet said that Houchins would not be considered as part of this "class". But he will be playing in the Fall. I'm guessing the same would apply to Strobel. Heitzman wasn't announced with the class last year although I'm not sure when he "committed" to play for Ohio.

There was a poster saying "Coach Solich needs to start winning in the living room." This class has players choosing Ohio over B.G., Toledo, Western Michigan and transfers who I am sure could have gone elsewhere. I wonder if today shows Ohio "winning in the living room?"

OhioBobcats.com seems to have both Houchins and Strobel included as part of an announcement that 25 players are now part of the team:

3:21 p.m. - We have welcomed 25 new players to the Bobcat Family! What a great National Signing Day, thanks for sharing it with us #DreamGreen16
3:20 p.m. - Welcome to Ohio! Fifth-year graduate transfer from the University of Michigan - Tom Strobel (Mentor, Ohio/University of Michigan)
2:30 p.m. - Welcome to Ohio! Fifth-year graduate transfer from the University of Louisville - Kevin Houchins Jr. (Cleveland, Ohio/University of Louisville)

All-in-all seems like a strong class on paper.

So much for this being a small class. Still not our best class, but we are up from 10th in the MAC to 7th. That's a pretty solid leap for signing day.

Not to be Debbie-Downer, but I don't know boys and girls. I guess we will just have to wait and see. Some of these guys have me scratching my head wondering if money changed hands or did someone have some seriously compromising photos they did not want to surface. Time will tell, but 7th in the MAC is not what I would label a massive achievement.

I wouldn't expect a #7 finish. That data is very preliminary. To get an accurate rating they would need to do several things:
1. First, they need to finish entering data. Some of the teams only show a few recruits, so they obviously aren't entered yet. This will get done today.
2. Next they need to delete the unsigned players. Players that won't be signing are still listed. That is most likely too much work, and it's doubtful they will do it.
3. They should omit the preferred walkons. Heck, we don't even know which of the signees are on scholarship, so how would they know? This won't be done.
4. They need to rate the unrated players. After the fact ratings seldom if ever happen, so don't expect this. Most likely they will get back to work on 2017, and leave 2016 incomplete.

My guess is that after they do whatever they are going to do, Ohio will drop to #9 or #10, which is better than I expected. Still I think it's a sold class, and the prevalence of players with other offers, and early commits from players who actually attended an Ohio camp give me confidence that this class is ok.

I do hope that at the press conference tonight someone asks which recruits are preferred walkons and/or gray shirts.

I guess Jeff Christian and Clayton Glasco have been wished well in their future endeavors. We have to figure out the scholarship status for the Lueherman brothers, Matt Seymour, and Louie Zervos too.

The math seems to dictate that 4 or 5 of the guys in this year's class will be preferred walk-ons or gray shirts. My guesses would be Long, O'Neill, Sink, Fusner, and maybe Mustin-Sherman.

Recruiting buzz is mostly silliness to me since who cares once the whistle blows and they have to perform on the field.

That said, being the 9th or best class in the MAC is good? This may not be a perfect equivalent, but if you're the 9th or best football team in the MAC, you stink. You are a really bad football team.

11 years in and L.C. tells us that this should be Solich's best team based on recruits of 3-4 years ago (hey, haven't those guys been on the team for a few years ??).....

Perhaps the MAC has upped their game. I can't remember us having this many quality recruits and being ranked so low. Usually if you look at the Top 75 recruits in the State of Ohio, rarely do you find more than one MAC recruit. I found two Bobcats. Ranking recruiting classes is a crap shoot to begin with, so perhaps it would be best to wait until the dust settles to say we are ranked 7th, 8th or 9th.

Press conference TL;DR:
Houchins is a combo CB/S
Strobel is NG
Looking at transfer QB they like who they recruited out of high school
Preferred walk-ons are Long, O'Neill, Sink, and Fusner
No academic issues…everyone is qualified academically
OL group is most athletically ready group since Solich has been at Ohio

Exactly. The entire MAC has stepped up recruiting considerably. The change started along with the mid week games, and continues unabated. The MAC is now the second or third highest ranked G5 conference these days.

Thanks, C Money. That clears up my questions. As regards a question you asked above, since Zervos and the Leuhrman twins enrolled in the fall they aren't gray shirts, so I presume they are walkons. Seymour is clearly a gray shirt.

I didn't expect this class to be highly ranked, and it won't be, but it does appear to be solid. It fills needs, and I really like the offensive linemen. Those guys up front should assure a strong offense in the future. I also like some of the unranked players, like the DT from California. I think he's a steal.

It's good to think that everyone in MAC has upped their game.

But how does that help us if we've not improved more than everyone else? To be 9th or 10th of a better group still makes us 9th or 10th of that group.

M.O., please.
