"Doing something we don't like" is not a blunder. You can disagree with it, but there's logic behind it. Again, they've been doing it for years and there's been no displeasure voiced by the coaches.

If there were a blunder, it's that they don't sell specific rivalries and matchups well enough. I get the scheduling of the last day of conference play for travel. I get the ticket sales approach you're citing for the OU AD.

On the other hand, the league needs to do better at selling the big games for TV outside of just Akron vs Kent, which they do a great job of selling. BG vs Toledo should be sold. OU vs. Miami. Etc.... When they get a chance for a league TV slot, they need to at least try to schedule to get the best possible showing every time. Obviously you can't predict who will have great years in advance, but you can try.

It's embarrassing for the MAC when they instead end up with a game being shown on ESPNU live from EMU, NIU, or Miami where there are maybe 1000 people in the arena. Or during football when they're at EMU, hosting Army a few years ago, and they had 5,000 people in the building on a Saturday. Stop giving the schools that don't sell TV exposure until they earn it. The ACC does that with Duke and UNC getting the most exposure. The MAC can do the same thing.

I would argue the answer to that is yes. The reason: Everyone is doing it because it generates dollars. If you're pissed about schedules, look at the Illini's goofy schedule. They don't play the standard Wednesday/Saturday stuff and people still show up for Sunday night games at 7pm.

How much input did the coaches have on playing Friday? If I was a coach and I knew there was a possibility of playing a tournament game on Monday, I'd want to play on Friday too.

Senior night starting at 10pm last night. Granted it is 9 pm in the Prairie State but anyone who wanted to go down to senior night was facing a lonnnng drive back to almost anyplace that is not Champaign. Big East/BIG/Valley etc have all messed with scheduling and places like Ames or Wichita are positively packed even with the screwy schedules and being in the middle of BFI or BFK. We need the product first. Meanwhile us fans need to support and put as much positive up as we do negative.

I would think one of the benefits of going to ESPN3 is that you can schedule games any damn time you want because you aren't left fighting for scraps on ESPN2 and ESPNU after the high-major conferences fill prime slots.

I'm mostly on board with this ESPN3 plan (and I think more conferences and sports leagues will look at a streaming-first model (think WWE Network), but I just really, really wish the MAC had a more aggressive timeline to get this fully functional. Taking four years to get every school up to par is way too long.

We got a foot of snow overnight here in suthurn Ahia. Significant problems with travel and flooding.

Level 3s right now in all counties surrounding Athens.

Wondering how this will impact Miami's travel to Athens. Normally they would be busing in today but I'm not sure they can do that. Perhaps very late today.

Doubt if this game will be postponed because it would create a domino effect with HS tournament games and the Ohio women's game over the weekend, and also the Monday night MAC tournament game.

I've been wondering about this. I've heard/read nightmares about flooding because of ice chunks in the Hocking. Anyone local have any input on the road situation?

Take the southern route because we are getting that same foot of snow today in DC that Athens got last night.

I've switched sides on this. I'm becoming more and more enamoured with ESPN3 especially now that my boys have such full schedules. The ability to watch our games on my phone or iPad while at a swim meet or basketball practice is great for me. The Client Stretch is hit or miss for me but ESPN3 is usually very good.

Hold the phone...am I reading this right?

The women play their last home game on SATURDAY and start their tournament on MONDAY? But the Men just couldn't handle the short turnaround?

So, the Men play on Friday night and also start their Tournament on Saturday.

So, let me get this straight and I don't want to be too sexist (since I have 3 daughters and a bunch of granddaughters playing sports) but the women play on SAT but not the men? Uh, so much for all that logic about the schedules. I'm sorry but who would draw more fans to a Saturday game, men or women? Just asking...

This scheduling is even more stupid (the word is probably stupider) than I originally thought it was.

That's because the women only play 4 minute quarters.......wait, that's not it.
Maybe only three of them can run to half court.......nope, not that either.
Maybe because the ball is smaller, it's lighter and takes less strength...nah, not that probably.

Maybe because it's the f*&^%^&n' MAC!! That's the ticket.

Where's my edit button. The men start the tourney on MONDAY!

I guess I could turn this around and say the women should really be pissed since they don't get as much time to prepare. Oldkatz has it right...

Athens and Hocking are now Level 2, so if they can get out of Oxford, they can make their way through Columbus and down 33.

Local fans, if you weren't within driving distance of the Convo you would probably be just fine with the scheduling and games on ESPN3.

What a day at the Convo.....Wow!

Fighting for scraps is right. sometime in the last week Cleveland State was playing Valpo at 10PM in the eastern time zone. Just for the chance to play on ESPNU. At that point is it really worth it?

Hey, it's this league. I know it is my opinion, but that logic is stupid on so many levels. They do not care about the students who don't get to see games or the alumni/fans that won't travel to a Friday game when it could be attended if it was a Saturday. It's the same way in football. Unfortunately, TV rules now. They might as well just play without crowds the way things are going. We'll all just sit in the living room and watch the games with empty seats everywhere. As for the Coaches and Administrators not complaining it probably says a lot about them too.

I bet if anyone surveyed season ticket holders and single game ticket purchasers they would get an earful on this kind of scheduling. But then, when is the last time anybody surveyed the "customers" about game day experiences and scheduling in the two revenue generating MAC sports?

I can attest from conversations with the Ohio AD and admin that they're not crazy about playing at these times. But it's a MAC decision that we get little to no say in. From a conversation in the Rohr Room several weeks ago, I know they were hoping for just one midweek home football game this year. But clearly that didn't happen.

I don't understand this type of spin. The MAC office doesn't make these decisions without a majority of the schools (its bosses) agreeing.

I don't care if this is meaningless, I'm excited. Chance to end on a high note against the rival at home on senior night. Sports isn't all about winning championships, sometimes it's just about winning a game. I really want them to win this one. Disappointed I have a conflict keeping me from Athens tonight.

Count me in as excited. Plus, I want to go give my thanks to Stevie for a great four years and for Mo and Bean's contributions. Stevie Taylor will always be a favorite of mine for his love of Ohio University.

Getting ready to head out, looks like I will be coming in 33 instead of 13 for this one. A little longer, but should be much safer.

I opened a new tab and am getting the audio from the radio feed.

Every night should be Senior Night. Love seeing this, but can't help but feeling we'll need every point of this 23-pt lead in the 2nd half.

53-30 ohio at half. Bean is in a 3 point zone. Whole team is. I'm at the game and this is fun. Now one half left to kick some RedHawks butt.
