And seriously? You let him go!!!!! , he is not a big time QB, he's a dynamitic Athlete who is one dimensional, who if he insists on playing QBhe will have not see a 2ndcontract in the NFL. Barrett is 10x the QB of Miller, Jones is 5x, and they have two coming in who are better.

Transfer QB

Conner Krizancic ‏@CjKrizancic_5 1m1 minute ago

I am transferring from the University of Minnesota to fulfill my dream of being a Division 1 quarterback at Ohio University #bleedgreen

Not exactly what I expected. The idea of transferring down to play QB never seems to work (Roback and Bates are recent examples for us). Minnesota has the talent level of a good MAC team, and if they kicked the tires and didn't think it was going to work at QB, I don't see why we should be getting excited.

Not to discredit OHIO University, but to compare Minnesota to a "GOOD" MAC team in an insult to the job that Coach Kill has done!

I would disagree in that I think both Roback and Bates worked out well. Roback was an excellent Tight End until he hurt his back. Also Bates did some good things, and would have done a lot more good things, if he had been a little more open to playing WR before he got to the NFL. I think Krizancic has the same level of athletic talent as those two, and if he doesn't work out at QB, he could make an excellent WR or Safety. I see this as a win-win.

It's not often that Ohio can pick up a first team Division I all-Ohio QB. I can't see how they can lose on this deal, especially after watching the video.

I strongly agree. His statement was probably true when Brewster was the coach, but under Kill they have moved up, and they are now a good B1G Tenfourteen team. They finished tied for second in the West this year.

To address this part of the post, recall that Ben Roethlisberger was recruited by Ohio State not as a QB, but as a Tight End. When it comes to good athletes, there are lots of cases where they are recruited for positions other than QB, and some of those go on to be very successful at QB.

No one is ready to hand him the starting job, but I'm looking forward to a competition between him, Duckworth, and Maxwell in the years ahead, and am hopeful that whoever comes out on top will be very good.

Bonus:

When we are preparing for playing Minnesota in week 4 this season, this kid can run the scout team and provide insights into their playbook.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Good point. We will need all the help we can get.

To respond to the critics:

1.) Minnesota is a second or third tier Big whatever team...though perhaps on the rise. Still, a game with NIU/WMU/Toledo would be very competitive.

2.) Sure, Roback and Bates were contributors...but not a QB. We need help at QB. If he turns into a serviceable WR, ok. But as we know he's showing up to play QB, moving back to WR down the road will be a slow process.

3.) I'm not saying its a bad transfer...who doesn't want great athletes? But if we're interested in transfers for the QB position, we should be able to land somebody that is an immediate candidate for the starter position.

Glad you said it, because I was thinking it from the first word on it. I hope he kicks ass at QB, but when we see what someone like UMASS can do with a graduate transfer in Frohnapfel, I was hoping we could follow that lead and get someone that is proven, not a project. Perhaps there is another opportunity lurking as well that can compete with DV/et al.

And for the record, I hate tOSU, and Ricordati and Torgerson are DB's.

Minnesota gave the national champions fits late in the season. Minnesota would be a double digit favorite favorite over any team in the MAC right now. Minnesota's a good Big 10 team.

I think that's fair. He's very likely to be able to help Ohio in some way, but there is no proof he'll be a good QB. He was a borderline 2/3-star recruit as a wide receiver, which was thought to be his better position than QB. If that's accurate, he probably won't be a great QB, but it's worth seeing what he can do at QB, and if he's not that good there, he'll help the team some other way.

Fine, but they also lost to Illinois. They are much improved, I'll give ya that and they would be favored over any MAC team...but they aren't an elite program or anywhere close.

The original point was to say that the talent level is not THAT far beyond a good MAC program. We occasionally nab a guy with a Cinci offer...its pretty much the same thing. The fact that he never got a look at QB at a (historically) mediocre B10 school is cause for concern.

And its different than Bates...as Bates got a look at QB and even played some for Iowa State.

Whatever, maybe it works out. But this would classify as more of a risk, whereas I was looking for someone to steal the QB job from the moment they walk on campus. According to the old pigeonhole principle, guys like that are around and surely looking for somewhere to play QB. But apparently not for Frank.

Schools often recruit a kid with the intention of moving them to a position but with the promise to give the kid a shot at the player's desired position. Eg kid wants to play tight end but school wants him as lineman. Promise the opportunity. But unless the kid blows the doors off. He ends up a lineman. Guess is this happened in this case. they never really intended to give him honest shot. I give him credit for getting out and coming to Ohio.

Minnesota in 2014 started Mitch Leidner a new model QB, a RS SO who goes 6'4' and 240 who will have the job locked down the next two Years. Last June the Gophers received a commit from 6'6" Demry Croft, see link below. I also give Connor credit for coming to Ohio. His opportunities are much brighter at Ohio.

We get it. Paul is unhappy, displeased, not satisfied, pines for the birds in the bush over the one in the hand.

Just to be clear, who has Ohio had at QB that did get P5 looks at QB? That would be Bates and Bower. Guys like T3, Boo, and TT never had them, and I think they were all better at QB than Bates and Bower. I don't buy the "if they had a look at QB by a P5 school, that makes them better" argument.

Honestly, if Ohio had gotten a signed letter from him a year ago, we'd have all been thrilled to have another 3-star in the class. I don't see how his having spent a few months at Minnesota makes that less true.

I think Windham had a Cincy offer prior to signing with Ohio. He too is a good athlete but so far he has not been able to crack the starting lineup.

I don't count him out. He had a year off from football that set him back, but he was coming on strong in fall camp last year, and looked very good in his time during the year. We'll see what progress he makes by next fall, but he appears to have the best arm of the QB's but isn't the runner that some of the others are.
