Just some incredible stats and streaks broken from the game:

- Held NIU to 73 rushing yards. They were averaging 226 (17th in the country, 1st in the MAC).

- NIU had won 26 of its last 27 MAC games at Huskie Stadium since 2009.

- NIU has won 17 straight regular season games over MAC East Division opponents and 22 of 23 since the 2008 season. NIU’s last regular season loss to a MAC East foe was on Nov. 21, 2009 when the Huskies fell to Ohio, 38-31.

- Since its 65-30 win over Toledo on Nov.9, 2010, the NIU football team is 22-0 in regular season games played in November. The last Huskie loss in the month of November was a 45-31 loss at Central Michigan Nov. 27, 2009.

- The Huskies had won 35 of their last 36 games at Huskie Stadium, dating back to a 38-3 victory over Western Michigan on Oct. 3, 2009. NIU’s only loss during that stretch was a 34-17 setback to Central Michigan last season.

The latest would be the Bahamas Bowl, on Dec. 24. Christmas in the tropics, anyone?

Rest of the line-up:
Camellia - Dec. 19
Tater - Dec. 22
Boca - Dec. 22
GoDaddy - Dec. 23
Poinsettia - Dec. 23

The Quick Lane will be Dec. 28, which could definitely open up to a MAC team, but would probably go to one of the directional Michigans.

We also tonight kept open the possibility that Toledo gets the access bowl slot. They're back in the playoff rankings, with only Navy ahead of them (albeit well ahead). Navy does still have to play Houston, though, and if they lose that they would be out of the running for the conference championship.

I'm in the corner with bshot44 "eating my words." I'll happily eat crow and celebrate a win that I thought would slip out of our grasp. Once I saw NIU drive down the field and how inept our offense appeared without JD, I'd have bet the ranch on a 2H collapse. Kudos to OHIO finding a way!

I guess it's pretty clear now why Frank insisted that AJ wear his number, 45.

It was mentioned in an article this past week that AJ was focusing his practice time as a LB because of all the injuries at that position. When Poling got healthy enough to play, AJ went back to RB. Shows AJ's heart and commitment.

I was actually glad to see the throwback play, although I really didn't like the outcome. I think that Ohio was using everything tonight to win. Vick should be ready for the bowl game, and I hope JD will too.

Defense came up HUGE tonight. They had NIU off balance all night. Great win! I think this makes a statement for next season.

With the first quarter TD tonight, we scored at least one TD in the first quarter of every game this season. Not sure we've ever done that.

Was the victory over BSU a break-out game for Sprague or an aberration, that is the question! Steady improvement game over game or a jagged upward trending line?

Now facing a top opponent, some areas that were exploited last week will be taken away Tuesday; can he adapt and take what the defense offers?

Does Sprague have this type of comfort with the OHIO offense, this type of vision? Taken from USA Today article on 11/17 in a piece about BG's Matt Johnson, titled, "Johnson Isn't Just Flinging It", here is an exert. "Johnson audibles and adjusts. He changed the Falcons blocking package three times on a single play against OHIO on Nov. 4, responding in kind to the Bobcats' defensive shifts--and then threw a touchdown pass." I have the paper but no link, the article gives insight into how in sync the coach, the QB and the receivers happen to be to run what Babers calls, "Speed Chess", his offense.

GO OHIO!

Uh, you can call me repetitive, but this is just more evidence that we are facing a deficit at the coaching level. We're not even in BG's league. It shows in their approach above and it showed in the scores against them the last years. They're playing modern football and we're playing predictable, arch-conservative, 1970's ball.

Thinking it will change next year with the same staff in place is quite wishful.

Think my repetitiveness is a problem? A better view may be how we keep repeating the same lousy ball.

Well, some see that things are changing. 2014 after 11 games Ohio had scored 222 total points, 2015 after 11 games Ohio has 303. Do a roll call of the positions and ask yourself which you expect will be better, the same or worse. When I do it the only drop off I expect will be at corner & safety and these for only a few games until very good athletes gain experience.

Monroe, that the BG QB needed to change his protection three times does mean that Ohio is playing in BG's league. Just that BG's QB is in a league of his own, but, we all knew that.

Bcat2, optimism is nice. It's good.

Failure to comprehend reality isn't.

Standing by my view that some of us see things are changing. Since Buffalo last year 11 games in evidence of respectable play. Below average coach and lousy play indeed. Time to see the light Monroe.

Man, you are one angry dude.

