CMU now leading NIU 29-13 with 8:51 to go...

Buffalo having a game against BG much like Ohio's game against them last year. Buffalo is dominating the stats in things like time of possession (26 to 16), number of plays run (73 to 46), first downs (24 to 16), etc, but losing 21-9.

But some things remain the same. Miami still sucks.

Central Michigan is in position to contend in the MAC West. I checked and neither Bowling Green or Ohio have them on the schedule.

Miami's QB was 8/26 today with 3 interceptions. Ohio could use a pick 6 next week with the way the offense has struggled.

EMU is down only 1 score at the start of the fourth. A win is is extremely improbable but it would be the biggest 1a upset ever in terms of betting line.

Two quick EMU interceptions, one a pick six, and the score won't be close. It ended up 44-22, still way better than you'd expect. (Vegas line was 45.)

They are currently the top-rated G5 team. Behind them, but getting votes are Boise State, Temple, Memphis, and Navy.

If Memphis is able to beat Mississippi this week then they have the inside track.

It would be really interesting if it comes down to once-beaten American team, a once beaten Boise St. team, and an unbeaten Toledo team. The American team would have probably played the toughest schedule and Boise St. would probably be regarded as the team with the best chance to win the bowl. Toledo's schedule might not be viewed as significantly behind the others and their unbeaten record might be given the preference as long as they are not viewed as a significantly weaker team.

I'm looking for a once-beaten OHIO team that beats UT in the MACC to be making the trip. Agree, The Optimist?

I am pretty sure that Ohio needs all of the American teams to lose twice. I think they need Boise State and Western Kentucky (who plays LSU) to lose another game. The other once beaten G5 teams are Marshall, Georgia Southern, and Appalachian State. Ohio would very probably get the nod over them if they all run the table.

Keep dreaming. With a non conference schedule that consists of arguably the worst FBS team in the country in Idaho and also an FCS team it's never gonna happen.

I think the odds are so low that it is hardly worth thinking about right now. But I think that you dismiss it for incomplete reasons. Only the American teams schedules are going to look better than OUrs if we go 12-1. SOMEBODY has to go. The schedule is better than we would have guessed in August and isn't an insurmountable obstacle. The American has 4 unbeaten teams and one will probably win the conference with two losses or less. Then it would be Ohio against them. Their schedule would be better but not monstrously so. They would have to have at least two losses. With two it would be hard to predict what would happen but we would certainly be in the conversation and it wouldn't be an easy pick to make between the two. Everything that happens between now and then would matter. It would be important that Toledo shows up in the MACCG unbeaten. That would help a lot. And we would have to be more dominant in most of our wins than we were last week to have a chance to go over a twice beaten American Champ.

If Boise State runs the table from here the primary thing that would likely get them in over Ohio is the fact that they would probably just be considered to be a better team. The comparison of 12-1 records against schedules of almost identical strength would not be the reason we'd lose out.

We ran for 381 against EMU in 1997.

LSU's sauce is weak. Whonard Fournette?

I believe that's the game in which Kareem Wilson, Steve Hookfin, and Riz Buckman each ran for over 100 yards.

Actually in an Ohio win at EMU during the Grobe years the Cats gained 612 yards on the ground.

That's the game that I was remembering, because I thought that Wilson, Hookfin, and Buckman each ran for over 150, but that didn't add up to the 381 in the earlier post.

Oh, for the days when a forward pass was nearly a trick play.

LOL! Yes, I remember those days. We sometimes had to create a hole not to run through but so the 5'6" QB could see who he was throwing to. We needed bigger holes in the line for those plays than for our running plays. One year we led the nation in fewest passes attempted. One of my favorite all-time OHIO stats. ;-)

It was dynamic, crowd-pleasing.

Only lacked ability, due to lack of passing game, to come back against a short clock.
