915,000 is pretty good

League minimum, I think.

1 Year player minimum is $870K

Found this on one site: "For the 2024-25 season, the rookie minimum salary will increase to $795,000, while the veteran minimum salary will increase to $915,000."

So, it looks like he's getting the minimum for a "veteran." Not sure exactly how he qualifies as veteran, but maybe because he was called up off the practice squad at the end of last season.

He’s not a veteran, it’s a negotiated contract that he signed. A player does not reach “veteran status” on the negotiated agreement until they have 4 years of accredited service. And that $915,000 would be the figure for a 4 year veteran, as that minimum slides up with each year of service credit. Nathan has some marketability and interest so not hard to not negotiate that level, especially when the only thing that would be guaranteed would be any signing bonus he got.

Contract puts him on team for offseason - needs to make the final roster to get the actual dollars (players do not get checks in offseason). Was probably given a small amount as signing bonus to keep him buying groceries. Will be interesting who else they sign and draft (will take QB in 1st round who will slot in above him on depth chart)

Correct.

Has his work cut out for him.

Once they get Drake Maye in the building, he's gonna get all the reps, all the attention.

They could always trade McCorkle, but Rourke always seems to be one-step behind the depth chart shuffle.

The problem for Rourke is there is no such thing as competition for playing time anymore. There are franchise QBs and QBs drafted to become franchise QBS, along with veteran backups to help (but not challenge) those two groups. Many teams don't keep a QB3 on the active roster. It seems like if you are not the anointed one on the team you need to bounce around until injuries give you an opportunity--or make you old enough to not be a threat to the franchise QB.

True, because teams have $$$ money invested in those picks which makes it much harder for players like Rourke

I honestly think the advanced ages of these new age QB's could help, as well as some backups playing well. So maybe the stigma is less. But it's going to be an uphill battle for sure.

Nate is 25.
(Kurtis will be 24 next season)

Will Levis is 24.
Hendon Hooker is 26.
Jayden Daniels is 23.
Penix is 23.
Bo Nix is 24.
Sam Hartman is 24.

The Pats just shipped Mac Jones to the Jags for a first round pick in the upcoming draft. They also have the #2 pick overall, so they're expected to draft a QB in the first round. With Hones gone Nathan should move up for this season but if the Pats get another QB it doesn't bode well for the long term. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2024/03/10/mac-...

I think that the Broncos and Patriots are in such bad shape that they shouldn't draft a 1st round QB. It is setting them up to fail. Get a late round QB and take a shot with him or someone like Rourke. If it doesn't work you draft high again with more pieces. They won't do that but sometimes the situation is bad enough that you should

Because of the Wilson deal, the Broncos can’t draft high, they don’t have an high picks left

Right, I think that's all the more reason to not draft a QB in the first round.

A *SIXTH round pick.

So a 1st round rookie QB isn't as open and shut. Although a new coach always wants to get in there and get his guy, but maybe none of these are his guy? They have to nail this pick, and if Marvin Harrison is there.... no brainer. They could also trade down, because they've got quite a few holes.

Right now the Patriots only have 2 QBs on the roster, so Rourke is currently the backup to Zappe. There is no chance that they won't add at least 1-2 other QBs to the roster by fall. Will it be a high draft? A low draft? A trade? An UDFA? I have no idea, but for Rourke to earn a position on the final roster, there is no doubt that he will have to earn it by beating out one or two others.

Just read ON CBS Sports that the Patriots may be trying to sigh Washington free agent QB Jacoby Brissett. He was drafted by the Patriots in the 3rd round of the 2016 draft.

He qualifies as both the one year stopgap while we rebuild and the second-string buddy to "the guy we drafted to be our franchise QB." depending on which it is probably Zappe vs Rourke for a roster spot or a back-up job.
