He needs to settle down and our wide receivers have to create separation and give him some big windows. He has great arm strength and athleticism. He looked a little panicked at times. I would not give up on him at this point. Nate Rourke has a decent arm and seems to be accurate when given time. he may need some psychological counselling after playing behind that horrible line at Fort Scott. He needs to come in and learn the system quickly and get his timing down with the receivers. He is not the athlete that Maxwell is, but plays at a higher level. Can he play in the MAC? Can he adjust to the speed of the game? Drew Keszei, I love this guy, he does everything well. he has the full package, he has moxi. Can he recover from his ankle injury? Can he take punishment at 187 pounds? Tim Albin will have to create some wrinkles to maximize these players talents. he cannot be a predictable play caller or an ultimately conservative game management. Teams will try to put eight in the box and blitz, he needs to make defenses pay and take one or two out the box to free up our running game. Against toledo, we took so many shots in the first half that the defense had to respect the pass and Dorian Brown was able to show his 4.4 speed and get 200 yards Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Vs Toledo, Ohio ran 48 time and attempted only 22 passes. However on the 11 completions there was an average of 22 yards per with Maxwell hitting Belack for a 57 yd TD, White for a 25 yd TD and Windham hit Smith for a 33 yd TD. White also had a 37 yd reception not for a TD. Brown avgd 7 on 29 rushes, White avgd 10.8 on 5 rushes, Maxwell gained 41 while also losing 56 rushing. With all that Toledo still outgained Ohio 560 to 512 total yards. Result Ohio 31, Toledo 26. So, if I had a headset game plans would be a balance of rushes with pass attempts 80% over 15 yards downfield. Oh and taking a sack by a QB would be a sin. "Do not pray for easy lives. Defensive coordinators expect us to run, we are known for our physicality in the run game. When you throw the deep ball and connect, defenses can't keep 8 in the box. I agree that there should be a healthy balance. I love the 80% over 15 yards downfield, that opens up the underneath game. Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. With Maxwell I wouldn't underestimate his ability to improve with another year under his belt either. This isn't the RB position where you can figure out if a guy has it or doesn't his first fall camp. Saying this I'm glad we brought in a JUCO QB something we've not done in a while and should have done 2 years ago quite frankly over putting faith in Sprague/Windham utility guys this past year.
