In my mind the fate of the rest of the season rests on this game. If we win, it'll be a great confidence booster and we could go on to have a winning season. If we lose, I fear we are looking at Cleve Bryant/Papa L type season.

This is a winnable game, but we are going to have to show up and play with pride and the staff will have to be up for the challenge. CMU has won a couple of games so far (FIU and Robert Morris University) while losing to Missouri, LSU and Fiami. They are beatable and this is the type of game we should be winning. Go Bobcats!

If OUr defense shows up.

If we pick the right QB.

If we remove stupid penalties.

If the kicking game continues to improve.

8/15 for 60 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT - Ohio's total passing stats last game.

That's 4 yards per passing attempt for those who needed help with the math.

Excuse me if I'm not super jazzed up about a win over Akron, but Ohio did what they needed to do. Pound the ball on the ground and just win the game, but I'm pumping the brakes on "improvement" until they beat a team with a pulse.

The reason I bring this up is because CMU is 28th in the nation in fewest rushing yards allowed per game and 118th in passing yards allowed. If Ohio has any chance at winning, they're gonna have to get SOMETHING done through the air. Miami had two QBs throw for 170+ yards, relatively efficient plus 4 TDs. Rourke and Rogers will need to be similar.

Perhaps I should clarify myself. In a "normal" year this is the type of game we should be winning. I too am not on the "we have improved" bandwagon either. My point is that this is basically the same staff that has been here for years, who recruited, trained and coached all of our players and who have run this program for a long time. Hence that is why I am stating that we "should" win this game. Sadly, I have very little confidence this staff can get the job done. However, CMU is not that great of a team and it is games like this that I expect we should win. No excuses, if we truly have a great team/staff then prove it on the field by winning these types of games.

Yep.

I and about a half dozen of my high school and college buddies will be at the game in force.

They have RVs and we do a Lake Snowden weekend.

IF I thought those iwere insurmountable ifs we’d stay in camp.

Agreed. While OOC was a disaster, we can still cling onto MAC play... That goes out the window with a loss on Saturday...

I've seen crazier things happen.

Is this spread right, CMU -5.5.
Help me understand how last week, for an away game, we were favored by 9.5, to a team as bad as us and this week we are getting 5.5, at home, against a team that is 0-1 in league and 2-3 totally?
Make no sense to me, HELP!

I will only say this: take a given day of college football point spreads, and see how close Vegas gets to the actual. It's pretty frequent.

And if we can overcome the CMU curse -- 5-26-1 all time, 1-9 in the Solich era, including two MACCG losses, last win was 2011 43-28 at Mt. Unpleasant, last win at Peden was 2000, 52-3.

Nathan has to throw downfield better to get the WRs involved. Against Akron he had just one completion of more than seven yds, the 34-yarder to Walton. Beyond that, the biggest gainer to a WR was the pass interference call on the throw to Cox. Three of his seven completions were to a RB (Allison) and two of those were for negative yardage. We haven't seen a lot of downfield passing from Armani, but if they can work on that with him he could be very dangerous.

The running game started gelling when Ohio ran inside to the left and outside to the right. Jackson and Ramer (I think) along with Titsworth were opening big holes on the left side. A couple of times Tuggle got into the hole, then bounced right for big gainers. The right side of the line was good at sealing off the outside and that helped the speed option to work.

The defense came up huge in the second half. Houston had a big game and made a diving tackle over another Ohio player that prevented a big gainer for Akron. It was good seeing Evans and Daxon getting after their QBs. I realize it was Akron but the change from the first 36 minutes to the last 24 was very apparent. They'll need to play a qualtiy 60 minutes this week.

I agree with those who think that this game will be a pivotal point of the season. CMU had a close loss at Mizzou, so they could easily be above water. Their loss at MofO last week could be a blueprint for our gameplan this week.

I was surprised that Ohio covered the spread at Akron and that Vegas was within a FG on the over/under.

I think Vegas is looking at CMU at 28th in 1A in rushing defense so they can shut down the heart of our offense. And while we're 16th in 1A in pass defense, its only because teams like NWern ran all over us (our rushing defense is 127th, giving up 249 yds per game). CMU's only a so-so rushing team (78th, 151 ypg) but unless our defense plays like they did last week the Chips could come out looking better than they are.

If I were to power rank the MAC, I'd put CMU at 10 and us at 11. They had a close loss to Mizzou, but also lost to FIU who just got pasted by FAU (our week 1 opponent next year).

CMU routinely clowns us even in their mediocre years, a few times on our Homecoming. Winning this one would go a long way towards salvaging the season and exorcising a demon.

The MAC in this week's Sagarin rankings (includes all D1 teams):

1. WMU 76.77 (38th)
2. Toledo 72.69 (61st)
3. Kent 67.53 (81st)
4. BSU 67.44 (82nd)
5. Buffalo 66.57 (88th)
6. NIU 65.58 (95th)
7. MOFO 63.55 (102nd)
8. EMU 63.43 (103rd)
9. CMU 60.71 (112th)
10. BG 57.69 (126th)
11. Ohio 56.59 (132nd)
12. Akron 44.19 (186th)

Of course, this takes into consideration NIU's win over GaTech, BG's win over Minn and Toledo's close loss to ND, none of which gave those MAC teams much of an actual bump because all three lost (and badly, in the case of Toledo) the following week.

You just gonna hate on WOUB stuff every week until athletics hires a staff? Maybe you should reach out to Michael Rodriguez and let him know you know exactly how to fix the audio and you personally are going to buy them new cameras and microphones to fix their issue.

I get what ExVideoCat is saying, but I have to agree. We want to be an FBS school and a top MAC program we need to start acting like it.
