Keep Hagan and Zervos engaged. Don't let the freshman all-american status go to their heads. Hagan needs to watch more video and read just a little better and get a step faster and Zervos needs to improve his range. Both players need to continue to grow, both have NFL potential.
Safety wise, I can see Mitchell playing right away with the loss of Hardy and Davis. Mayne Williams may move back to the safety position, he is a playmaker. That may be the strongest postition on the team. The growth of Hagan and the emergence of Williams and Mitchell will be the key. Kylan Nelson may move back as well. He needs to tackle better, he missed on three blitzes last year. He has speed, but does he have the tools to make plays. We will see.
The kicking game was great, let's hope we don't kick as many field goals. We need to make sure that Zervos keeps progressing. We have hadgreat kickers who tailed off like Weller and Kerr, both should have been kicking in the NFL, let's make sure Zervos gets there. Farkas is great at ball placement and hang time. he will need to improve his range. He may one day reach Zadustil status. Zadustil got better an better and was rewarded with a 10 year NFL career.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

They've been using Farkas for kick-offs so, apparently, his range is better than Zervos. In watching Farkas' kicks, he's got pretty good range, dropping it inside the 5 most times, and getting a touchback maybe 20 percent of the time (wild guess). Increasing touchbacks would be nice, but you never know when he's being coached to sky kick or go deep.

I would think it's Zervos they would be pressuring to improve his range. However, that can be a double-edge sword as improving range can sometimes damage accuracy.

We've had good kicking lately but I'm not sure that any of our guys is yet near NFL ability.

It's not a knock on our guys. It's just that the field goal kickers and punters in the NFL are really terrific.

That and the longevity of kickers and punters in the NFL compared to other positions is so great it's hard for college kickers and punters to even get a sniff. You almost have to be one of those automatic kickers like Aguayo from Florida State to even be mentioned.

And even Aguayo had a pretty poor NFL rookie season. But you're right, every team only has one kicker and one punter in the NFL, so there's only a few rookies each year at those positions.

That and the punting aspect of the NFL is quite a bit different than college. Much less emphasis on distance and much more on hang-time, placement and speed.
