SIlly me, I thought the statewide AILMENT was a complex of symptoms most easily recognized by an unhealthy obsession with scarlet and grey and easily observed by noting a confligration of empty Wal Mart bags and marking of territory and possessions with big "O"s in addition to unhealthy twitchy spelling affliction acted out by spelling the name of another school.

By the way, we are having a bad season but the state of the program, from top to bottom, IMO is excellent. We just need to ride this year out and let Saul rebuild the locker room with players of his choosing.

NDSU 20-8 under coach Tim Miles in 06-07. In 07-08 NDSU was 16-13 with Saul as a rookie coach. The following year kind of looks like Solich 2nd year. His team went 26-7 and lost in the first round of NCAA. Then it doesn't look good for a few years, 09-12 NDSU goes 42-47. Anyone wondering why OHIO didn't go after Saul when Groce left just needs to look at that number 42-47. JC was the right coach at the right time. It sucks that the OHIO players have 3 coaches in 4 years but you can't blame anyone for wanting to better themselves. In Saul's last two years at NDSU they went 50-16. I see everyone saying that next year is the year. I hope so but I doubt it. Looking at Saul coaching record at NDSU I think it will take 4 years. I think Saul is the right coach for OHIO and he will make us one of the top mid-major programs in the country. I'm just not expecting results anytime soon.

my thoughts-

- Cinci chili has the look, feel and taste of real chili that's been consumed and then filtered through a pig's colon.
- I don't feel like Bean's tweets are egregious.
- Referencing a senior that quit on his team is odd though, no?
- I'm reminded of early comments about Kendall Crute looking to be the best of the freshmen during his very brief time in Athens. 3 freshmen guards + Tone and Mo would be easier to stomach right now.
- Schaus made the right decision to hire JC. JC made the right decision to leave for BC. Schaus made the right decision to hire Saul. The only problem is the timing of JC's departure, and that's not Schaus's fault. I think our program will do better in the long term with Saul than it would with JC and that is a credit to Schaus.
- Our Sweet 16 team took a 2 game road trip north in the middle of conference play and suffered its biggest lost of the season at EMU after giving up a 15-0 lead at Toledo. This is not a Sweet 16 team, however.
- I thought we attacked the zone well in the beginning but when shots weren't falling the effort dropped off too quick.
- I think EMU has a significant home court advantage over the Bobcats, going from playing in front of 9K to 0.2K cannot be easy.

J.C. never said outright he planned to stay at OHIO long term. He kind of hinted that he might, and he talked about liking to come back to the MAC, etc. Saul, on the other hand, said multiple times that he was committed to staying here until at least his young daughter graduated from AHS. That would be about ten years. The first time I met him I asked him face-to-face if I could believe him about his desire to stay at OHIO long term. He told me point blank that I could "just watch him" and I'd see that he was a man of his word. I've never seen any coach be more explicit about this issue at any school. Now, I know that there are now some who are wondering if we'll want him here even a year or two from now, but I truly think he'll be a great coach here once he gets his own recruits in key positions and has time to teach his system to the players. It'll be interesting in five years when the big time offers start to see him say "no thank you." I'm one of the few on this board old enough to remember the last time an OHIO coach had a public P5 offer and decided he wanted to stay in Athens. It'll be great to see that again. In essence, I trust Saul to be a good coach and to me a man of his word.

The Gold Star Chili in Athens closed down within 2 months of me graduating. This was NOT a coincidence.

Gross...I wouldn't touch that Gold Star...or any Gold Star. I drive past 2 skylines and 2 gold stars to get to a specific skyline. I have one within walking distance of my house but only go there in an emergency. I also don't like people calling it Cincinnati chili. That makes it sound like they are all the same. It's skyline or nothing!!

It always confuses me when people compare Skyline to their favorite chunky meat and bean chili. It's not the same, and it's not supposed to be the same. That's why you eat it over spaghetti or on a coney with a pile of cheese. You need the full experience to understand how good it is. Simply tasting the "chili" on its own and then proclaiming it bad is just wrong.

Hey now, I like Skyline Chili and we have one here in Lyndhurst! And no culinary contribution? Pish Posh!! Michael Symon, Rocco Whalen, Jonathon Sawyer and other fine chefs highlight the Cleveland restaurant scene. And some of the finest restaurants in the USA can be found in Ohio City and in Tremont.

Skyline is awful, Stadium Mustard is great, your wife is fat, and players' Twitters are a no-win proposition.

That cover it?

Gold Star rules . . . Skyline is an acceptable substitute . . . my wife disagrees, but she's from a Cowtown suburb, so what does she know? Also, opinions from the Mistake on the Lake on this subject are not to be taken seriously. ;-)

come on guys way too much talk about Cincinnati chili vs. the places to eat in Cleveland .... we all know that when it comes to quality eateries, Cleveland outnumbers Cincinnati by a landslide !!

Bean however has shown a strong desire to take ill advised shots whenever he damn well pleases ..I think he was pissed at MO for taking "his shot" in the Buffalo game and he just plays like it's him against the world .... He has been to the foul line only 28 times this year and shoots 85% from the line .... Bean does what Bean wants to do .. and penetrating getting fouled and dishing the ball ain't it .. Is he untouchable ? .. what's the deal ?

I've focused on Bean in the corner during Mo's winning drive to the bucket at the end of the UB game and wondered what was going through his mind. Was it a positive, "WE won" thought? Or a negative, "I didn't hit the winning shot" thought. Hard to tell (for me, at least) from the body language.

+1, he's not taking any accountability in any of his "rants"

I don't take too much issue with his tweets aside from lack of accountability. It's not like Allen Hester who used his facebook status to nuke Tim O'Shea from orbit without restraint.

Blue Ash Chili is right by my apartment and it blows the two chains out of the water.

Throw Camp Washington Chili in that mix too.

More on that Chili experience.
I was in Milford (western Cincy suburb). It was 2:00 PM. I had not eaten all day. I had on a brand new white shirt and an appointment on the west side of Akron at 5:30. I need to keep the shirt clean.
So..
I get the Chili and Mac combo. Extra napkins. To my surprise the meal is kind of soupy but I get a plastic fork with it (used drive thru) instead of a spoon. I know Wendy's will give you a spoon for chili. Plus I got a cup of stringy cheese and two packs of oyster crackers.
Maybe this Cincinnati chili experience is best as a dine-in meal.
The whole concept of chili to go has to be simplified. I am from Youngstown and we would never try to make spaghetti a fast food drive thru meal.
