With all the is going on in Steubenville, this is the other ugly side of stories like this.

Whether you think he did it or not, he was found not guilty in a court of law (at least on 1 charge)...  This is a young man who lost an opportunity for a free education because of something it was ultimately determined he was not responsible for.
Even if he is able to make it on a college football field, he will always have it hanging over his head (and in google searches) that he was charged with rape.  Even after being acquitted, that cannot make it easy for him the rest of the way.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Looks like Lewis has a jury trial scheduled for September 24 on the charge that the jury was unable to come to agreement on, resulting in the mistrial.  He was charged with two counts and was acquitted on one.

Roger Lewis, a former commit in 2012, will play at Jireh Prep in North Carolina and will be able to enroll early at next school

I'll tell ya where we'll go. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talkin' bout a little place called... ATHENS.

Former Pickerington (OH) Central wide receiver Roger Lewis is now back on the recruiting radar following a plea agreement. Lewis was charged with rape as a high school senior in 2012, effectively ending his dream of playing college football. Following today's agreement he will only be charged with a misdemeanor of lying to a police officer.

After a nearly two-year process, former Pickerington Central wide receiver Roger Lewis is now free to pursue his dream of playing college football.

Lewis, who was charged with rape as a high school senior in 2012, agreed to a plea agreement and was charged with a misdemeanor of lying to a police officer. The rape charge has been dropped per the agreement.

Now enrolled and playing at Matthews (NC) Jireh Prep School, Lewis has been in contact with several Division-I schools. He was committed to Ohio State and later toOhio University as a senior before charges were brought against him.

"I'm very relieved this matter is over and I can get on with my life," Lewis stated following the court proceeding. "I'm totally free to continue my career, and the rape charge has been dismissed. I plead guilty to a falsification, which is a misdemeanor. Everything is totally over with this case."

"I'm at Jireh Prep in North Carolina and playing for them," he added. "My coach and I have been in contact with a lot of schools so far, and there are a lot of them very interested. I need to get my film sent out, so I can be evaluated. I currently have all A's in my classes, and I'm going to be fully qualified to play college football at the Division-I level, which is my dream."

Lewis will be eligible to enroll in the college of his choice in January of 2014, and he will have all his eligibility at that time. He is basically under the same guidelines as a 2014 high school graduate, and he will be considered a college freshman this coming January.

"Some of the schools I've been talking to are MichiganMichigan State, Ohio State,IllinoisUCLAAlabamaFloridaOle Miss, North Carolina, Virginia Tech,Clemson, and a lot more to be honest," Lewis reported. "I'm hoping to take official visits this fall and sign with a school later this year."

"Nobody has offered me yet, and I don't have any visits set up at this time, because these schools wanted to see my case resolved first," he continued. "I totally understand where these schools are coming from, and I just want a chance to play at the next level. I'm excited to see how things will go over the next few months. I've grown since I left high school, and I'm now 6-foot-3 and 210-pounds, with the same speed I had before. Last week, I had like nine catches for over 200-yards and played really well."

"I would say I look at my entire case as just a minor setback for a major comeback, and I look at it as a humbling situation," Lewis admitted. "I had sleepless nights and I was facing losing 22 years of my life, but I have no bitterness and I'm looking forward, not backward."

FOXSportsNEXT will continue to cover the Lewis recruitment, and will update his situation as circumstances warrant.

So, do we have a chance with this guy anymore? We weren't on the list, but he also said he doesn't have any offers yet.

Coaches remained in contact with Roger thru the whole process. They've done their homework and there is a reason Roger's whole hometown stood by him and supported him. He will have numerous big time offers to choose from again. http://t.co/JcqsNb9mcy

For whatever reason I can not post from my laptop. Anyway, I graduated from OU and cover football recruiting for 247. Ohio went to see Lewis practice a few weeks ago. He picked up an offer from Toledo yesterday. He also has an offer from Kentucky but they probably take Dorian Baker out of Cleveland for their last wide receiver in the class. He has also heard from Virginia Tech, Oklahoma and others.

Lewis WILL visit Athens this weekend for the Homecoming game against Central. He is close to wide receiver, Sebastian Smith.

I emailed 247 a month or two ago, but their list for Ohio shows "Robbier Walker" and "Rob Walker". Much as I'd like to see him recruited in duplicate, I'm pretty sure there is just one of him. You'll find a complete list of the known Freshmen verbals here.

I was working at the game today and I went to high school with Roger and Sebastian Smith. Roger was there today walking around the stadium around noon, with his good friend Marcus Milton who also went to my high school. I haven't talked to Roger, but from what I can see he's interested in coming here.

Do you know anyting out this young man?  Or  you simply the judge, jury and excutioner that comes in after the judge and jury determined tht there was no need for an executioner?

I personally do not know much about him outside of knowing the he is a really good football player that has previously put himself in some bad situations that came very close to deraling his life.  He has now been cleared of wrongdoing and has a second chance.  I personally have faith that people can learn from misakes and grow, especially at a young age like him.

Again, I am not going to pretend to know everything surrounding him, but given the number of schools that are getting back involved with him I can’t help but think that he is a good kid that had some rough times.  That feeling is only furthered by the fact that Ohio University’s football program, run by a man that I respect and trust based on everything he says he is about and everything he has shown he is about since he got to Ohio, is getting back involved.  These coaches get to know the kids they are recruiting on a very high level.  If there were red flags around this kid, there would not be so many programs getting involved again regardless of the quality of player he is on the field.

Frank Solich has done nothing in his time at Ohio to suggest he is willing to bring in kids that will compromise the integrity of the school or the university.  Has there been incidents? Yes!  However, in my mind those are a result of kids making mistakes, not coach bringing in kids that do not deserve to be provided an opportunity.

Let's give the kid the benefit of the doubt and if you don't want to give that to him, give it to Frank and the football program.  I know they have earned it!

Well said Voice of Reason. The coaches know Roger and his family VERY well I would say WAY more so than any recruit in recent memory.

Roger posted a new pic with several coaches in his living room again seems like they are doing a FULL COURT press on the young man!! His tweeter is @Primetimelewis if anyone wants to view the photo

Had another good in home visit by Ohio University. Interesting they came by again and brought there whole offensive coaching staff to show they really want me. Still have not made my decision but I thank God for even giving this opportunity. No matter what God has a plan to help me obtain my dreams and help get me to where my dream is and providing for me & my family. Thanks to all the schools that's coming to my house and showing a lot of interest they really want me. It's a Blessing to become a blessing

Per various recruiting services, he has offers from Washington, Kentucky, Akron, BG, Toledo, and FAU. On 247Sports he appears to be leaning to Kentucky. Per Rivals, he plans to visit them soon. This is an amazing Ohio recruiting class. Let's hope he ends up deciding to join the group, and makes it that much stronger.

The class took a huge hit with the Derrick Ingram de-commit but with the coaches pulling tricks like this I have faith they will bounce back. Now lets hope we can keep Chris Murray commited til Dec 2014
