I don't disagree. QB recruiting has been a problem, and that was exacerbated when TT became a star as a Sophomore and two QBs behind him transferred, Kyle Snyder and Ronnie Bell. I am hopeful that Isphording will do a better job of identifying and attracting high school QBs than Gdowski did.

Will his choice, Quinton Maxwell be a dud, or the next Colin Kaepernick? I guess we'll find out.

No Duckworth praise or indictment. He's likely the Scout Offense QB. So he's running plays of the other team shown on a poster before every snap. (everyone's looking at what they are supposed to do--receivers not running OHIO routes) He's with receivers that don't get into games playing against the starting defense. Additionally, in a game, if your receivers are covered and you felt pressure, you may take the smart option and toss it away--but not as the Scout QB--that wouldn't help the DB's practice reacting to and making a play on the ball so he likely tries sticking the ball into tight coverage about every pass play.

So it is really tough to say he tosses a lot of picks unless he is taking snaps with the first team.

Paul--thanks for calling bcat2 out on the false/garbage statistic. Enough of this pollyanna crap. Everything is not peachy if we've not beaten a MAC team with a winning record for about 30 games.

Bcat2 presented a valid statistic.

However, as usual, your statistic is invalid Monroe. You keep trumpeting this garbage "27+ game this" "30+ game that" argument. OHIO has beaten MAC teams with winning records in their last 30 MAC games. OHIO has beaten FBS teams with winning records in their last 30 games. The total number of games played is irrelevant when you're only considering MAC opponents.

Your garbage ass 30 game statistic is literally false. Perpetuating this falsehood is damaging to the preception of the program Monroe.

Okay. I played a bit loose with the facts. The last time that we beat a MAC team with a winning overall record for the entire season was 11/2/11 when we beat Temple. That was 43 games ago by my count, admittedly somewhat irrelevant because that 43 includes 15 non-MAC games.

Before that we last beat a MAC with an overall winning season record (Temple again) on 11/16/10. Add another five games with no victories over MAC teams with winning records. So, only one win vs. a MAC team with a winning record in our last 33 MAC games.

So, situation, I apologize for my slight mis-statement.

Yes, you cannot beat a team with an overall season winning record if a team does not have an overall winning record.

But is only one win against a MAC team with an overall winning record in our last 33 MAC games enhancing the "preception of the program"?

Tell me, please, when I should bring up that terrific game against Louisville last year. Most of us gave that one a pass as sort of a season opener, one-off event. In hindsight, not so much. In hindsight, that's what this staff gives too often.

It's not a "slight mistatement". Counting games against MAC teams without winning records is entirely misleading.

Why don't you go full blown Keith Olbermann on us and start saying it's been X hundred days since the last time OHIO beat a MAC team with a winning record?

OHIO is literally behind only one MAC team, NIU, in wins against winning teams since 2005.

You can start talking about that Louisville game as soon as you start talking about the Penn State, UL Monroe, Marshall, and North Texas wins (all winning teams). Those wins have all occurred after that Temple game you reference.

You've made it clear a MAC Championship is your #1 goal. But know this. THE ONLY MAC TEAM WITH A WINNING RECORD YOU NEED TO BEAT TO WIN A MAC CHAMPIONSHIP IS THE OPPONENT IN THE MAC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. See Turner Gill's Buffalo team for details.

It is not entirely misleading. What is misleading is your tolerance of mediocrity.

Every year our sched contains about five games that it would be difficult to lose (4 against dregs of the MAC and an FCS game). We're so close to a MAC title. This staff has had 10 years and can't do it. Take away those 'gimme' five games each year and, then, talk about our record, our quality of play.

The occasional good game is all we get after ten years.

Boring and underachieving--go ahead and tolerate and root for that if you will. What a huge, enthused fanbase that's given us.

I have no idea what you're trying to say about our failure to win the MACC. Your enthusiasm is fine but often surpasses, overwhelms any good sense...leaves what you're trying to say unclear.

Being 2nd to NIU in wins over a period is a statistic without significance--tell me about who's won the MACC during that time period.

+1
Also, the Scout team QB gets the fun of playing a different offense each week.

Heard from a reliable source Braxton Miller plans to transfer in-state but is only interested in playing for a coach with national championship experience.

In related news, Jim Tressel rumored to be considering naming himself head coach of Youngstown State.

Which bar were you in at the time, and how much had your reliable source had to drink? ;-)

Tressel has his hands full at the moment. He is trying to get a contract with the faculty union that feels that the university is funneling too much money to athletics. Sound familiar?

I think former Miami, OH coach Don Treadwell is in the lead for the YSU football job. He was an assistant to Tressel at YSU and OSU. Got a quick heave ho in Oxford.

Mark Snyder , who was recently let go as OC at Texas A&M is also mentioned. Was at OSU and YSU with Tressel. Former Marshall HC, too. Probably too expensive for YSU.

I don't recall where this conversation transpired, but I can assure you my source had consumed significantly less green kool-aid than I had. He seemed extremely reliable.

Assuming that TO's rumor is true, which I actually don't think is the case, I believe that he would not have to sit out a year because he has a medical redshirt this year and hasn't played even one down. Am I correct? Again, I'm speaking extremely hypothetical here because I can't see this happening.

I think he would be eligible under the graduate and transfer rule.

Scott Frost, the OC, would not force a square peg into the round hole. Scott will tweak his system for his next QB.

Yes, I discovered since I wrote the above that he will graduate later this month. He's apparently a fairly good student. Maybe he likes sports administration. Now wouldn't that be a hoot! ;-) [Again, I don't think that this will happen, but the speculation at least gives us something to talk about other than when will we next beat a MAC team with a winning record, whether Frank is a fossil, etc.]

Graduate transfer is the only vehicle I would like to see, but I do agree we likely need another body or two in this position group to push the competition level.

I have much appreciation and respect for the current stable at that position, but when you compare the better teams in the MAC over the years, the one position that really pushes a team over the top to a MACC year over year is QB.

I don't need to recite them here as we all know who they were, and it seems we never have that guy that can put the team on his back and carry them with BOTH skill AND emotion.

I want that guy, and if UMASS can do that with a guy like Frohnapfel, we should be able to do the same in a time of need. I just have more value for a graduate transfer, not a JUCO, when you already have guys in the queue.

Ooops. I see it is Mike Riley.

Wow. Didn't see that one coming.

Another in-state coach who has national championship experience is Tuberville. He was an asst coach at Miami in the 80's when they were on their NC romp.

Based on the number of QB's we have, I am not sure about bringing in someone with one year of eligibility vs. someone with two years.

With that said, David Watford of UVA graduates this month and has been granted his release by UVA. He is leaving on very good terms and was nothing but first class after his demotion. He was very well respected by the team, coaches and fans.

Talented, but did not have a supporting cast and continuing changes of quarterback coaches and offensive coordinators did not put him in a good position. Probably a bit more durable than Vick. He volunteered to play some wide receiver this year after several injuries so that opens up some possibilities of he and Vick on the field at the same time.

Played at the same high school as Ronald Curry (UNC /Oakland) and Tyrod Taylor (Virginia Tech / Baltimore Ravens)

He is interested in a sports marketing graduate program.
