The place will still look like a high school football stadium, only dilapidated. Can't believe the poor condition of the place.

No. There is a lot of space in the endzone that is part of the stadium without seats. Its 5,000 between the corner seats and another 2,500 in front that isnt filled in. The stadium footprint with Sook will be a 34,000 seat horseshoe with 30,000 SRO capability. It will be a decent presentation for recruits.

That bad? It does need some paint. It's going to be light years from the Peden Ping had at the start of his tenure. I like how Sook isn't going to be a building at the stadium as the case in most of the MAC but integrated into the stadium. Miami built a football operations building at the stadium taking out seats in the process. Home stands at Miami are 30 years old so the new football ops is not architecturally consistent. Sook will make Peden look more finished than it does with the gap between the corner seats.

What is the projected start and completion date of this? I can't remember if, or where, that has been published.

Groundbreaking ceremony mid September. That's all I know. I would guess completion by January 2019?

Great - so we'll have 18 months of protests and complaining. Can't wait. :(

I was there last fall camp when essentially nobody else was there and looked the place over pretty good. Cracked concrete, rusty pipes. Antiquated restrooms and concessions. Dark concourses under stands. Man it's old, but it's ours.

I'm sorry, but the place needs a lot more than a little paint. Now we'll have gaps between Sook and the flying bleachers. Even more fragmented IMO.

If they were gonna wait for groundbreaking this September, why not, at this point, wait until after Homecoming at least? Seems like this should have been started as early in the spring as possible, and under roof by Homecoming. the timing seems odd to me.

Timing of construction projects around here is always odd. They were supposed to repave East State Street this summer. Now it looks like it won't start until fall or spring -- probably just in time for student move-in or move-out. Maximum confusion and disruption is the motto.

Part of the Athens County charm I suppose. It just seems like waiting until after Homecoming, at this point, makes more sense.

Having gone by/through briefly on a couple trips south this summer, the US 33 projects are going to make move in weekend and the first football weekend traffic patterns "fun" as well. Thankfully, those of us coming from Columbus have options to take some two lanes and enjoy the scenery.

No matter the actual start date, I would think completion would be scheduled for the start of a football season. I can't imagine the 2018 season is realistic. August of 2019 maybe?

The schedule depends a lot on getting the outer "shell" done.
Once the outside is weather tight you can go like gang busters on the interior.

East State/Bicycle Street was always slated to be paved this fall. Believe me, those of us on the east side who tried to stop the bike lanes have been involved with this every step of the way. Unfortunately our council person let us down and the folks in city hall would not listen.

If it takes until fall camp of 2019 to open that will back up the player's lounge renovation until 2020. These facilities really are preparing for life after Solich not with. With the naming of Burrow Associate HC this year he might be thinking succession plan.

So you are saying they actually planned it for when the students are here rather than the lighter traffic summer months? Proves my point. Maximum confusion and disruption is the byword in City Hall.

True, which is why groundbreaking in the fall is perplexing.

Yeah, they're not really accurate. The building will be curved to match the curvature of the stands, and the model doesn't reflect that. There will be less gap on each side between the building and stands as well, I believe. I think it's going to be a huge aesthetic upgrade to Peden.

New Sook Center picture in the season ticket booklet shows curvature and building around Drew Park instead of relocating it.
