College basketball is a guard oriented game. We simply do not have the guards to be a really good team. I'd say the Bonnie's guards smoked us tonight

Their number three and number 10 both smoked Stevie and Bean. We have their guards and we are pretty good

Stevie isn't playing well but I don't see how anyone can call out Bean. 54% from the field, a little under 40% on 3's and 86% at the line along with 4 boards and 3 assists and averaging over 19 points. His D could improve but I think he's our best player so far this year.

I would challenge anyone to go back to the tapes and see how many Bean gives up compared to how many he gets. I bet it's close. Even with his scoring he is still not what you would normally see in a 2 guard. I think we have 2 combo guards at the helm. It is what it is. THis is a year where players in the system are melding with a new coach and his recruits. May as well just sit back and see what happens. What ever they get is gravy. The rest of the league is improving. Saul is focusing on the MAC and putting his guys together. We are still in much better shape than when JG took over and had some funky line ups and personnel.

I agree and I think most people on this board do as well. Stevie isn't a starting point guard, but Saul doesn't haven't any other choice this year. Next year will be much different at the point.

Let's fact it. This isn't Saul's players. He didn't pick Bean and Stevie and I really don't think Mo is his type of player. Look at who he's recruited and who he brought in. Laster and Taylor are athletes but they're big guards. Simmons appears to be more controlled than Bean and Stevie and Kaminski, Block, Dartis -- they're similar in that they can shoot and have size at their positions. I think Tony fits in well because he's a solid post player who can shoot. I think Wadley will not pan out because he doesn't fit Saul's post in that he's not a 6-9 shooter with passing skills. Khari may work out and Treg and Thomas will be solid leader guys. Let's just hope we can catch fire. If not, I'm not counting on this year as a championship year.

I'm afraid that this is going to be a lot like the football season -- a rebuilding year. Hopefully by MAC tournament time we'll be clicking on all cylinders.

I don't know. Maybe this isn't a rebuilding year so much as a transition year. How many players has Coach Phillips already brought to the program, 8-9? We're watching the transition from what's left of JC's program to what will be SP's program.

And like Bornacatfan says, Coach is fixated on conference play. There's still PLENTY of time for Ohio to make some noise this year and they will. It's the games in late February into March that really count, not the games right after the Thanksgiving holiday.

What game are you watching sir? His matador D kills us plus it's all about him. When he got yanked today he booted Ryan Taylor from his seat on the bench so he didn't have to sit in the number 2 seat between the coaches.

Our best player is not getting the ball inside enough. And I'm referring to our best player on BOTH sides of the court.........

Yup.. I find myself watching Bean a lot when he doesn't have the ball. He just seems to be unhappy. Never wants to come out. He's a good shooter.. He's kept us in ball games, but I question him as a teammate. His defense and passing abilities are horrid.

Guards will very rarely (never?) look inside.. Or if they do, it's for a split second and they don't give the big enough time to make a move on his man. The only players that make good entry passes into the post are other post players.

I think it's his court vision and anticipation. It just doesn't seem like he can make split second choices. He looks like he only thinks about beating his man but has no plan if he encounters help defense. He had a nice dish from under the basket to RT today but you could tell that he had no idea Taylor was going to be there. It was just a lucky occurrence. I think what we are seeing right now is how truly valuable Kellogg was last year.

LOL. Who is our leading scorer? Who has the highest FG percentage?

I already stated he needs to work on D.

Other than Campbell and Ryan Taylor we haven't seen much consistency from most anyone.

What game were you watching?

Who? Mo? He looks frustrated and lost at times on the offensive end. If he shoots 40% from the field it's a long year.

So Bean, not our PG leads us in assists and you complain. Why not look at who is playing PG? Bean can't lead in most every stat.

And who committed the fouls on the 3 point attempts?

When you're slamming JC, remember that he's the one who recruited Harley.
