I do know that OHIO now has a committee of telecommunication types that is charged with working on this project with ESPN. A friend of mine told me at the game on Saturday that he was asked to form the committee and would chair it. He seemed pretty much up in the air in terms of any details. He's expecting to know more in a week or so. It seems to me unconscionable that OHIO wasn't in the first wave.

Sorry, I didn't notice there's already a thread on this subject in the basketball forum.

Okay, he goes my rant. First, if I read the article correctly, I take away at least three major concerns. Actually, I have more but will focus on these.

"That's because these three media departments ARE AT THE TOP OF THE HEAP IN THE MAC, according to ESPN." Apparently ESPN believes that either OUr media department or athletic department or both are behind NIU, CMU and/or Buffalo, and quite possibly others in the MAC as well. REALLY! Nice slam on the University in general and Scripps in particular.

Worse than that is the fact that Kent State, BGSU, Akron, Miami and Ohio all do not have a copy of the new MAC/ESPN contract and therefore I presume have not seen a copy of it. How is that possible on an apparently done deal which will directly impact us for the next 13 years????

Finally, with the new MAC/ESPN deal each school will only get $675,000 per year, again for the next 13 years???? What a joke! We collectively lock ourselves into a long-term contract under these circumstances. Why? Why do we continually give ourselves away to the least possible contract?

Get out of the MAC now! With friends like this, who needs enemies? I know that ESPN has signed contracts with individual universities who are in other leagues to broadcast that school's programs on the ESPN family of networks. One such school is Oral Roberts University who just signed an individual contract even though they are in the Summit.

Sorry guys, but if what is written in the aforementioned article is correct, we seriously dropped the ball.

If you're referring to Scripps (not Scripts), I don't think the media department is related to it. It's the same media department that brings us a grainy and choppy feed from the Convo, so the idea that it's behind some others in the league should come as no surprise.

I'm sure we'll get out of the MAC as soon as that Big 10 invite comes. We're shoo-ins for it with our giant fan base and the massive media markets we deliver. If that doesn't work, we can go independent and sign a deal with NBC just like Notre Dame, because our programs are very similar.

I'll add this to my list of reasons to leave the MAC.

We have some great and talented people who work in our media department, and have had some great ones who preceded them. However, you cannot make chicken salad out of chicken shit, and what these people have to work with is anything but state of the art equipment and less than desirable budgets. Kudos to them for still turning out quality product. And example of this is OHIO does not own it's own production truck and is unable to in-house product.

Thanks for the post Billy. It is truly sad that a University which excels with a school like Scripps is not leading the MAC with production. I realize that the media department is not Scripps, but they are both part of the same University.

I think they're looking at the TV equipment at the football and b-ball venues, not the overall quality of the media programs at the schools. Judging from what we've seen from the internet feeds from the Convo, they're probably dead-on. When they do a telecast, they want decent graphics (including play clock and game clock with the score) and replay capability. If we have either of these at the Convo, we haven't used them.
