I believe in innocent until proven guilty, but I highly doubt he signs any LOIs with this charge.

You know what Frank Solich likes most about coaching in the MAC? While he gets older, his coaching competition stays the same age, man.

The whole thing was too weird. You know Urban got his hands on this info and this is why he was told to look elsewhere. Now O$U is not holding the bag.

Yeah. Ohio and Solich didn't contact and pursue him at all. It was unilateral interest.

This is just...wow.... Maybe it's my Bobcat-colored glasses, but something about this just doesn't add up. Do we hold a spot for him in the hopes that he is ultimately cleared?

He may have to take a year off, but I would hold a spot in case he is cleared.

It would be a shame to see his football future go up in flames because of a wrongful claim.

If he did it, however, he obviously deserves severe punishment.

How does someone have the opportunity to commit rape with the same victim on two separate occasions several weeks apart? Am I missing something?

I'm pretty sure he could still sign a LOI from jail. Whether he can actually attend, depends not only on becoming eligible, but also on his status in this regard, too. Also, whether Ohio wants to be known as a school which has people in jail signing LOI's is also open to question.

It doesn't sound like a simple situation, and I'm sure it will take some time for the legal system to sort out.

The more I think about it, the more I think that, for the time being, we have to leave a spot for him.

As has been noted, there are some serious factual questions here, and the guy is innocent until proven guilty. Plus, he turned himself in. Rapists don't generally do that when they know they're guilty.
Who would take that spot if we don't offer it to Lewis? A 4th string QB? Unless there is another player there with the potential to take the team to the next level, I think we wait and see.
It seems like the players look to Coach Solich as a father figure (see the Boo incident...Frank was the guy called to calm the situation down.). What kind of message does it send to the players when you would pull the rug on the guy before all the facts come out?

Just my 2 cents.....

I don't think coaches pull a rug out but you cannot have him signing from jail. Ohio will have a spot if he is found not guilty. I know the kid and never been in trouble doesn't drink or smoke (70% smoke)..but a quarter million dollar bond...a date rape type case the sheriff says...Roger and this girl continued a relationship of some sort before and after she made allegations?? FISHY at the least. Let the truth come out and I'm sure things will work out for the best for all parties involved...I gotta say if he is not guilty there will be a poop storm.

Agree with 'Blitz. It's not just an issue of signing from jail, though, it's signing while facing a criminal charge. Lots of questions and maybe he'll be cleared. But it will be some time before it's all sorted out, so for now, stay away. We don't need ANY player that badly...

I think that's a level headed suggestion, blitz. Don't have him sign a LOI, but do save a spot for him.

You can't save a spot for him. I'm sorry. That is just not rational. Particularly if there is someone else deserving of it.

If it turns out this is not legit then he can try again next year.

If you think another MAC school or Marshall wont be holding a side scholly for him if we don't take him pending any positive outcome then you are delusional. Roger has all conference POY potential if he is in fact not guilty.

Sadly there are some other logistical concerns even if the charge is bogus. Being in jail isn't conducive to passing tests, getting eligible, etc. Even if he gets out on bail, I'm sure he'll be barred from all contact with the alleged victim, which, if this person goes to the same school, means he won't be allowed back at his school. How does get the core class requirement, then? He really has his work cut out for him even if he is found not guilty. I say on our end, we should show some loyalty to the guy if due diligence shows a reason to. But we have to do the due diligence the best we can.

I agree with this. Get as much info as you can, then try to make the best call you can. Show loyalty and withhold judgment on the recruit, but also take the charge seriously, and protect the university. Tough call.

Situations like this are part of why I don't think college football coaches are all that overpaid.
