Having local vendors down at the stadium on game days I think would draw more people down to the stadium and make for a festive atmosphere. Oregon added food trucks last year to give stadium fans more options. How would you be able to pull up food tucks to Peden given the layout? A better way to do it is if they blocked of Richland from the intersection back to entrance of the OU Medical school and had the trucks park in there. That would also make it safer for fans parking at the Convo to get over to Peden Stadium with that road blocked off.

The minds writing this idea off are exactly the types of minds that have led us to the best soft pretzels in college football.

I'd like to see Ohio go a step further than food trucks in the tailgating area, and downright make food trucks our food vendors in Peden.

A STEP FURTHER.

Outsource beer vending to Jackie O's. I'm sure they are down to buy a handful of beer trucks.

I've seen crazier things happen.

I like this idea, but put the food trucks on Oxbow. You avoid blocking Richland and you get more foot traffic from Baker. The 110 warms up right there next to the Aquatic Center, so you'll get tailgate entertainment too.

Well there appears to be an entrepreneurial opportunity here, some of you who think this is a good idea ought to jump all over it. Before you commit though, I'd check out what your fees and permits from the City and the University will be.

Nobody is dismissing this idea out of hand. There are however logistical considerations. Even Portland, the capital of food trucks, has rules and regulations.

This has taken off in Cincinnati the last 3-4 years along with the boom of breweries. I have tried several of the trucks and the food here is outstanding.

Its hard for me to envision the AD embracing this idea when the moves around Peden and Tailgreat park have been to consolidate the Bobcat Club through the use of Tower Club perks (alcohol), the Hospitality area (alcohol and food), the student party in punch card park(food) and the parking assignments (proximity).

In fact, it would seem like a good fit for the Uptown merchants to draw people there on game day. Certainly, BW3s, Jackie O's, etc. would have an opinion about that but, as they say, a rising tide lifts all boats.

The AD has essentially already brought in "food trucks" for this exact purpose.

Kisers locally as well Chipotle, Dominos and McDonalds along with more I'm not recalling off the top of my head. This has been done in both the student park for football and outside the Convo in the tents they sometimes put up.

Some of these were just tents and not trucks, but same thing. Outside vendors setting up a temp/mobile food offering.

If the AD can pull that together, no reason they can't expand that offering.

This is actually very appropriate for Athens, since the McBee Company was the first American company to use the Hollerith card. Unfortunately, no one seems interested in putting up a small little historical marker mentioning this fact. One reason, apparently, is that an historical marker would detract from the significance of the art object, since it would take the focus off Maya Lin's artwork, which was supposed to signify personal remembrances of her childhood in Athens rather than the general history of Athens. To me this is artsy-crafty gibberish.

My problem with "Punch Card Park" is that you really have no idea what it is,unless you have an aerial view.
At ground level it likes like a lawn with a bunch of divots.

I know I'm Johnny-Come-Lately on this topic, but here's my $0.02 on it.

Firstly, I'd love an upgrade in the food at Peden. It's hard to imagine people working so hard to provide a mediocre (at best) product, but somehow it happens with regularity. I don't know what the issue is, but there's clearly some sort of logistics problem.

Other than the weeknight games, Peden is pretty well packed. We're not hurting for attendance.

Per this page, we averaged 20,515 home attendance per game in 2015. http://www.minerrush.com/2015/4/7/8148419/group-of-five-a...

Peden holds 24,000 (officially) for a utilization rate of 85% of capacity. That's pretty solid.

Additionally, consider that Athens county is only 65,000 people. I know we draw from far and wide, but I'd bet most of the folks in Peden live in Athens county.

If we assume there are 21,000 families in Athens, again, it looks like we're doing pretty well.

I think the core issues around attendance are more related to geography.

Ohio football is dwarfed in the commercial marketplace and media landscape by Ohio State, WVU, and Marshall.

Given that it's unlikely those schools will go away, and also given that media attention is driven by consumer product sales, it's a situation that's unlikely to change.

So, while I love the idea of *adding* food trucks somewhere near the Convo, and getting some yummier food choices, I also know that these trucks are ill equipped to feeding 500 people at the same time.

I may have just answered my question about the logistics problem that seems to dog concessions in Peden.

Lots of reasons why this isn't done:

1. They would have to pay to play or give some cut to the University.
2. Many of these food trucks may be a conflict with sponsors.
3. Space: Parking is at a premium as well as other space for sponsors and events.
4. Free Food: There is already tons of free food on game day already, so demand might be less than you would think.
5. Tailgating: For the fans that are tailgating, I don't see them going to buy food.

This isn't to say it couldn't be done, but I'm sure the resources could be used much better.