It was a helluva win tonight. I said it was best MAC win of Solich era. But this is just one win.

I'm not ready to say the program is flying high after one big win.

Just like I wasn't going to say the program was bottoming out after 52-27 loss to Ball in 2012.

I made my comments about program struggling after a four year sample of losses to upper tier MAC teams.

NIU doesn't suddenly erase last four years, but it's a helluva starting point to turn things around and hopefully a springboard into making Ohio MACC contenders again

I was just on a couple of message boards for NIU football and I believe I may have solved Alan and Monroe's issues with Bobcat football. They seem to want Coach Solich and AJ gone and replaced.

NIU fans have nothing but praise for Coach Solich and for AJ as a running back. They would love to have both of them on their team next season.

Maybe Allen and Monroe could talk to the AD and get a trade going....;)

Geez....I think you clowns get more enjoyment out of proving your point on a message board than the actual win.

Congrats on YOUR victory.....MESSAGE BOARD WINNERS!

C'mon.....

I've been critical of this team and program like many others....so what. I don't have a right to express my opinion just like you guys.

Just because it's not 100% always pro-Frank or pro-everything is awesome.

Did I admit I was wrong about this NIU game? Uh.....yes.

Have I celebrated this win as much as any other Bobcat fan? Uh....yes.

Will I continue to support this team whether Frank Solich or Frank Costanza is coaching it? Uh....yes.

Will I continue to be critical when I feel like it? Uh....yes.

Isn't that what a message board is?

This isn't a freakin' pep rally.....it's a message board for people to share their opinions.....good and bad.

Why some feel the need to beat their chest and crucify folks for having a different opinion is laughable.

If you guys think last night validates that Ohio football program is absolutely great.....good for you.

While I'll celebrate the win....and be excited for an 8-4 finish in an unexpected fashion.....I'll also put everything into perspective.

I still think this program has some hills to climb to get back to what we were 4-5 years ago......that being a consistent MAC East Division contender....and playing for MAC titles.

But for now, I'll enjoy 26-21....and 8-4.....and the upcoming bowl game.

You guys can enjoy your "STFUs" and chest thumpings.

Man....you are dead on.

I was 100% wrong on Sprague.

What he did vs. Ball St and what he showed pre-injury vs NIU was a total 180 from where he was last year and his limited playing time earlier in the year.

If what we got in that small sample size the last two weeks is what we'd get for a full season next year...sign me up.

I obviously underestimated him. I really didn't think he had it in him to play that kind of football.

Good for him. I was truly surprised to see him play like that.

...

There is nothing to be gained from extending this argument. For those that thought the team could do this, the team spoke for us. There is nothing we can add to what they did. For those that doubted the team, the true fans have already expressed that they were wrong, and that the team did play well. It's time to move on.

For me, I've said for a long time that 2014 was a normal rebuilding year, that this year would be significantly better, and that 2016-17 will be Solich's two best teams. I thought before the season that this team would be good, comparable to 2009, but not a truly great team. In the preseason prognosticator, I projected Ohio to finish 8-4, but not to make the MAC Championship game, though I thought it wasn't impossible.

I think Ohio is just about where I expected them to be - a solid team that is still improving, and which will only improve for the next two years. I think Ohio is going to be much healthier a month from now, and that a healthy Ohio team will raise some eyebrows and do some serious damage in the bowl game.

I also think that the table is set for an outstanding team next year. Yes, there are holes to fill, but there always are. QB, DB, and the left side of the offensive line are the obvious holes. I think Sprague and Windham can do a competent job at QB, and for corners we'll see Provitt, Brunson, and a new JUCO that just announced the other day, plus some others may emerge, like Howell, Fox, or the Motley brothers. I see no reason that Ohio won't be a really, really good team next year.

Furthermore, I welcome those that were skeptical of this year's team to be on board for a great next two years. I know that I tend to see things a little differently than some people. Part of it is that I'm generally an optimist, and see the bright side. The other part of it is that I'm only partly focused on the present, and very little on the past, and mostly on the future. I'm always looking at the players in the pipeline and considering what the future will bring, and I like what I see.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Go Bobcats!

Totally solid win vs. NIU.

Sprague was really good vs. Ball State and pretty good vs. NIU but I'm not sure that he's the answer yet.

Sorry, but the recent three game winning streak doesn't make up for the stupifying, crushing 3-game losing streak.

The first goal every year is MACC. Victories after MACC title hopes get absolutely demolished really don't make up for the crushing 3-game streak that we laid down when it counted.
