What do you want from a class?

I like signing most of the guys who verbaled. Sure surprises include Alders who maybe went baseball.....and the Bedford DE who disappeared....yet we signed extra WR's and a nice DE from Bishop Hartley.

I also like surprises. We get a DB/WR in Williams who seems to get offers from everyone...oh....is he now a 3 star since he signed with us?

I like filling needs...yet my pro friends always say best player available. For us we needed DB's and DL's.....we got em.

Not that it's definitive, but I notice Krizancic's video provided by @OhioFootball on Twitter lists him as a QB (not surprising), Seymour's video lists him as WR (also not surprising), and Key's video has him at LB (the speculation was he would be a TE). Assuming he does actually sign, I think Demetrius Colbert is the only other player with some question as to position (DL or LB).

Semi-related: I'm curious to see what position all our incoming DB's end up playing... Whether it be corner or safety. A few of them seem to have the abilities to excel at either.
Defensive backs either way, just not sure which spot. I don't view five DB's as "too many" at one position either with how pass-heavy college football is now. A couple of these guys have the size to step into the box and stop the run, also...

I've seen crazier things happen.

five DB's too many? Not a chance. In fact I wish they had Seymour at CB instead of WR because I was hoping for three cornerbacks.

DB is seriously depleted, or will be in a year when five Senior DBs are gone (Bass, Layton, Wells, Jones, Macer). By 2016 the only cornerbacks left will be Fox, Brunson, and Nelson, plus these new recruits (Howell, Christian). At Safety it's more of the same, if not worse. By 2016 the only Safeties left will be Toran Davis, Blake Scipio, and Corey Quallen, plus the three in this class (Williams, Williams, and Hagen).

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see one or two of these Safety recruits on the field next fall.

As for other things, I'll be happier when Colbert shows up on the official list. As Mike said, his form probably needs a guardian signature, or something.

As for Najee Stevens-McKenzie, I still wonder what happened, but my best guess from reading twitter comments is that once he committed, he failed to finish out his academic work, and was not on track to qualify, and that Key was a late replacement for him in the class. Perhaps we will see Stevens-McKenzie again next year after a year in prep school, or in a couple years after Juco.

Ted. You are showing Mr. Colbert as signed. Neither the University or Messenger have him listed with the recruits. Please tell me he is signed and they are just omitting him.

He has signed. All I was told is that were "some issues" that need to be resolved. I don't know if that means paperwork issues, grade issues or what.

Five guys from Florida this year counting Provitt is significant when you've have only 3 guys from Florida currently on the roster. After Ohio the state of Florida should be our #2 recruiting state every year. Its home to the most recruits overall and its more of a free agent situation than in Texas where there is a zillion schools that play scholarship football so players tend to stay home. The best in-state recruiting class in the Sunshine state doesn't always go to one school. It could be Florida, Florida State or Miami Fl. That is what Louisville's program has been built on. Excellent Florida recruiting while UK not so much.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

Wes, I think you are absolutely right on with a Florida connection. We just have to do a better job in that state in my opinion. I am very happy to see some 3-star types from FL coming OUr way!

Closer to home, Marshall has done a good job in Florida as well. Lots if players down there for sure.

Time will tell. Will they all report? How many will stay four/five years. Mining highly rated recruits long distance is tricky. Tremayne Scott, Lavon Brazill, Daz Patterson, Travis Carrie all show the staff screens carefully those they bring in from far away. A recent article on the Seahawks and Patriots points out how they succeed by "finding hidden gems."

"The starting lineup for Super Bowl 49 will not feature any five-star recruits. In fact, when you look at the rosters, both teams lack former high school superstars and players that played in college powerhouses. The Seahawks' starting lineup had an average rating of 2.4, while Patriots' had 2.3, according to 247Sports."

Bcat, part of this shows the difference between college and pro football. Another part is the kids who mature later while in college. Look at Leavitt two years outta high school and Bama and Kansas State offered. In high school he was unrated with only MAC offers (guys who saw potenntial). My point on that is it is just dag gone difficult to find enough diamonds in the rough (NR, 2-star and walk ons) to win Championships.

I would still maintain that if you look at those top schools (#1-#50)the vast majority of their signees are 3-star with a smattering of 4&5 star guys. For example, I believe the OSwhos only 2-star recruit was a long snapper. all their other recruits were 3-4-5 star guys with the majority being 3-stars.

Marshall is the King of Non Qualifiers. That is no model for us to follow. The model is to go head to head with Cincinnati as we've done lately and eventually Louisville and West Virginia. Top 50 class and beyond eventually.

I was talking about recruiting Florida, not talking about non qualifiers. Whole different subject. Apparently the Big 10 allows non qualifiers as does the MAC and apparently the number is limited. Just another Marshall slam I guess.

Charles Smith from Toledo Central Catholic lists himself as a 2015 Ohio University commit in his profile. Maybe a walk-on or grayshirt? 6'-1" 195 SS or OLB.

Well Bcat2, if they averaged 2.4 that means about half may be 2 star guys and half 3 star guys. If we CONSISTENTLY had half our recruits as 3 star guys I would be very happy. In my opinion, you still just cannot get enough 2 star/NR diamond in the ruff type guys that pan out at the same time to win Championships!
