Frank Solich has done a great deal of good for the Bobcat football program. Unfortunately, the lack of at least one MACC will tarnish his tenure while the coach at Ohio. If he is unable to recruit enough top talent, and put together a conference winning team, those wins against an NCAA penalized Penn State team and badly coached Dave Wannstedt Pitt team won't matter.

Exactly.

Winning the MAC Championship is nice but what will resonate for this program, outside the MAC is beating a top school and being in the top 25.

What sounds better to recruits...

We won the MAC Championship last year

or

We were a top 25 team last year and beat Tennessee @ Tennessee.

**EDIT**
I'm actually surprised by the results of the poll.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it's next-to-impossible these days for a MAC team to finish the season a Top 25 team WITHOUT winning the MACC. A Top 25 team wins the MACC.

I could be in a BA minority, but non-conference wins over Pitt, Illinois and Penn State have proven more memorable than the games in which Ohio clinched division titles.

But wait...we haven't won a MACC....so there's no comparison.

At this point, it 36-13 in favor of a MACC title. Almost 3-1. And I haven't voted.

So, those of us..uh,me...who harp on the lack of a MAC title may have a point that resonates with Bobcat faithful despite the widespread disdain here for my opinions righteous.

I want a win in the MACCG just so Monroe can finally move on to complaining about why we haven't been in the College Football Playoff.

You make a good point. Monroe's post count would dwindle dramatically as a result, leaving some of us short on either entertainment, or things to argue about within the football board. I'm not sure BA could handle such a drastic change from the norm.

Here's an interesting question. For those for who a MACC is the only thing, what do you make of the job being done by Rod Carey at NIU?

The year before he arrived:
2012: 12-2, MACC, Loss to Florida State in the Orange Bowl

His Record:
2013: 12-2, MACL, Loss to Utah State in Poinsettia Bowl
2014: 11-3, MACC, Loss to Marshall in the Boca Raton Bowl
2015: 8-6, MACL, Loss to Boise State in Poinsettia Bowl
2016: Projected 4-5th place finish in MAC West, probably not bowl eligible

He has three MAC West Championships in three years, and he does have a MAC Championship. On the other hand, each year has been worse than the preceding one.

Note: I have no particular opinion. I'm just wondering what others think.

I'd beg to differ. Yes, we may have won more games in that five year period by 1929 - 1933 yielded a higher winning percentage.

Rod Carey has won 3 MAC division titles and 1 MACC in 4 years. I'm of the opinion a successful coach can afford a bogey year or 2. Program image is very important. Carey has stepped up scheduling, pushed the creative uniforms. The AD released a planned upgrade of Huskie Stadium to 35,000 seats. The type of recruiting that a coach is doing. Younger coaches have an edge image wise for having new and innovative schemes.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

I wonder, how often is Huskie Stdium filled to capacity? I just wonder about the need for that in the same way I wonder about it for Peden.

Phil Steele shows attendance for each team's home and away games for the previous season. Here are home attendance figures for NIU in 2015:

15,455
17,465
13,505
17,245
10,194 - Western Michigan
9,755 - Ohio

NIU is a perfect case point that winning more doesn't automatically increase attendance. I believe their attendance peaked about 2004 under Novak. They have tried a lot of things, too, like the field design thing, and the announe-the-schedule thing, new uniforms, etc, but attendance isn't there.

+1

When comparing across the decades, percentage is the only thing that makes a lick of sense.

That's pretty weak. The 13,505 was for Ball State on a Saturday in mid October right in peak football season. Some of the MAC schools draw nice for the opener under the lights then tail off. NIU isn't doing that even. It shouldn't be hard to fill it when most of the alumni are 30 minutes away in Chicago.

The first week was disappointing, but the last two weeks they have played very well. This can be a very good team. Now they just have to win one game at a time.

These details were not on my radar. My opinion is that outside our BA.com bubble and perhaps some groupies from Nebraska, your average fan who follow/support their favorite team doesn't really care. Their perception is that Ohio Bobcat football is generally better off today than where it was in 2005.

Agreed.

As far as Rod Carey's concerned, I have to figure he's on the hot seat. With the pedigree NIU has plus the move they just tried to make to move up to the Big 12, I doubt they will tolerate a step back.

Fairly successful. Win a MAC title in your 2nd year, and make it just about every other season. They struggled with QB injuries as we saw towards the end of last season. 2016 seems to be the anomaly here, it's weird to see them at 0-3.

If a MACC is not GOAL#1 with the coaches and players at OHIO every year then there is something seriously wrong about what is most important for the program.
