Just heard Marshall President Stephen Kopp passed away earlier tonight. WSAZ says it was a heart attack.

Stephen and his wife attended the Richland United Methodist Church when they lived in Athens. Here's a brief note that was sent out this morning by Terri Ann Foglesong to the church email list:

"Sadly, Dr. Stephen Kopp has suddenly passed away. Stephen and Jane Kopp attended Richland UMC while Dr. Kopp was serving as Provost for O.U. I believe that Jane and Becky Ortman [the previous pastor's wife] had been college friends. They left Athens about 9 years ago for Stephen to become the President of Marshall University. Apparently, he suffered a heart attack last night, in their home, and was unable to be revived. They have two grown children who didn't live with them in Athens when Stephen and Jane lived here."

This is truly sad, and I encourage all BAers so inclined to offer up prayers for the departed and for the family.
