This is along the lines of what I was expecting to hear. What I saw and how he stayed out there and played made me think this was more minor than major. I fully expect to see him back for CMU or BG.

Did anyone observe DV with the team today? If so, how did he appear?

He had his knee wrapped, and was on crutches.

Solich said Monday that starting quarterback Derrius Vick is “doubtful” for the game Saturday at Central Michigan. Vick injured a knee in a win over Idaho on Sept. 20. “He is still week-to-week. We won’t really announce much on him,” Solich said. “He’s coming along.”

I bet we see him vs BG.

Given that the competition in camp was so close and that Frank went to JD early well before Vick was hurt, my question would be does he automagically get his job back even when he is available? If JD is performing and DV is rusty, possibly gimpy, how can you pull JD to put Vick back in?

In the absence of another bad break (no pun intended), JD looks like the guy.

Based on how they have done it in the past, Vick would automatically get his job back, but for that to happen, he'd have to be fully healthy, and I'm not sure that will happen.

Getting the job back, and keeping it, are two different things, though. For him to keep it, he'd have to play at least as well as JD was playing. Let's suppose that JD was playing well, and Vick comes in and struggles. The formality that you can't lose your job by injury would not prevent them from putting JD back in.

Hey, keep this up and the Wyndham and Duckworth advocates are gonna chime in, too. Just kidding, but it's nice to have the depth.

Let's not get crazy with this discussion anyway... I mean (and he admitted as much) JD was serviceable in helping manage a game against an inferior opponent last week. It's not like he was spectacular in any way. He made some nice plays that make me really like his potential, but he's also missing a lot of passes too (That said, I thought some of our receivers T-Rex'd on a couple balls that could have been caught - the corner route in the endzone comes to mind.)

General question here:

In the Solich era, has Ohio ever had a QB that was the defined leader of the team? A guy who commanded attention in the huddle/no huddle. The unquestioned trigger guy when Ohio was in dire need of a play?

I only ask this because it seems like most of the QBs we've had have just been guys to plug into the spot that fit the system. You could argue Tyler Tettleton was that type of guy in 2011, but then the 2nd half of 2012 and most of 2013 would make me think otherwise. T3 was a great QB in 2009, but authoritative QB who commanded attention from his peers? Austen Everson was a leader, but I'm not sure he was "the leader" of the 2006 squad.

Just an interesting thing to me. I want a guy who's gonna go in there and put some fire under his teammates and demand more.

Speaking of Duckworth...I hadn't really gotten a good look at him in person until pregame on Saturday. He is bigger than I expected.

I seem to recall that Frank has a theory (from the Bates days) that for the offense to be most effective the QB needed to complete 55% of passes or more; regardless of how well the QB is in the running game.

Currently:
Vick>61% completed QB Rating of 147 good for 4th in the MAC currently 4 TD's and 1 int. Vick averaging 7.72 yards a carry and zero TD's

Sprague just below 55% completed 108 QB Rating for 12th in the MAC and 1 TD and 2 int's. Sprague averaging 4.31 per carry along with 3 TD's.

These are the statistics; what are the intangibles that should be considered assuming both are healthy?

Wasn't Austen Everson a team leader? I thought he stood out in this way.

Yes, he was. In fact, from a conversation I once had with him and a few teammates and my view from the stands, I thought he was the best team leader we have had in the Solich era. He was not the best athlete, but he was one of the toughest who never gave up on any play. His teammates seemed to feed off his enthusiasm, and he encouraged them to do their best by his example and by his verbal encouragement.

If Vick can even walk next week, start him. Sprague was miserable today.

2-12 with 3 yards passing not good enough, you have very high standards.

I am prepared to wait until it is 100%. Big Vick fan and I hope he recovers fully before trying to return.

I hope he isn't thinking of rushing back this weekend if he's that close to getting to 100%. Is he practicing with the team this week or being held out?

Maybe I'm reading into Vick's tweet more than I should, but is he implying that he will be coming back this weekend vs BG, or is he saying he "Should be back sooner than people think" as in perhaps the next week or two after the BG game?

So "Half Ass Effort" for various situations could actually be 49% or 51% effort?

Some recent tweets:

QB Derrius Vick not dressed. But moving without crutches. Able to run a bit. Wouldn't be shocked to see him back next week, or for WMU

Right after the BG loss:

Derrius Vick @OUdvickQB
On a positive Doc gave me great news
