[ well we've gone over the Athens town thing before and I would say 3-4 places are way bigger cities than Athens. Ohio is below .500 in football overall, but Toledo, CMU, and Miami are way better and NIU and BG as well. Kent State has some big name players kicking around. I haven't been to all the MAC stadiums, but I'll just say PEDEN is quaint to say the least. It has some real dump elements. Buffalo, Toledo and Akron among others are closer to airports and interstates
I'm not saying that anyone of these things is a fatal flaw based on our recent success, but I'm trying to propose some causes.
I had he opportunity to attend the BSU caravan in association with an INdianapolis Indians game. Listened to Lembo speak. He is impressive. Balls Stadium has come a long way. Still only 22 K ish and has not been full since your boy Nate from Bellaire OH and Brady left. THe facilites and Weight room are finestkind and the strength coach is off the chain good so promises of development are not empty. THey talk about nutrition and character to their recruits and boosters. Lembo bases his program on redshirting as many kids as he can and ppenly talks about that philosophy of getting them on campus for a year practicing and getting used to life as an athlete while no having the pressure of games and tells the kids they will finish their degree and start their masters before they are done. Talks about 24 year olds who are physically men amongst boys playing their 5th year and how it helps the program. Interesting evening at the ball park courtesy of OUr former Ticket man Roger Jones and Indianapolis Indians intern and former OU hoopster Erin Bailes. Had a great night and a lengthy and interesting 1 on 1 with Coaches WHitford and Lembo and AD Scholl who has 2 brothers with OHIO degrees... I can't speak for other MAC schools but they are making it very easy for recruits to feel like Balls is a destination and their emphasis is on recruiting Indiana HARD in both FB and Hoops.
thanks Borna for that update. Frankly, I have a sneaky suspicion that most MAC schools have a fair story to tell and a lot depends on the story teller. I wonder if the recruits there worry about Lembo leaving for greener pastures, I think I would. With the exception of EMU in football (and I'm not even sure about that), I don't think there's a team in the MAC that's not a coach away from winning the conference in a few years.

Rogar and I talked about that on the way down to Indy. I do think Lembo likes Muncie but like you , I think he will be gone with a MAC title. He has their APR the highest it has been in program history and with his 5thyear philosophy only bolsters that. I don;t know much about most fb programs . The CMU and NIU facilities seemed pretty impressive nut I do not have much input so I won't conjecture.

I registered to go but can't make it because my little league team (that I coach, not play on) got a game scheduled for 6 tonight.  But if I win the raffle prize, I fully expect one of you to pose as me and accept the award.

Appx 150 there tonight. Good presentation, attendees were a bit on the quite side. Channel 4 was there so should be a bit on the 11:00 news - interviewed Solich and Phillips.

I think part of the quietness was around Frank's talk.  He was pretty comprehensive in his discussion about the team.  I also think it was pretty similar to what I've read about prior to last night.

My takeaway points, being more of a basketball than football guy:

*Schaus made a couple comments I liked, including his joke about asking for an "amen!" that it's a great time to be a Bobcat, based on the venue.  (old church turned bar.)  He mentioned how he'd like to have a kick off event prior to football season in Columbus if they can make it work out.  The idea seemed almost like a pep-rally type event.

*Saul talked highly about his recruits, and again Harley's skills.  He mentioned the "bounce" that Laster has, and that Taylor can flat shoot it . He said he was after Taylor while at NDSU, but Taylor had little interest in Fargo, but is enthused to come to Athens.  He mentioned that he knows less about Crute skill wise, but loves his enthusiasm, getting lots of texts from him about looking forward to coming to Athens. Also, he said that Simmons, after a year in Houston, is "coming to college where he should have to begin with".

*Saul had nice things to say about the Taylor's and the Kellogg's.  He mentioned the opportunity Mo has to play for Senegal being a very big deal, and that Mo is 100% healthy now.

*My last recollection is his answer to the question about his aim for next year's recruiting class.  With the four open scholly's next year, he said he'd hope for a couple guys who are 4's, a PG/Combo guy, and the "best guy he can get".

I've said it before - if Saul's team plays half or 2/3 as good as his personality and enthusiasm, we're in for some fun times in The Roundhouse.

Was a good venue, had good food, and was a good turnout.  About the only thing I was disappointed about was the lack of trying to get Bobcat Club donations.  Last year they had a good deal where if you made your donation at the Caravan you got entered into a helmet raffle.  Not saying they had to do that again exactly but there are people that attend these events that aren't OBC donors and of course I am never opposed to getting a little something extra when I make my donation. :)  Just thought it would have been smart to have a way for people to either make their donation if they had been putting it off or to maybe encourage someone to do so that was feeling jazzed after all the talks.

I am bummed that I am going to miss out on the June 19th Football Meet & Greet, that will probably be a fun event to go to.

You can't get much different with Athens and Houston in this country.

The "big deal" opportunity for Mo on the Senegal team of course is playing vs Top Notch Intl competition - including NCAA and NBA players. This is great.

Phillips per recruiting mentioned "4's and 5's" - I liked hearing that. "Best guy he can get" of course great no matter what the position "digit".

I liked hearing how he was emphatic that this coming year is all about the seniors - Mo, Stevie, and Bean - He wants them to have a great final campaign. Sounded clear to me he is expecting scoring from both Stevie and Bean this year - we're going to need it!

While I agree we'll need it, I still think what makes or breaks this season in term's of wins and losses are the contributions that are given by guys like Ryan Taylor, Harley, Crute, Setty, Laster, Thomas.  A couple of them will have to give a lot of minutes.  I'm pretty confident two of those guys will be solid.
