Can you blame him? Texas kid choosing TCU vs Ohio LOL

There are so many potential factors, it's not for us to second guess a players choice. Some potential factors:
1. Which team pays more NIL money?
2. Which team is in a better conference?
3. Which team is in a better climate?
4. At which team does he have a better chance of starting?
5. Where does he feel more comfortable with the coaches?
6. Which team is going to have better players around him, giving him a better chance of looking good?

As a Texan, his choice is not surprising. We can wish him well in his future endeavors, and find someone else. Navarro will be fine, but Ohio does need another QB or two on the roster by spring.

This. My mantra for next year is "Feed Ricky"!

Plus I think McCormick will be a good RB2.

McCormick will be better than a good RB2, he’ll be more of a RB1-B. He runs with power and can truck guys will good speed. He reminds me of AJ Ouellette.

Absolutely agree. I believe he spent most of the season hurt, but he runs stronger UTM than Bangura or Allison. We missed him in several short yardage situations this year.

We had a late trade with O$U so why not.

Can’t find fault in any of their decisions. Each one of these schools improved by adding these guys. I heard it through the grapevine that a number of guys who entered the portal this year had considered to do it last year, but the decided to run it back one more year to try and win the MAC. It didn’t happen. But now these guys are all off to play at the highest level of FBS football. I can’t blame them one bit and many people would do the exact same thing if in their shoes. Good for them! I hope they all do well and I’ll be pulling for them.

You've got to give these players credit for hanging together for one more year to make that effort. Sadly, they didn't get the job done, partially because Ohio had a negative turnover ratio against Miami. Sometimes the breaks go in your favor, sometimes not. In any case, Ohio was 8-0 this year with a neutral or better turnover ratio, while they were 1-3 with a negative turnover ratio, including losses to San Diego State, Miami, and NIU. Of those three, the one game that mattered was Miami.

Based on the bowl game, the cupboard is not bare. It will be ironic indeed if a group of younger players are able to accomplish what the departed players were unable to. Breaks tend to even out over time, and hopefully the turnovers will run in Ohio's favor against Miami this year. If one believes in the gambler's fallacy, obviously that will happen. ;)

A lot will depend on the defense again-and who will be coaching it.

Interestingly, the MAC seems to be down lately in terms of coaches being hired away. Sean Lewis is one who was hired, but I don't see any evidence that the most successful head coaches, Candle and Martin, are going anywhere, nor their staffs. Those things tend to be cyclical, however, and in a few years we may see a bunch of MAC coaches moving.

Candle seems much more likely to be hired away than Martin based on body of work, but Martin helped his stock immensely last year. For us, I’d be surprised if Spence isn’t hired away. Not sure what happened at Miami to land him here, but it worked for 2 years anyway.

I remember hearing that Spence and Albin were very good friends before the hire and that's how it came about.

Wish it was keeping the TE and adding Gundy, but every once in a while gotta be a humanitarian and make a fair trade.

Excited for our guys going elsewhere, and twice as excited to see the guys coming in. Definitely seem to be mining hard for players to get.

I would think getting a QB from a big program would make recruiting WR’s and TE’s a little easier. Also, when was the last time we had a lefty at QB?

So are Albin and Gundy friends from days back in Oklahoma?

I did a quick article search. Apparently, Gundy interviewed to be OC for Solich at Nebraska. He took his name out of consideration when Les Miles signed an extension at OK St and convinced him to stay. Talk about good career moves. Albin was a Grad assistant with the Huskers at that time.

I would temper expectations a bit. Gunnar was a zero-star recruit. Non-scholarship player.

Always good to get guys from big programs who are winners, probably has a strong work ethic being a coaches son, hard worker trying to prove himself that he belongs, etc... but I don't expect him to push Navarro - who we just saw excel in a bowl game, will have three years in the program.

These days having a capable back-up is as good as gold.

To be fair to him, his dad made tons of money from the school and they likely offered a tuition benefit for children of employees so it made no sense to take a scholarship, and according to this article he had scholarship offers from Eastern Michigan and Toledo out of High School.

Nice to see the Oklahoma pipeline active again. He follows in the footsteps of Tettleton and Blankenship.

His senior team scored 58 points a game and he was all state big-city schools in ok. He’s probably not too bad. We shall see.
