I wanted to get one, but the place was sealed up like a drum. Didn't want any crazed football fanatic getting inside and committing a phototerroristic act.

I drove by there yesterday...was picking up my granddaughter from south green...doesn’t look like much progress...as she said looks like they’ve been working on it forever.

Hmm . . . looks to me like its going up rather quickly. I kind of thought that they might be a little ahead of schedule. But, maybe I'm wrong. They only started construction less than four months ago,

The projected completion by this fall has now been pushed back. Not sure what the new delays are caused by.

Do you know where they "posted" this ?

I believe this was "design/build",so I'm not surprised.

I would think the "shell" and, mechanicals were pretty straight forward.

But, when you start getting into the building's interior, especially depening on how much "input" you have to deal with, there are a lot of things that have to be "hashed out".

I think its important to have to the exterior finished by the fall,so people get a good idea of what the final product will look like.

This is just what the players were told. I don't know if it was posted anywhere, or if an official statement was given.

Did anyone think it would be completed by the start of the fall semester ? I sure didn’t. Things never move that fast in a public situation and most likely not private either.

Some on here are not going to like this quote from the article:

"If anyone thinks Solich, now 73, is thinking about retirement, then they haven’t talked to him lately."

I also found this quote interesting:

"And maybe none of the enhancements — those already in place and those to come — would be tangible without Solich’s involvement. He headed fund-raising efforts, he tapped old friends, and even offered up his own finances to get things done in the Ohio program."

I had gotten some hint of this over the local grapevine, but this is the first time I've seen it in print. I'm not surprised at all that Solich has this level of commitment to the program. What he's done for the program is more than just wins and losses on the field, though that has been a major upgrade in and of itself. Go OHIO!

When Frank was just starting out at O.U.,it was his first or second season, my wife and I met one of his relatives,I believe an uncle,at a football game.

We started talking and he told us that Frank was there to "build a program".
He said to give it a few years and you won't believe what the football program will look like.

If they leave it like this for the entire fall, we could just throw industrial-themed rooftop parties up there during games.

Ugh.... When are they going to finally get rid of those ugly corner bleachers, and actually add something that is attached to the grand stands and wraps around the entire endzone or attaches to both the grand stand and the new Sook Center? Peden Stadium will always look busch league until those are removed and the better seating is added.

I agree too but I don’t think Ohio’s Administration particularly cares how Peden looks. They will always only spare the bare minimum to keep it operational. I just don’t think Peden’s very high on the Administration’s priority list. And given the emphasis to schedule weekday games that only draw 10,000-15,000 max anyway, which is now unfortunately a majority of home games on the schedule, I just don’t foresee the Administration’s opinions changing any time soon.

$7 million ought to do it. Will you be writing a check?

LOL! I didn't realize it was my responsibility. Where did the $7 million dollar figure come from? If that's all it takes, maybe you are on to something. Perhaps they should be looking to fund stadium improvements (and everyone knows they are needed) through private donations. With excitement for football at a high, especially after last season's success and the bowl victory, maybe now would be the time to start fundraising for these types of improvements. I was thinking it would have made more sense to tie in enhancing the end zone seating with the Sook Center fundraising monies. Those stands make the aesthetics of the new building go down a notch. Just my two cents.

Some on here are probably don't want to see these quotes either:

“We’ve been good, but I don’t think we’re satisfied,”

“Being in the top 25 is a goal. Winning the MAC Championship, and doing it with some regularity, is a goal. That’s what this program needs to strive for now."

“We don’t have to have a goal of necessarily winning six or seven or eight games. We need to have the goal of getting to the places where it’ll take care of itself. We’ve been to bowls with regularity, we expect that to keep going. We’re looking beyond that. What can we do to raise the level of this program to get there.”

I think it's great that these all come from Solich. People make similar comments like this on this very message board and get slammed for wanting more and not being satisfied with 8-5 seasons that end with a Bahamas Bowl win.

I don't think anyone on this board doesn't want more, and I don't think anyone gets slammed for wanting more. There were and are certain people who dwell on it and nothing else matters. There are people who seem to have no concept of just how difficult it is to get what they are seeking. That's what gets annoying.

I believe those people were getting slammed for trying to lay the blame on Solich/recruiting/talent/scheduling/etc for not reaching those goals yet. Not for being "unsatisfied" and wanting to acheive more. We all want to win a championship. Including our head coach. But all the constant negativity by said people following any loss incured by the team is what people get tired of hearing. I think some of us are rooted in reality and happy for the direction the program is headed. Others think we should be the power house of the G5 and ranked in the top 20 or we need to fire our coach. I don't expect this to change even after we win a MACC. Some people just need to win at all costs regardless of the consequences and refuse to see all the positive aspects of the program and where it's at. If we were as good as some of us wanted, then there would most likely be something unethical going on which would lead to scandal and embarrasment for the team and the university. I don't feel like that would be a good trade off for a MACC. I would rather do it the right way...the way our present coach is doing it. And I'm confident that he can.

Performance does the talking. Last year's offensive output of 40ppg and a 2nd team all-MAC QB renders the traditional concerns moot. We've not had that in the program until last year, real evidence that we are Solich is running a top tier program. 2013-14 were rebuilding years for us. 13-12 in those two seasons. There was good grounds for fans wanting something better in that time period. The last 3 seasons have been better but some were not able to give up the bitterness over the 2013-14 years.

Capacity is bumping up to 27,000 once Sook is done which is greater than our record crowd. The throttle point for the program isn't the stadium its the hotel situation. Hotel situation is a throttle for growth of the entire university. Athens hotel #12 was just announced this week which helps but the region could use a few high end brands to keep the price of the economy brands in check.

Where exactly did you get that figure? That place will not have capacity for 3000 people.

That is true. The 27,000 proposed capacity on wiki I believe is SRO. Remember New Mexico State game back in 2012 with 25.9k and fans turned away? The athletic authorities probably thought that was all we could handle with the limited bathrooms in place. We promote the baseball stadium as 4,000 capacity when its 1,500 and standing room only so listing Peden at 27,000 when there are only 21,800 actual seats (trust me I counted) is not beyond the athletic department. That would take the listed capacity of Peden into the middle tier of the MAC as far as stadium capacities go and no longer in the lower tier.
