The Phillies and Blue Jays both closed their facilities today and Clemson announced 28 positive tests amongst student athletes.

After a month of optimism about fall sports (and the return of professional sports), the last week's casted some doubt. Oddly, Texas, Florida and Arizona are seeing the biggest spikes despite the warm weather.

No worries, we’ve not tested yet. The bigger issue is getting athletes to quarantine themselves and not be out and have visitors.

According to an article in The Post yesterday,O.U. will close the campus on November 20.

The rest of the semester will be done remotely.

Don't what this means for Fall and Winter sports.

If the campus is closed a few days before Thanksgiving, that is what many schools are doing.

I've seen that.

I presume closing down the campus includes athletic facilities.

So what happens to fall and winter sports ?

Considering this seems to be the evolving norm (Notre Dame, tosu), the games will go on.

Regular season games,maybe.

What about conference championships and bowls ?

If the campuses and athletic facilities are closed, where do teams stay
and practice.

Same with the basketball and wrestling teams.
What happens to them ?

Especially if the campus stays closed to February.

The governor has thrown water on fans attending the Hall of Fame Game. That’s not looking good for actual football, with that only being 1 months away.

Considering the outbreaks at Clemson (28 players and athletics staff) and LSU (1/4 of the football roster), schools will have to do an extremely good job of sanitizing. Look for just about every team to have a sizeable chunk of their schedules cancelled.

If there is NO college football, do you lay off your staff or do you pay a million or millions to keep them on? That is not an OHIO question but a question for all programs across the country.

Depends on what's in their contracts. There may be some force majeure clause that spells out what can and can't be done.

Why not the unemployment line? It's not like many other schools could stock pile them and pay them to not coach--everyone would be in the same boat.

There's potential for some jerry-rigged matchups that could actually be intriguing if these FCS games don't happen. For example, a 9th conference game that counts as a non-league game is very plausible for some schools depending on how many other leagues drop games (even though it looks less promising for a season).

I am beginning to doubt we will have a season. All it will take is one MAC team to report an outbreak during camp. This could be an ugly fall - seems like a serious second wave is unavoidable given our piss poor approach to the virus.

It's truly shocking that "pretend it's over" has become the federal response here. As a business owner with a very uncertain future in front of me, I don't think I can recall a time where the government's failed me more obviously.

WMU could schedule a game with Army to make up for the Colgate game. Both play Patriot teams that weekend that could be affected by the league's protocols.

True - WMU would have to give up a home game and be comfortable traveling (and get compensated for the travel by Army) - but creative solutions I'm sure will be considered.

Are you sure that's true about LSU? I read an article about them yesterday, but it didn't mention anything about that big of an outbreak on that team.

We may not have to worry about social distancing if the MAC adopts this.

Paul Finebaum said yesterday that while we have heard about Texas and Clemson, he said he has heard behind the scenes that there are a considerable number of schools that have been hit by the virus but have not been transparent with the information. Said that parents are starting to demand information and action - which will cause the news to come out.
