NOW THIS IS THE PROVERBIAL MUST WIN GAME!

Not that I'm anywhere near the team, but I get the impression this OHIO squad definitely has their eye on the prize and knows full well what's in front of them. I expect the Bobcats to be fired up and ready to play Tuesday night. This team is healthy (mega crossing of my fingers, knocking on wood, etc.) and is peaking at the right time. And I think its now safe to say OHIO has a MAC-elite QB, which might be the most important ingredient necessary to win the MAC. The pasting of Toledo, and most importantly the way Ohio beat Toledo makes me a believer.

GO BOBCATS!!!!

Would be one of the most crushing losses of Solich era if they drop this one for sure

While Miami is our traditional rival, I dislike Akron a lot more. I hope this is version 2.0 of what the Cats did to Kent a few weeks ago. Continue the stifling defense and let Rourke be free so we can all be in Detroit.

Just line up and run the ball. Nothing fancy, just enough through the air to keep Akron honest on D. Protect the ball. They're giving up 4.9 yds per attempt. We can raise that number. 2nd half dominance is the formula.

Honestly, looking at their stats sheet, I don't see how their record is as good as it is...a lot of interceptions maybe?

They are two points away from being 3-7 (2-4). They were outplayed by both WMU and Buffalo, but won both by one point.

Does anyone know the story on Woodson? Will he be back against Ohio?

Ohio will have to deal with the noise in Infocision, and a hostile crowd.

I think Bowden's press conference was at 1 PM. Waiting for it to appear on YouTube so I can watch it. I imagine that would be addressed. Akron also lost RB Sands during the Miami game. Didn't look like he would be back anytime soon.

Bowden addresses Woodson right away. Says he's not going to make an announcement at this time.

This is a game where we have to avoid a letdown. There was a lot of emotion on the field from the seniors last night, and it really showed. They wanted their last home game to be a big blowout over a top-drawer MAC team and they got it. Now they have a short week to prep for a Tuesday road game. I hope they've already put last night behind them and are focused on Akron.

Don’t see it as a letdown.....this game and that one on a Saturday in December are the games of the year.

It is always great to get that extra home game every other year.

It's hard to think there would be a let down based on how everything came together and the entire team appeared so cohesive and motivated.
They seem to project a special season is about to come to fusion.
I am of the mind set that our boys could win these next 4 game and end the season at 12-2.
They were so dialed in that I believe Frank will maintain that emotion and confidence.

I don't see how this game is a letdown. Now, Buffalo, if we beat Akron, could be. That wouldn't shock me.

We are talking about Akron - of course they will lift suspensions and allow their players to play.

As I've said, channeling my inner Joe Namath, Buffalo is a guaranteed win.  Frank is 3-0 on my birthday, and he won't let me down this year.  Us 1944 guys stick together.  It's kind of a War Baby pack! winkblushyes

On paper, this game should not be close. Akron is giving up the second most yards/game in the league, at 441 yards/game, and second most first downs/game. Their offense is anemic, at 324.8 yards a game and 21.8 points a game. They are last in the MAC in rushing offense, and middle of the pack in passing offense, and near last in time of possession. Their pass efficiency and pass defense efficiency are both in the lower middle of the MAC. Their special teams don't look good, either, ranking them low in punting, and at the bottom in punt returns, and near the bottom in kickoff coverage, plus last in field goal percentage.

So, how is Akron challenging for the East? Smoke and mirrors? First, when the games have been close, they have come out on top, beating WMU 14-13, and Buffalo 21-20. Second, they have a positive turnover ratio. Most importantly, they have had a good red zone defense, giving up TDs less than half the time in the red zone.

Ohio has been very successful in the red zone, while Akron has been good at red zone defense. If Ohio can continue to punch the ball into the endzone, Ohio should win easily. In the last couple years, however, Akron has been much better than other teams in the MAC at stopping Ohio's offense. The last few years:
2016 Ohio 9, Akron 3 (season low points for Ohio)
2015 Ohio 14, Akron 12 (tie for season low for Ohio)
2014 Ohio 23, Akron 20

My conclusion is that Chuck Amato will have a sound defensive plan for Ohio. I'm sure he has a good idea how to stop the option, unlike some of the younger defensive coordinators in the MAC. I doubt Ohio will break 40 this game, but I think that in the end, Ohio is the better team, and they will win this one, but it won't be a cakewalk.

Elton has a little more on Woodson's suspension. It appears as thought it may have been an athletic department suspension.

Link: http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/index.ssf/2017/11/akron_qb_tommy_woodsons_status.html

Excerpt:

Woodson's availability for Tuesday has not been announced, but indications are he will be available to play. When Akron AD Larry Williams was asked if Woodson's suspension was imposed by the athletic department -- indicating a school policy suspension with possible incremental game losses -- or at coach Terry Bowden's discretion, Williams said, "I can't comment on that."

But Williams later added: "At some point it (Woodson's availability to play) all will be a coach's decision, ultimately."

Based on the photo from this thread, the Bobcat faithful could outnumber a disillusioned and understandably frustrated Zips fan base. Who's in? I'm in +3. This game is bigger than Toledo.

If you can't make it to Akron for weeknight MACtion, will you commit to 12-2-2017 in Detroit assuming we take care of business on Tuesday? I'm assuming we will meet Toledo again in Detroit and don't want to be in a stadium that's 3/4 full of opposing fans like we were last year.

I will commit absolutely, with 100% certainty, that I will NOT be anywhere near Detroit on championship weekend, and I’m even considering vacating the timezone for that day. I say that having attended the MACC game in 2006, 2009, and 2011, as well as the 2009 bowl game (we’re also 0-1 in games I’ve attensed this year). IF we make the game, I feel like my staying well away from Ford Field at the very least gives us a chance.

If we beat Akron, Buffalo doesn't matter. We'll have the East sewn up. If that happens, let 'em have a letdown in Buffalo.

Akron has won this year by playing stingy D and not turning over the ball. It'll be a game of field position. The O line needs to step up again this week.
