I've been scanning some family photos recently, and I came upon this gem. The woman pictured is my mother, who was perhaps taking a few graduate classes in music or art history. You'll note that only two of the activities are punched. She was not that much of a sports fan, but she did tell me about attending Minnesota games as an undergraduate, probably just to eye out the boys. She didn't say that, but that's my guess. The next year after this ticket was issued, my father joined the U.S Navy; at that point they relocated to various points as dictated by BUPERS (Bureau of Naval Personnel). I came along in 1944, but my mother, not trusting the Navy doctors, went home to Minnesota for my birth. Dad returned to Ohio University after the war for one semester, then taught at the Naval Postgraduate School in Annapolis until 1950, when President Baker personally recruited him back to Ohio's first and finest! Carl, I think there's a good possibility that Vickie McFadden in Alumni Relations would like to have your mom's ticket - with the background info you've provided on her - for the alumni lounge in Mem Aud. I say that because Vickie loves items that are more interesting than the souvenir stuff found in Follett's or College Book. She gladly accepted two items that I offered: * a commemorative 7-Up bottle that pays tribute to OU's first 170 years on the front and shows a silhouette of Cutler Hall on the rear. (I had received it years ago from one of my interns who found it in a flea market in Chicago.) * the Ohio marching band's first 33 rpm album, recorded in 1966. Jacket and record in terrific condition. (I had received it from my youngest sister who found it in a flea market in Amish country. The gym at that time was so small that I'm guessing the demand for student seats was greater than the supply so you could only go to every other game. The gym at that time was in Bentley Hall, it was called Men's Gyn. Women's Gym was located in part what is now the footprint of Alden Library. It contained the only indoor pool on campus, or in town. It has the same rounded logo as featured on the Convo floor of the Walter Luckett SI cover image on one side, and an illustration of a punter I believe on the opposite side, with "1968 Tangerine Bowl" to go with it. I have no idea if that is more rare or if there are lots of them still around in others personal collections.
