Watched for AJ on the sideline. Noticed that he was doing a full squat while watching the game - thought this indicated that the injury wasn't real serious. Breathed easier as the BOBCATS sure don't need him to be out. Sure glad that he's a BOBCAT! I'd guess that a lot of coaches are kicking themselves for not recruiting A.J.

Vidcasters seemed to be speaking of OUellette as if he's 220 lbs. Or more. Roster says 195.

I think that they compared him to a back who goes about 230 lbs for EIU and said he's about 50 lbs heavier than Daz.

That is awesome.

The 60 yard run was sweet. Showed his speed there. The kid is a revelation.

Those two had some outstanding blocks, and Cochran was blocking downfield as well. A lot of the credit goes to AJ himself. Three EIU players could have made the tackle, but didn't because AJ blew by them:
1. The left DE/OLB on the end of the line for EIU went too deep following Sprague, and left a gaping hole when McCray blocked the DT down. If he makes the play, it's probably a 1-2 yard gain.
2. Meanwhile Pruehs was downfield to block the MLB, and wasn't able to do more than just bump him. It didn't matter because AJ just blew the MLB. If he was able to make the tackle, it was a 7 yard gain.
3. Mangen was downfield to block the safety, but never really got it done. AJ blew the safety, too. If the Safety makes the tackle, probably 12 yard gain.

I suppose you could also say that the corner who overtook AJ at the end also had a chance to make the tackle, but he chose not to even try to make a tackle, and instead tried to strip the ball, and ended up just looking silly.

Live, I thought it was a play designed to go left and Ouellette made the cutback decision on his own. Watching the replay, I'm not sure. There looks to be the seam he actually hit as though it was designed that way, but there was also a seam between guard and tackle on the left side, with Smith coming in to make a seal block if Ouellette wanted to take it outside to the left.

I guess it could be a read option, Sprague read it for the handoff left, and then Ouellette took the blocking set up for the QB to the right when the DE overcommitted in the backfield.

Does anybody else get concerned by the way he lowers his head in short yardage situations? Love his bowling ball running style, but would hate for him to get a serious neck injury.

That's a nice article, but it is poorly researched. They have the easy stuff, like game stats right, but make a couple errors:

As for being on the pre-season roster, I'm sure he was there. He wouldn't have been on the Spring roster, though, as he wasn't added until July 3. Players not on the preseason roster would not have been added until after the first game, when the roster was expanded. Clearly OUellette was one of the 105 invited to the pre-season fall camp.

I think in post-game comments OUellette said that his read told him to cut back, but when he got there, it was wide open. As I understand the zone-blocking/running scheme, how the defenders line up determines how they will be blocked, and so it therefore determines where the run ends up going. The key then becomes for the individual blockers to all execute. What does OUellette look at for his read? Sorry, I don't have any idea.

As above, I credit the long run to fine blocking by the line, and by Landon Smith, plus the fact that the defensive end went too deep (following Sprague), and on just good running by OUellette who blew by the linebacker and safety.

If it was a designed RB run the whole way, I think OUellette's read is either the MLB or left DT. The MLB's first step is to his right and Pruehs moves to get a seal on him (and misses actually, but OUellette was able to take it outside enough due to the DE over-committing that it didn't matter). Then the DT crashes inside just as OUellette hops to the right and takes off (again, wide open due to the DE).
