Sounds like we may have a smaller than expected recruiting class then, if some of these new additions will be on scholarship this year or next.

I may be wrong about this, but when I pull up the roster on the website, it shows stats and comments on each player from 2014... really? You are telling me that no one has put together any individual comments or stats from the 2015 season ? It seems that last year, these things had been updated at least by May or June. Am I expecting too much ?

Perhaps. Prior to last year it seems that they never even got an updated roster out until the fall camp, and updating heights and weights on the roster was rarely done. Now they get new names up quickly, and they do update weights spring and fall most of the time.

You would think they would be by now since we're a month out from the season starting.

I know when I was on campus this was a project for spring interns in the SID office to update the football player bios from the prior season. Could be they're just waiting for kids to get back on campus and need fall interns to do it. I find it hard to believe that there is nobody there in the summer willing to update it, but it's a possibility.

According to Arkley's blog post today, he is a scholarship player. Had offers from BYU, San Diego St. and Hawaii.

Pretty strong addition at important position. Nice.

I've seen crazier things happen.

The 2015 updates would have been done for the Media Guide. Someone just needs to update the website.

Arkley reported today that Sprague, Windham and Maxwell have shared first-team reps so far. Maxwell connected on a couple of big plays. I wonder how much of a shot he's got at starting.

If you listen to Isphording's media day interview, he tries to contain his praise of Maxwell--but it is very apparent. I think he has a better shot at starting than originally expected.

Go with the youth and let the experience back him up! (that is of course if it is a dead heat or in Maxwell's favor from the results of camp)

What about the "easy pick" Moore had of a Maxwell pass? From the clips I have seen they all are working deep a lot and I have seen several nice long completions from each. Was it Arkley who said earlier that Windham has the strongest arm of the group. Sprague's experience, 21 games, is huge. Some practice completions to seasoned receivers vs Ohio's unseasoned DBs do not, to me, a starter make.

For once I actually agree with you here. I'm taking everything I read about Ohio's QBs this fall with a grain of salt. They're throwing against an almost untested secondary.

I don't worry about who the starter is against Texas State or even Kansas. We are going to run the ball 100 times each of those games and gain 800 yards. What I would worry about is who quarterbacks against a Tennessee team slated for a top 10 finish this year. Do you start the youngster and let him take his lickins or go with the experienced guy? Windham has never impressed me. He is third string at best.

Some of Arkley's comment from the scrimmage.

"Greg Windham was terrific. He threw the ball in rhythm, accurately and with pace. It was one of the best ‘games’ I’ve seen him have in an Ohio uniform. His 18-yard TD throw to Belack, on a timing throw to the corner, was perfect."

"Windham was the best of the four quarterbacks. He completed 9 of 13 passes for 152 yards and three touchdowns. He didn’t have a turnover, and was not sacked."

If Elijah Ball is as good as he seems this may be one of the best receiving corps we've had in awhile. Even without him playing as well as he is we still have a great group of guys returning.

Yes. and it's worth pointing out that Russ and Rob also raved about Windham's performance in the scrimmage.

I'm not worried if Windham wins the starting job. I'm not worried if Sprague does, either. Maxwell seems to have some serious potential, but is just a Freshman, and will likely make a few more errors. Still, I'm not concerned if he wins the job, either. I have no opinion, positive or negative on Duckworth, but it's worth noting that he was 2-2 in the scrimmage.

Windham has not had the greatest past, if he earns it, let's go. If someone trashed him, they didn't do it without reason. He has not been anything to shout home about. Let's hope his is a late bloomer. The biggest play he ever made for us came on a screen pass after he dropped a perfect snap. Let's not crown him yet, and bash each other. Let's hope he does well.

So allen, there are reasons for fans to trash players? I have found it possible to have honest discussions about players and games without trashing players. We want our players to play at a high level, is it too much for fans to find the high ground too?

Windham has always had talent. To me, he seemed to me to be held back a little bit by his overall understanding of the offense, and that was clearly hurt by his year off from football in 2013. His game against BG in 2014 he looked really good because BG was sitting back in defense, and let him wing it, and his talent showed. In 2015 he played in more competitive situations, and struggled at times, but in the end, he played a pretty decent game in a critical situation, against NIU. Now as a fifth year senior, if he blossoms into a really good player, I won't be surprised in the least. I've seen fifth year seniors suddenly became great QBs before.

I know there are some that are uncomfortable with Sprague, particularly because of how he passed against App St, but remember, he was hurt, and had shoulder surgery after that game. Even with the hurt shoulder, his pass efficiency was excellent last year. If he's the guy, I'm also comfortable with that.

Longer term, I think Maxwell will be the guy. Could he rise to the top immediately? Perhaps, but experience is also important. In the end I'm comfortable that Ohio has 3 quarterbacks who can get it done. As I have said before, QB is not a position that concerns me, and as fall camp has progressed, I feel that way even more.

I have not trashed him, I was unenthusiastic about him starting. We need to be honest sometimes. I am so happy he is performing, I just want to win. LC, I think the Freshmen are going to come in next year and be difference makers. I think we will have our first NFL bound QB in decades. Maxwell needs to get to 60-65%, less than 50% will not do. That has been Windham's problem, he definitely has the arm talent. Maybe he has got rid of the itters and is ready to ball. Let's go Cats.

you are right, I should not promote it. I take it back with all sincerity. All of these guys probably give it all they have.

Some of Arkley's comments about practice 8/16/16.

"Windham got the first crack and was sharp on his initial possession as he four straight passes — three to Jordan Reid — to get the ball inside the 30. Ohio ‘ran’ the ball twice to kill clock and set up the kick, and redshirt freshman Louie Zervos converted a 40-yard field goal to win the drill."

"Windham engineered a touchdown drive on his second possession. He found Cameron Odom open for an 11-yard gain on an in route, and on third-and-10 from the 24 Windham dropped in a touchdown pass to Belack deep in the right corner."
