We're all feeling good right now after a big win over the dominant program for the last half a decade. What's it gonna take for next year to be THE year?

#1. QB - More questions than answers right now. Three guys have seen significant time this season. Vick graduates, and it's assumed Sprague will take the lead next year. Can he get it done? Will Windham challenge him for that starter spot? The coaches seem to like being able to rotate two guys, and with the injuries this year it helped.

#2. Secondary. Oh man, this has me worried more than anything next year. Based on playing time this year, I'm guessing the starters at corner will be Provitt and....Brunson? Safety shouldn't be as big of a concern, but is still a problem area losing Carpenter and Macer.

#3. Special teams. We'll be getting a new kicker and new punter, together with a new #1 kick returner (Daz graduating). The specialists have been shaky since the Weller/Hershey era, but maybe we just got spoiled.

#4. Health. Four straight years now of unusually high numbers of injuries would seem to indicate that maybe they're not quite so unusual. What happened between 2011 and 2012 that caused the change?

The fate of next season resides on this off season. Dino Babers and Matt Campbell could move to another conference. The MAC could draw up a schedule that has Ohio play 2 MAC West schools at home and EMU on the road. With the amount of quality backs in the program there is a reasonable chance at a championship next year. Don't forget this year at 8-4 is turning out decent. Last year was 6-6 and the year before 7-6, .500 or just slightly above. At worst Ohio is going to finish 2015 8-5 with a possible 9-4 so its a comeback season.

I have said that the key is the huge class that is now Sophomores. That class is bigger and better than any prior class under Solich, and includes decent players at every position except QB. Supplemented with players from classes on either side, those players are going to win a lot of games. 2016 should be better than 2015, and 2017 should be Frank's best team, if Frank is still around. If Frank retires, it will be a heck of a start for the next coach. (Of course, some thought Knorr would have a heck of a good first year, too, so you never know.)

Grobe ran the option at Ohio because Ohio wasn't attracting players. The idea was he could throw defenders off balance with smaller agile players. There was a total of 1 or 2 scholarship WR on the team. Knorr's tenure was transitioning away from the option with upgraded recruiting and had growing pains. Scott Mayle was a track guy who was converted into a WR. Knorrs offense could only risk a pass when Scottie is 100% open. Solich doesn't have his deepest ever WR unit this season but several can make plays in traffic. The talent level of the lineman is a night and day difference from Knorr's time.

Conner Krizancic will get a shot at Quarterback. Dude transferred from Minny for a reason. He says he wants to play QB for us. I don't doubt that he was told he'd have a fair shake at it. Don't assume Sprague and Windham are the only 2.

Provitt will be a stud. Looking forward to three more years. And don't discount the Motley twins coming in.

Special Teams will be fine. Zervos was an Under Armour All-American and Papi will be healthy and ready to tear up in the return game. Could also see Irons.

One of OUr strengths this year is obviously depth:

3rd string QB beats NIU.

4th string RB puts up good 2nd quarter numbers vs. Ball.

OL and LBer have injured players every week.

In the past after OUr first team we took a step down in experience and talent. Next year will be less in a few areas but also even deeper in some. 5 QBs at Ohio...all who could play is insane. If you count Papi as an RB and Include Hardy you have 5 RBs as well with 4th stringer Irons as maybe the best. We will miss guys like Purdum at DL and Lucas-
Powell-McQueen at OL...but again depth is there. Moore looked excellent at LBer last night and he
should help that position stay strong.

My only concern is DB....hopefully some of the redshirt Freshmen types step up and newcomers like the Motley twins and the JUCO CB are the real deal.

But that's next year.

Congrats to the players and coaches. Weird but decent year.

Where shall we bowl. Sounds like an excellent recruiting tool as was the last 2
TV victories.

QB, QB, QB, QB, QB, QB, QB is the question and answer to next year. If Ohio can't settle on a trigger man, all of these recruits who are ready to go won't matter.

I think Offensive line is a big question as well. Offensive skill players and the front seven on defensive are going to be good.

For me the determinate factor in whether Ohio will be successful next year or not will be health. Ohio's had crippling injuries for at least three years now. I would have thought the law of averages would've been working in Ohio's favor by now but it doesn't seem to be. If Ohio can run the table next year and avoid the injury bug it will contend for a MACC. Question is, can Ohio avoid the injury bug?

Yes, McQueen, Lucas and Powell have been great. However, Lowery has been spelling McQueen these past two seasons, Pruehs is a bigger Powell and Gibbons, McCray, Anderson, Cooper, Pleasants, Alcorn, Grimes etc. should be able to allow the coaches to red-shirt the five committed OL who seem very good. #34 & #95 on defense will be tough to cover though there seems depth there too. Note. Just checked, #34 has 11 ttl, Aloese 10 ttl, Porter 13 ttl, Sayles will return too with 25 ttl. DL will be fine. These numbers do not seem high, but, they are good given the role they are asked to play.

Next year we should have BG, Buff and Akron at home, so only one home game vs the West. I suspect we'll get either EMU or Toledo at home, with the other one plus BSU on the road. OOC we're at Kansas (0-11) and Tenn (7-4), with Texas St (3-7) and a 1AA at home (http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa/mid-amer/ohio-bobcats.php ). 3-1 OOC is very likely, which means we should get at least 8 wins next year.

I don't know what happened during JD's recovery period but I have been impressed with his arm strength. I know he can run. I do agree the Minny transfer will get a shot.

So Sprague & Windham will be seniors, Krizancic will hopefully get a shot, but no talk about Duckworth. At the beginning of the year, I thought he might see some playing time. What's the consensus among the group on his chances next year?

There. was some speculation that Duckworth was going to be moved to another position for next year.
