Can you imagine what a sleaze you have to be to walk into these kid's homes (and I emphasize KIDS because that's what they are) and tell them how committed you are to them and to building something special...and then abandon them when the first decent job is offered to you?

That's where college athletics is today. $$$$$$$. I'm with Steve Hays...burn the whole thing to the ground. Its rotten to the core.

Sorry but that's what it's always been. We just didn't have a constant news cycle and a million blogs reporting when a frog farts.   40 years ago we would never have known about this.

Late to the party.  I heard the rumor Monday, and brushed it off because I didn't believe it.  I pretty much agree with the Love's sentiments.   At the same time, money talks.  If he more than doubles his salary, he will and probably should go.  Count me among the 'Boals is not the answer' ship.

I found the financial sideshow to be pretty wonderful.   That's what I do every day, and there nothing more I love than cookie-cutter advice for everyone...

The entertainment value of BA threads falling into financial oblivion is about the same as me trolling my Facebook feed or watching Jersey Shore as a pregame for Thursday Night out in Athens.

Just back in Athens after a trip to South America -- Chile, Uruguay and Argentina -- and I'm greeted by this soap opera?  What a welcome home!  If all the rumors and half-baked reports are remotely correct (LOI rescind requests, especially) not only is JC gone, but his departure is being accomplished in the most destructive manner that I can ever remember at Ohio.  I'm still hoping that once the smoke clears we'll discover that things aren't exactly as they seem at the moment.  I think Uncle Wes has it right.  If he's gone, we can make the best of a bad situation.  Go OHIO!

Glad you made it back before the earthquake.

But you came back to more tremors here.

I dont doubt most sane people realize JC should consider the BC job and take it if given the chance. BUT with Jon Smith leaving the team at the end of his SR year and now the Tariq Owens situation..I've got a couple really good sources in athletics at the younger level let me do some research. Usually if there is smoke well you know. #FIREJC

It's been said before the MAC is not a destination league and OHIO is not a destination job.  We survived, after some suffering, when Nee left.  We survived when TOS left.  We survived when JG left.  We will survive if/when jC leaves too.  That really is life in the MAC.  The good news is OHIO is a great job for someone who wants to move up the ladder. There will undoubtedly be some bumps but I look for Schaus to have a good coach in here as soon as JC and BC make their decision.

The real key for OHIO to get to the point of a Xavier where you can develop guys internally to take over and keep moving up.  That keeps the basic structure alive and well.  The more difficult thing is to try to change cultures, styles, etc. every two or three or four years.  Having said that, OHIO has done that pretty well.

Thanks for your concern.  We were in central and southern Chile.  The earthquake was in the far north, not too far from the Peruvian border.  There was actually a level 6 earthquake in the same area when we were there. I think it's kind of funny, in a weird way, that they had to call out the Army today to round up about 300 female prisoners who had escaped from a woman's prison when the quake apparently cracked a wall.  Fortunately, the tsunami wave lost intensity before it reached the shore and didn't cause much damage at all.

How true!  Hopefully, the JC tsunami will likewise peter out before it reaches the banks of the Hocking.

The interesting thing is that if you look at every coach that has left OHIO since and including Danny Nee, NONE has had any more success than they could have at OHIO.  I'd say Nebraska back then was a dead end job that Nee had only mild success with, Bryant is certainly not a great success, Western Carolina, and even Illinois to this point has not been the best of moves.  Any of those guys, could have easily had the success they have/are having at the destination job in Athens.  Just shows bball coaches don't always make good career moves.

I think it's unfair to say he bombed at TCU. They were actually on the upswing in wins under his watch, but I imagine he left because he felt TCU would drown in the move to the Big 12 and having to play Kansas, Texas, OK State, Baylor, etc.

So then he would move to BC in the ACC?

RS Bobcat, I was thinking about $$$$$ but forgot to include it.  I wonder if the money made them happier?  It's probably the only reason they leave because the lack of real success is amazingly consistent!

Groce was .603 winning at Ohio, is .602 at Illinois (albeit with no NCAA wins), Nee was .615 at Ohio, .572 at Nebraska. FWIW

Hunter was different than the others and has been at western Carolina for a long time doing what he loves to do-coach basketball. He had his dream job and it didn't work out too well In the end. Oshea is more or less where he wants to be and improving-wouldn't put in the same category either as this was not his destination job as we all know. And Groce has the same winning percentage after his two years as he did at Ohio and is probably trending up. Every situation is different, so I wouldn't quite look at it the same way as you have. Hunter comes the closest to Ohio being his destination job and we fired him.

So in general - everyone hates Jim Christian because he wasn't honest in admitting that Ohio wasn't his destination job, and everyone hates Tim O'Shea because he was honest in admitting that Ohio wasn't his destination job. About right?

So my afternoon just opened up.  You guys want me to drive down to Chestnut Hill and slash JC's tires on his rental?

And for the record, I hate tOSU, and Ricordati and Torgerson are DB's.

No. But put a big Ohio bumper sticker on it along with the Attack Cat car flag.

I think TOS was upfront from the beginning that he wasn't a fan of Ohio or Athens. Christian at least said Ohio had the potential to be a great program and he felt somewhat at home. (I'm paraphrasing, I don't remember his actual quotes from the introductory presser)

I know a lot of people have said that coaching against the likes of Duke, Syracuse, UNC, Louisville, etc. on a nightly basis is a negative for the B.C. job. That may be true, but it's a huge positive for the Jim Christian brand.

These guys are competitors and want to compete against the best. Not only that, but show it. What better way to enhance your career by showing you went up against Roy Williams, Jim Boeheim, Rick Potino and Coach K?

Regardless of whether or not B.C. is a lost cause, he has to at least try doesn't he?

That would be unproductive. Stand outside Yawkey Center with a boombox and sing "In Your Eyes" at the top of your lungs.

the downside to hiring JC was that he doesn't do well in the post season, the upside was he would be a solid coach that would likely be around for awhile.

now he's out the door at the first phone call after only two years and we're left with a Sweet 16 team that lost in the first round of the NIT and a 1-5 record against Akron. he shorted us the return on our investment.

Awesome!  Hadn't thought of that option based on the fire and brimstone here.  Perhaps I could play the role of the paper delivery kid in another Cusack classic, Better Off Dead, by riding my bike there and yelling "We want our $500,000!".

Whatever you do, don't play Cusack's character Martin Blank in Grosse Pointe Blank!  Good movie with a great soundtrack.
